Tim Cook will tell you "Don't worry we've got a solution for you, the whine issue will be no more when you buy our Airpods Max at the low price of $550. We think you're gonna love it."
“It’s our best AirPods Max yet.”

You know, maybe they’ll add an adapter for those $700 wheels so we can just yeet it across the desk when it gets too noisy.

Not bad, not bad. This will be the best-selling accessory for the M1 Ultra Mac Studio.

Decent deal if you need a Mac Studio now. Don't worry about the noise, if it's a problem you just send it back. It's literally the same as buying "new" from Apple.

Obviously if you have access to the EDU store and can afford to wait then do that. Better yet, I would advise anyone who doesn't absolutely need a Mac Studio (especially those looking at the M1 Ultra variant,) to just wait in general. A lot of software (even Apple software) is still in the process of being properly optimized for high end Apple Silicon, we still haven't seen the Mac Pro replacement, and with the M2 we now have an idea of what the roadmap likely looks like for the next 12 months.

This is definitely one of those times where if you can afford to wait your patience is likely to be well rewarded. You don't want to buy a Mac Studio today only to have the Mac Pro of your dreams, or a MBP that does everything the Studio does, released in the fall.

Will there be a replacement for the Mac pro ? Apple's communication is not indicating that anymore.

Apple directly indicated that we should expect an Apple Silicon Mac Pro when they announced the Mac Studio in March. They have not said anything else in an official capacity to indicate that they have changed their plans. I think this is a case of people trying to read the tea leaves to (mis)interpret small things Apple has said or shown since then.

You know Refurbs are not just exclusively “returns,” right? One day….
I’ve actually always wondered about this. What else makes up the refurbed products? Because surely there’s no way that many people have returned these devices. Are they perhaps reviewer units? Retail store display models?

What else makes up these refurbed units???

Same price as the education discount for a brand new one and the wait time on those is about 7-10 days more than the refurbs currently

Any time a box is opened it can no longer be sold as new in California. Apple follows this in all states. So refurbished products are returns from all over the country. This includes machines that are replaced by AppleCare for issues. They can include any product that fails validation after production. So if there is a defect on 100 iPods in a run, they will be sold as referbished occasionally after being repaired. This was a subject in our AppleCare training way back in the day.

Refurbished deals on macbook airs and Mac mini’s appear to be the standard 15% off, so taking 10 percent off a Mac studio refurb makes it less of a deal than expected. Wonder if this might be because Apple are planning something for the upper SKU mini in due course.

Nope. Dead silent.

Agreed. My Studio is completely silent even under continuous heavy load that used to make my 2017 MacBook Pro sound like a 747 at takeoff thrust.
Yeah, that's kind of the problem. The Mac Studio has its fans always at around 1300 rpm. Despite the M1 Max also runs in a MacBook Pro 14" within a much smaller body. The Mac Studio is designed to almost never turn its fans up over those 1300 rpm. The problem is IF you are in a room that is generally quieter than ~30 dB AND have your Mac Studio on your desk in front of you AND your ears are capable of hearing the kind of sound the Mac Studio makes you will always hear it and at the moment there is no nice way around it.
And I'm not talking about the "whine", for me it was the noise that the exhaust vents make alone. I had a M1 Max and M1 Ultra at home and returned both.

Still, now that there's still no Mx Pro Mac mini I catched myself again thinking about getting a refurbished Mac Studio. Apart from the frickin noise it would be the perfect computer for me and if I mount it below my desk, put the fans to 1100 rpm with Macs Fan Control and tape a flapping kitchen towel on the back of the device the noice would be ok. But yeah. 😳

Maybe some units that didn’t initially pass production tests and were sent to an assembler for PCB rework?

I wonder how many people whining about the whine actually own a Mac Studio with the so-called whine or are just parroting what they read a few readers say.

It is the blooming all over again.
It could be, SSDgate is one good example with the M1 MacBook Air where it was blown out of proportion. The situation could also be that some people(usually younger people) are able to hear very high pitched frequencies that others cannot hear.

10% reduction in price is not enough to motivate me into getting one thats not configured exactly to the specs I would have ordered new… and it would be nice to hear reports from refurb buyers that the screaming fan issue is not present.. It would have to be spec’s out to have enough RAM, Storage Space, etc… before I would even consider it.

That you have to wait until a refurbished one comes along with the spec you like. It will happen eventually for sure.

This is actually good for anyone looking to buy and get a Mac Studio without the long wait. The M1 Ultra models when bought new won't arrive until September, whereas you can get it refurbished for $400 off and have it by next week July.
This is only $100 off. So the same as education prices you could have gotten this whole time
