Hey Fantasigraphic, I am waiting on an Ipone AND an Ipad. My Ipad is showing : Jun 21, 2010 11:53 AM Int'l shipment release ANCHORAGE, AK.
Apple tells me it will be delivered tomorrow, but Fedex says Wednesday. I'm on the East Coast (Boston), and it's amost 7:00 local time as I read that status. Need to take time off from work for package. Can it still make it my tommorow morning (priority package by 10:30)?

Edit - my Fedex guy just came (with something else). He said if the time is listed as 10:30 AM then it's coming priority. He also said I have to be here for it (cannot pre-sign). His son is getting one too. He thought it would come on the 24th even though my note says 23rd, which is what I think too.

according to Lord OBoogie I'm wrong about everything BUT look at your tracking status and if it says Indirect Signature Required YOU CAN sign the Pre Sign form, have a neighbor sign for or you can leave a note! To varify click on the question mark beside it!

IF it says Direct Signature then yes you'll have to be home to sign for!

You can always call customer service (1-800-463-3339) give them your tracking number and ask them what kind of signature it requires and have them explain it to you if you have any questions.

That link is included on all emails from FedEx and/or Apple. I ordered V-Moda headphones from the Apple website and I did the pre-signature print and left it on my door. Came back and FedEx left a door-hanger saying something along the lines of it being too expensive or something and a signature would be required. Needless to say, I picked it up at the FedEx location nearby. I would think an iPhone 4 would be more valuable than headphones.

I mentioned this and no one seemed to believe me. With all due respect, I think people WANT to be able to pre-sign because it's convenient. Do you really think a new iPhone is worthy of being left alone?

It says right on the tracking page for mine that you *can* presign or have a neighbor sign for it or a building manager etc.. just hover over the "?" near where it says "Indirect signature required"

I completely understand, this is exactly the reason I used the pre-signature feature on my first shipment. Don't meant to sound rude, but did you read my first post? I did everything it said: Printed, Signed, Left on door, went to work. Came back and there was a FedEx doorhanger saying a signature was required. I'm sure FedEx/Apple includes these links on all purchases and FedEx/Apple manually decides what requires a signature or not.

If a pre-signature works, cool. But just in case, I called in at work. :p

Mine that was a July 2 arrival has gone prepared for shipment.

You guys think it might arrive thursday after all?

Thanks.

Note: Indirect Signature Required is available to residential addresses only.

FedEx offers three Delivery Signature Options for shippers:

A. Indirect Signature Required. FedEx will obtain a signature in one of three ways:
1. From any person at the delivery address; or
2. From a neighbor, building manager or other person at a neighboring address; or
3. The recipient can sign a FedEx door tag authorizing release of the package
without anyone present.

B. Direct Signature Required. FedEx will obtain a signature from any person at the delivery address. If no one is at the address, FedEx will reattempt delivery.

C. Adult Signature Required. FedEx will obtain a signature from any person at least 21 years old (government-issued photo identification required) at the delivery address. If there is no eligible recipient at the delivery address, FedEx will reattempt delivery.

Here is the reason and it is related to the $500 declared value and the driver gets to also consider:

The delivery location or circumstances are unsuitable for release without signature as determined at our sole discretion.
At our sole discretion, shipments having a declared value of US$500 or greater may not be released without a signature even where the release is otherwise authorized.

I'm not signing the signature release. No way am I going to take the chance that they will leave the package sitting out...especially because so many people KNOW that the initial iPhones are arriving that day.

This release is far more well-known than we realize. A friend of mine Facebook messaged me last week to ask how I made out on the 15th. She had heard all about the "meltdown" (and she's not even an iPhone owner.)

I live in a security building and have my front door code linked to my cell phone...so even if I have to step out for a few minutes, and Fedex comes, he will press my code and I can talk to him on my cell phone and give him instructions. (That is, unless, of course, he is ALREADY inside my building delivering SEVERAL iphones to various neighbors. :D)

Thing is, I ordered V-Moda Headphones which were quite a bit less at 129.99.

I did read it, however I do not know at the time if your original order that you referenced was a direct signature or an indirect signature required order so i cannot compare it to this order. I assume from this reply that it was also labeled indirect signature required.

That being said if, for whatever reason, that order was a direct signature req order, then they did the right thing, and would not have any relevance to this order.

What time did you order? I ordered at 8:15 PM PDT with a July 2nd ship date and it still says "Not Yet Shipped"

Mine was 8:59 PM PDT and still hasn't "Prepared for shipment". Mine could be cancelled though because I accidentally ordered under my line twice. The first order should have been my wife's phone number but wasn't for some reason. The Apple rep today told me to gamble and see if I get it, and then go to AT&T to assign it to her number.

Short version: IPD guarentee by 1030am. IED guarentee by 1630 resi 1500 business

big company like apple already has the custom clearence before mass shipment.

If that's the only difference, then why are some phones being shipped IPDD and others IED? Why no consistency?

Did my theory (how many phones are being shipped to a specific area of the country; more == IPDD, less == IED) make any sense other than the customs part (even though the FedEx IPDD page specifically talks about "Lowered customs cost with consolidated clearance" for IPDD shipments)?

My wife and I bot have our tracking numbers. I love how some people said it was 1 iPhone per account (family plan)...
I'm pretty excited, I hope to sneak home during work to get it Thursday.
