Apple today began selling the 38mm Modern Buckle band on a standalone basis, marking the first time the Modern Buckle band has been available for purchase since the Apple Watch launched on April 24.

Over the course of the last several months, all other bands have become readily available, but the Modern Buckle bands in all sizes and colors has continued to say "Currently unavailable," with no prospective ship date given. The only way to get a Modern Buckle band prior to this morning was to purchase it alongside an Apple Watch.

The Modern Buckle is made from Granada leather sourced from a single small tannery in France, which may explain why it has been available in such limited quantities. The Modern Buckle also includes a unique magnetic buckle closure and the leather of the band is reinforced with Vectran weave to keep it from stretching.

All sizes and colors of the Modern Buckle band -- including Brown, Black, Soft Pink, and Midnight Blue -- are in stock. Orders placed today will deliver between August 24 and September 1, with in-store pickup being unavailable at this time.

How does this handle water / sweat? I like the band, but I wouldn't want it to blister with moisture (compared to my default rubber-ish band).

This device will need to get a damn good battery. Hopefully I'll buy into this gimmick device when the 2nd generation is released.
It's funny how people who don't own a Watch think battery life is a huge issue, but people who do own one actually praise the amazing battery life. I usually have 50% left at the end of the day after 15 hours of use. If I wanted to wear it for sleep tracking I would be able to do that as well. It charges very fast. If it's at 50% I could get it back to 100% in about a half hour.

I think Apple is ripping people off with these watchbands. I bought the sports watch and like it a lot. But I went band shopping at the Apple Store and was surprised to find the costs of additional bands.

Went searching on Amazon and purchased an awesome metal band for like $39 and a black soft band (like the white Apple Band for $49) on sale for like $12.

$249 for a band? get out of here!

Go to Amazon people.

It already has a good battery, unless you live in another parallel universe where this is not the case...
if it's not the case, providing many links from many reputable sites saying so should be really easy; come on, do it since you're so sure of yourself!

Yes yes yes to all of this and I have the 38 size. I can only surmise that most of the people making these comments don't actually own the device and so are speaking from ignorance.

That you even think those $30 metal bands (or even the sport band) are exactly the same, they're absolutely not, means you probably are not the target market for those bands since you can't appreciate the difference. As for "ripping off". Nobody forces you to buy those bands, or the watch; you realize Apple also has a very big margin on the watch? Are they ripping you off there too?

Macrumors is incorrect about one thing. The black modern buckle is available for in store pickup today in many of the apple stores in the SF Bay Area.

Edit: site once again showing pick-up for the black modern buckle in most apple stores on the SF peninsula .
