Ordered mine this morning, went the 64gb in the end.

I'm in Australia, I would be interested to know what other fees it is they think they are charging there, i didn't see that when i ordered!

I checked my receipt - no special statutory fee for me. Maybes its GST...

What is the 4k limitation in the aTV: the hardware (i.e. weak processor, slow network card, etc.) or the software?

What does the asterisk say?

"* An approximation. Fees may vary over time." - Which gives us no clue as to what fees they're referring to over time ...

So i gave them a call on the sales number, no clear answer, one suggestion was something along the lines of subscription fee ie netflix, but i said that cant be right since you dont need that to use the ATV.

Rightly though once you actually add the appletv to the cart it shows the correct amount of GST, so maybe its just a plain old typo.
Or maybe it's Apple Tax™ that wasn't meant to show up on that page? ;)
It's interesting that if you roughly do the math, and you add Tax in the US($149+9%? Tax=US$162.41roughly - that should be AUS$224.70.) There's a $44.30 "hike" to get it to our $269RRP. Then that $43 "statutory fee" is looking rather interesting as it's definitely not part of the GST. So what the heck is it?!

You can't really compare the prices including tax as they are at different rates, it's the tax-free prices you should be using to get an accurate comparison.

You all see the new iMore article (let me get a link) that says you can only pair ONE Siri remote with an ATV4 at a time? The remotes everyone is buying are for replacement purposes only! It appears you have to use the remote app or 3rd party remotes for multiplayer.

Here we go: http://m.imore.com/dont-buy-multipl...-you-can-use-them-multiplayer-gaming-you-cant

Apple also confirm it on the Siri Remote page.
Built specifically for the new Apple TV, the Siri Remote puts you in complete control. With Siri, simply use your voice to find what you want to watch. You can also use your finger on the Touch surface to interact with the new Apple TV. Swipe left or right. Up or down. You have all-new ways to navigate the new Apple TV quickly and easily. However, Apple TV can only connect to one remote at a time. If you wish to play multiple player games, you’ll need an iOS device or controller.

Thanks, Olly! No wonder they are $79, you aren't supposed to buy them. :)

To be fair, they are expensive but include a lot of tech. As well as traditional IR support, there are accelerometers, Bluetooth support, microphone for Siri support, glass trackpad and rechargeable battery. This also partly explains the high price of the ATV4 in the first place given one is included.

It's not even the exchange rate its profit driven, for example look at similarly priced products and compare each country...

US store ATV 64gb $199 iPod touch 16gb $199 Beats Solo2 $199.95
AU store ATV 64gb $349 iPod touch 16gb $279 Beats Solo2 $259.95

Where does the extra $80/90 come from, price gouging!

This is so disappointing. Around $279 is what I was expecting for the 64gb version.

I seem to remember someone saying they flew to the states once a yr just to buy electronics and saved money.

Lol! I remember hearing that it would have been cheaper to purchase a ticket from Aus to the US return and purchase Adobe Photoshop or CS or whatever in the states than the price of just buying it here. Australia tax!

Sorry if this has been posted, but any Aussies in the forums care to enlighten me with what this new "statutory fee" is with Apple? So not only are we getting our normal GST added, but now a new fee of some sort that's worth $43 total.

Does this price point mean that they have to give us more than 12 months warranty as per Australian consumer statutory rights? Perhaps they're charging us for that right now.

Sure but not my point. :) Since you can't use them as an added controller, they won't stock too many of them. If you could actually use them they would sell a lot more and might have a lower price point (or not, being Apple). Replacements might not be sold until you break one since you can use the iOS app or an ATV3 remote in a pinch.

Converting Australian dollars of these back to US$ would cost in US$195 for the 32GB instead of $149, and US$253 for the 64GB instead of $199.

Ordered a SteelSeries Nimbus to go with my Apple TV for the Living room. Really looking forward to getting these things in on Friday :)

$51 on a $349 item is pretty odd 10% GST! Though it is correct once in the cart page.

I did suggest to the girl on the phone was it apple tax, she didn't bite haha.

Anyone know will the Apple TV be for sale at Best Buy or Amazon on Friday ? or any release date on in store for Best Buy? thanks everyone!

exactly the problem.
It's not a problem. Apple doesn't "fail" if they don't reach 100% saturation on day one on every product release. They have never done that in the past, even with their most successful products. A lot of people who are taking a wait-and-see approach will be buying later (some won't).

Judging by the comments on this story, many people ordered Apple TV on the first day. But if everyone who was likely to buy one did so on one day, then people would point to the second day and say "look how much sales have dropped in one day (Apple is doomed!!!!!!)".

Amazon will cease selling the ATV, so I highly doubt it. Your best bet is to try an Apple Store. I don't think BB will have them (but I could be wrong).

I am an easy sell. I am just happy it has a home button on the remote now!! Haha. I hated to keep having to hit menu like 10 times to get back the the home screen. Especially when it starts lagging and you have to wait to hit the menu button for it to actually does something.

I realize it is a bit late for this, but did you know you could simply hold down the Menu button and it would go back to the home screen after a few seconds?
