1. No deal. People are never going to stop harshly judging the people on one hand who blow enormous sums on frivolities while the people on their other hand are starving and dying of preventable disease and are kept from education & stuck living in ignorance and poverty and squalor.
And almost all those people who are doing the judging could donate half of their income to charity and still live a very comfortable live compared to those starving or dying of preventable disease or are kept from education & stuck living in ignorance and poverty and squalor.

He who throws the first stone...

He was dressed in Business Casual Attire and said it was his only delivery today. He was not in a UPS truck.

Does this actually make it special when some anonymous delivery driver drops off a 17k watch that lasts less than a day.... and, other than the case, contains exactly the same mechanics as the lowest price watch they also make?

17k for a watch should get you an item of extraordinarily craftsmanship, built to last and appreciate, and not a bunch of lowest cost silicon made in a chinese sweat shop....

It's an utterly pitiful and sad state of affairs.

I'd be somewhat disappointed if I paid $15k for a watch and had to wait 2 months to get it. You'd think for that kind of money there would be a little urgency to deliver.

People are never going to stop harshly judging the people on one hand who blow enormous sums on frivolities while the people on their other hand are starving and dying of preventable disease and are kept from education & stuck living in ignorance and poverty and squalor. All the socioeconomic justifications for it you can dream up will never convince people you've got a sound ethical leg to stand on.

2. That's not a need, that's a want. Your want does not equal other people's need.

I'm not really sure what you're referring to with point number two given the fact that you shortened my original quote. Your post is confusing and I'm not sure where you stand since you refer to "people" judging and the point number two is throwing me off as you seem to be addressing me directly about something. Please clarify. Thanks!

The whole watch including the watch band should be gold or at least a gold plated band or metal band with gold trimming.

Also, does anyone know if these are made in China as well? That's a lot of gold from out of the country.

The point is that at some point excess has got to be morally wrong. ... If you're wasting huge sums of money just because you can, you're a bad person. Isn't this common sense?

Millions of people across the globe would think this about you if you are correct. Please back up your talk and refrain from purchasing smartphones or laptops in the future. You would best be served with a flip phone and a netbook. Unless, of course, you're a bad person.

What I'm conveying is that the edition is just a standard apple watch with a gold shell made by foreign peasants.

Anyone that pays 17k for that is a horrible human being.

First of all why someone of to be a horrible human being just because they bought a AW Edition? Wow! You really need to do some soul searching. And thank GOD you are not a peasant, most be nice. Well the last time I checked, some of the greatest minds, athletes, engineers etc. came from humble beginnings.

Its so sad some of the comments that I read on here. So everyone else except for China, has the ability to make something beautiful. News flash if everyone is given the same opportunity in all areas of life. Well let's say things would be different. Because all of us if given the chance and resources.

Can do anything we put out minds to, all of us have the ability to do great things yes even the Foreign peasants. Think about that for awhile, also Rolex, Movado, Tag, your finest mechanical time peices. Been around for a long time and are beautiful. And now you have the AW which I think is also beautiful.

Now saying that I think it would be fair if someone wants to spend 17k on a AW. A mean people are going to buy something that is beautiful and useful to them that's just the way it is. And it doesn't matter to them if u think they are horrible human beings for doing so. Someone would probably think negative of you for buying a Rolex or any other expensive time piece for that matter.

In the end I think people can buy what ever they want as long as they are happy with there purchase, and it doesn't make them an horrible human for doing so.

Lmao racist , China is known for the biggest counterfeit of goods. China does not have a good reputation and are affiliated with cheap products . That's why Apple doesn't put made in China on there products. Wonder why they put designed in California on there products ? It's much more appealing then seeing made in China. They put assembled in China designed in California. the only companie I know that does that. Companies don't manufacture here because they can pay people in China penny's on the dollar compared to here. Get your facts straight. Then you have huge tax rate here for business.

Rolexs hold there value.

They actually do put "Assembled in China" on their products. Followed (or preceded, I forget) by "Designed by Apple in California".

Congratulations, but...

