I got an email from Apple yesterday saying there was a problem with my credit card and my iPad order. When I called Apple to straighten it out, the customer service guy told me that there would be a new version of iTunes released on Saturday, April 3rd. He said this version would be needed to sync with the iPad, and download iPad specific apps.

No surprise there, whenever new iPods/iPhones are released theres usually a new version of iTunes to go with it.

I wonder if we can still cancel orders since the orders are prepared for shipment, I'm too afraid to try. I can still get as far as the "reason for cancel" screen but I don't want to go any further.

Any brave souls?

Charged and status changed, 3/27

Authorization went through today, a few days after everyone else. I ordered at 6:31 am, PST on launch day. I also checked my account with Apple after noticing the hit to my bank account and noticed that the iPad order status had changed to prepared for shipment.

iPad Wifi, 64gb

Did you order the 3G or WIFI?

However there are federal and state limits on the time between payment and shipping.
Identify them, please.
They can't generally charge you for something today and then not send it for 2 months. Something that came up with the whole JooJoo preorders.
Well orders started in December, and they are going to start shipping this week, almost four months later.

They can take your money whenever they want, so long as you're informed of what you're going to get for that money. As another poster mentioned somewhere, there are various futures clubs that take your money literally years before you get a product shipped in return.

There are rules on how late a product can be when the sale included an estimated delivery date, and at what point a seller must offer a refund, but there are no laws mandating that money exchanged for goods must be completed within a certain time frame. The closest you get is the implementation in 49 states of a statute of frauds provision requiring that all sales that won't be completed within one year be memorialized with a written agreement.

A company can charge at preorder, at time of shipping, after delivery, or anywhere in between, so long as there is a clear policy or an express contract between the parties.

Well, it's official... the pending charge for my 3G iPad just fell off. Now, I'm only being charged for the accessories; case, dock, and camera connection kit.

I'm a little disappointed. I was still holding out a little hope that it would ship early. Oh well.

64GB 3G iPad charge (Temporary Authorizations) is still there but Apple's status page still says Late April for Ship date. The only thing set to ship April 3rd is the Case. Keyboard is April 15.

Update: 2010-03-30 20:30 all Temporary Authorizations are gone No charges appear on my card but available credit limit is still down for order amount.

Update: 2010-03-31 08:51 all charges are gone and Available Credit is back to normal.

My charge is still there (for my 64g 3G) anyone with a 3G got a shipment confirmation?

I called today and asked about the auth charge. I got the same story that everyone else got; mistake. My friend, who also ordered their 3G iPad on the 12th had their charge fall off too. It just depends on the bank.
