Apple Being Sued for 'Purposefully Slowing Down Older iPhone Models' [Updated]

I can't believe how they've twisted this whole situation. I call bs on blaming the batteries for slowing down devices. We all know from experience that once you hit Update your snappy performance is long gone.

Simple. dont upgrade the software.

Of course Apple could implement a "Turn of battery management" switch, then all the complainers can complain their iphones shut down instead.
[doublepost=1515838011][/doublepost]I had a iphone 3 bought the first month iphone was released in June 2009. It lasted me until Oct 2016 when the battery finally died. Basically the phone died one month after they released the OS 10 which started the battery regulations. So they are slowing Iphone 7's down after one year use because of battery life and yet my iphone 3 battery lasted 7 years. Oh and I am constantly either on the phone or an app so its not because I was not using it.

Here is the proof everyone. Now I need not upgrade my iPhone because the phone is very usable again.

If you look, you can see that he pulled up the previous test history and took screenshots. That’s why the SCREENSHOT times are within the same minute... but the test times are not.
Ahh many thanks for a plausable explanation :) guess he was quick on the draw and done it in the same 60 second period :D

Users: “why you slow our phones down?!”

Apple: “your battery can’t hold the charge necessary for some tasks. We want you to use your phone for longer.”

Users: “can you believe Apple just wants us to buy more phones?! Let’s sue!!”

How do we get on this lawsuit!?!? My girl got a call in July 2017 saying her iPhone won’t work. She got all upset and called Apple and they said it will work but some of your apps won’t work. Sure enough by Jan. 2018 most of her apps didn’t work and her phone kept freezing. So she did what they said and upgraded!

Don't think you need to get on it. Just hire a lawyer and sue apple.

Some apps not working does not sound battery related. More likely apps upgraded and did not support old hardware.

Pay a lawyer. They love money.

A call from who? How did they call her if her phone didn’t work?

Sorry, who called your girl and told her that her iPhone wouldn't work again?

CEO Tim Jobs, he "drunk dialed" a buncha iPhone users who were on iTunes that night and harasseded them last July after he departed from the Mojito Festival held in San Fran.
it is good to be the apple KING!

Her first mistake was listening to Apple. Always do a Google search and watch YouTube videos or read forums to assess the impact of what they are telling you.

Apple’s focus is revenue maximisation at any cost. The customer’s focus is to retain a device for as long as it’s usable. There is a clash in ideologies here.

There is no point suing Apple as they have a lot of clout with the courts and the government. You are just filling the lawyer’s pockets.

The same Youtube videos that can be manipulated?

Meme alert. A CEOs fiduciary responsibility is to create value for the customers and value for the shareholders. If Apple didn’t want a customer to retain a device than they would support the iPhone for two years like Android and wouldn’t be crafting iOS 12.

Right Apple doesn’t loses because of this clout.

The same Youtube videos that can be manipulated? m

Clearly the iPhone got ruined as what happened in that YouTube video happened with the phone. So next time, watch videos before making a move otherwise you are stuck with a paperweight.

You misunderstood the meaning of what I said. When I say profit at any cost it includes ruining a perfectly working device if they have to in order to induce upgrades. The “support” you are claiming is exactly what I mean and caused me to never upgrade my devices from the shipped version.

It’s a fact. Apple will always win on their home turf. They also have the best lawyers.

Apple class actions lawsuits are a dime a dozen. With one billion devices out there it’s virtually been proven, on this board at least, that two people with the same iOS release and software have different results.

I personally have not had any idevices “ruined” by an update. And YouTube videos according to “your manipulation” postulate are useless.

And if apple prevails in these lawsuits it’s done on merit, not “home turf” advantage as you call it.

It's impossible for 2 iOS devices in the same state of Wear and the same hardware and on a fresh install of he operating system to perform differently and even if it does the margin of error is negligible to even be a factor.

It's not a postulate as it was factually proven when the device got ruined which in turn proved that the videos were not manipulated.

They have the home turf advantage in US. They can bribe their way out in many countries. In Ireland, one of their executives narrowly escaped jail time conveniently. Its a waste of time to sue Apple. They have too much clout.

Not true, according to the posts on this site. You’ve been proven wrong simply by what has been said since I’ve joined a few years ago.

What? You said the benchmarks were manipulated. I say the videos were manipulated, see where this line of thinking goes? Nowhere. It’s not a discussion but a sniping session.

If you believe the courts can be bribed, you don’t know enough about our legal system. It’s not like the sopranos where judges are taking payoffs.

As far as the Ireland meme, Apple did nothing wrong. Escaping jail time has more to do with the government politics than illegal activities. And one person doesn’t orchestrate apple’s tax avoidance strategies.

Then what you are saying is all benchmarks are useless and Tomshardware and Anadtech should close down.

The question of manipulation went flying out of the window when what was reflected in that video happened on the phone. If the video had been manipulated the phone shouldn't have become a paperweight.

I can't find the link but 2 years ago in China, the Court overturned a verdict of the lower court in Apple's favour a week after Cook visited China. I don't find it a coincidence.