Congratulations on your new Apple Watch Edition, but I would have waited until version 2.0 at least, for all the bugs to be worked out.

What do you have in your car collection? Any Maserati, Ferrari, Lambo, or McLaren? Please share :D If you can post some pics it'd be awesome!

Just got an email , very confuse should I let it go ?

----------

I can afford other brand such as Patek , Rolex , AP
I considering on AW edition because it's useful and beauty .I've the steel on my wrist .
Any way from this time , I don't think it's worth for $12,000 if it $6,000 I'd jump on with no blinking eyes. very confuse.

Just as long as he remembered to serve it on a silver platter.

Cough. A gold platter. Cough... A gold platter that comes free with the watch, along with a years services of a butler, both alloyed to be harder than anything on earth. The platter is programmed to vibrate and slide your best crystal glasses off the sideboard so you can maintain your excessive spending by needing to replace them every week.

Good luck with that. What's he going to do when the iPhone iOS and Apple Watch OS get updated past what it supports and is no longer compatible? It'll only be worth the gold it's made of then.

Unfortunately it's not a watch that can be collected. It won't last forever more like a quality swiss mechanical watch will with the proper care and servicing. His best bet is to sell it now at a premium where the buyer won't have to wait however many weeks to get it from Apple.

His believe is that the update and connectivity will not matter. The fact they are originals and first edition is the value. His argument is "So you can't upgrade the Apple One too. Those are worth a half million a piece." That auction market will answer and not some corporate type.

If you waste huge sums of money showing utter excess, you're a horrible person. Buying a rolex is an excess. Buying an Edition is even more of an excess. A rolex will last forever if taken care of. You could pass it on to your kids. The Edition will be obsolete in a few years. There are degrees of excess.

Yes, you can spend your money on what you want but only to a degree. At a certain point the excess becomes morally wrong. I'm not sure where that point is, but the Edition seems to certainly be over the line.

If you have so much money that you feel totally comfortable blowing it on an Edition, you need to give more to charity. Because if you have this much money, you have way way way too much freaking money!

The time–keeping mechanism and electronics inside the $399 model is exactly the same as the $16,000 model. The only difference is the golden watchband. Apple's Cook knows this, too. Why would Cook OK an idea to sell the exact same watch body, pricing higher only for a gold watchband? I'll wait for some media smart aleck to present the question for Cook to answer some day.

I'm as serious as cancer writing this next thought: me thunks Apple bigwigs want to understand the neurotic aspects inside their truly devoted fan base.

This. If there was a big difference (e.g. higher resolution screen, larger storage, larger memory, faster processor etc.) you would thing fair enough at least you're getting something more for your money. But as it stands, you're paying 15x the price for some gold. Gold isn't that expensive.

For example. Rose Gold 38mm watch. The case weighs 54 grams which is approx. 1.905 ounces. Gold price is US$1203.70 per ounce. 1203.70*1.905 = $2294. So even assuming that the entire watch without the strap was solid gold (24k), it would only be worth less than $2300. Yet this watch costs US$10,000!!!!!!!!!

Lets look at the yellow gold 42mm version. Again excluding strap.

69g = 2.4339oz. Solid 24k gold is US$1203.70 /oz. Total price = $2930!!!! Yet this watch costs $12,000!!!!!

The profit margin must be massive on these! Now the price is definitely not in anything else because the Edition is identical in every way to the SS version, bar the case material.

********...

Do you think twice when you have to spend 39$ to buy an new iPod shuffle for your fitness sesions? Nope, because 39$ is probably nothing for you. The same way feels the guy that will buy an Apple Edition watch. For a wealthy person that have a couple of rolex "to pass to his children" spending 10.000$ for some new fashion accesorry is probably not a big deal. Your criterion for "excess" is conditioned to your own position in society and your own preception of what is expensive and what is cheap. As I said, for some people to buy 200k watch is and excess, but 10.000$ is a ****ing joke.

And speaking about charity, please think about it when you purchase your next overpriced Starbucks latte or any other purchase you make throughout the day that is not absolutley necessary for your existance.
