I believe Apple should have open from the start about the power management (even though it is common sense) to give the consumer a choice in deciding. However, the consumer is also to blame because they keep wanting more from a phone, bigger screens, multitasking, thinner phones, faster software with greater option of features, so a greater demand on the battery wholever make the device.

So now the consumer cries for financial compensation because that's the American way of things, yet I don't believe they should get anything other than an sincere apology from Apple with the option to have their power settings switched off; permanently!

Why you may ask? it's because if Apple have to financial compensate people it should be globally and not just the USA.

The dev of CPU Dasher X put a price to the APP now that there's strong demand. I can't believe this is the only app out there that can effectively monitor and report CPU clock. As for Apple they should alert the user that the iPhone is being clocked down due to battery degradation, pure and simple.

Apple.... F U!!!!! Is making you upgrade your OS all the time. Then they say "everybody is adopting it". Lie!!!! I just got a new iPhone because... The old one was actually TOO SLOW and now in order to transfer the data from one to another I have to update the OS of my Mac? I am using Sierra and is working just fine!!!

What a great plan, either you replace the battery or buy a new phone or we punish you with iLag.

You recognize that the battery is a wear item, right?

My iPhone 7 is one year old with 92% capacity on the battery. Guess what? Throttled already.

You say it is throttled because GB4 says your CPU speed is low? I'm just curious how you are determining that it is throttled.

As I said before... I think you’ll find consumer protection groups and Government agencies will be looking into this behaviour very very very closely.... outside the US I think Apple will find itself in big trouble with regulators and be fined heavily for mis-selling and mis-leading consumers..

This time of year should be named the 12 days of pathetic excuses from Apple and Apple apologists!!

CPU Dasher said my cpu is working at 1600MHz, and my GB4 score for the multi core went down from 6040 to 4500.

Yeap this is how they get you, although you should be able to use iCloud to transfer your account and settings? You get 5GB free you know.

I haven’t had to use my Mac for ages and last year I had 4 different iPhones! Didn’t use my Mac once to transfer info?

It does beg the question about benchmarks and performance.
Apple, and reviewers love to show just how fast the latest iPhone CPU/GPU is.

But is this just for the 1st few months?

How about speed testing iPhones against other brands, with 1 or 2 year old models?

Exactly, this must mean that the fancy iPhone you have once proclaimed as the fastest in the block, will now be seriously lagging behind the competition of the same year...
It’s mis-selling an item because Apple always promote about how fast their iPhones are!
Slowing them down without telling anyone is in my view mis-selling and false advertising even.

All they needed to do was put into small print somewhere what they were doing, and they didn’t even do that!

Next year will be an interesting year to see what happens with this story...

How about designing a device with a properly sized battery to begin with? So in a nutshell, with normal degradation counted for, the battery is able to cope with processor and system demands for at least 24 months?

Or would that be too outrageous to ask for? Hint: it has to do with higher capacity.

But a higher capacity battery would be bigger. And a bigger battery would have a lower internal resistance. Thus allowing it to provide even more current. Thus allowing Apple to overclock their chip more. This overclocking of course would have to be decreased as the battery aged. And people would then complain.

Infinite regress.

Awesome! Way to miss a point!

I throw you a curveball:

Hint: it has to do with higher capacity.

And when the battery gets degraded to a point when it's unable to sustain the voltage requirements then should you at least be able to go to a "genius" and get a new battery, never mind paying for it? And not being sent away being told, that the battery is fine, while throttling takes place?

But but but but but then Ive won’t be able to make the thinnest phone evvveeerrrrr!!!!! And that’s ALL he cares about!
When it comes to batteries and Apple it’s definitely form over function.

That is why I said Apple was wrong not to say anything but this statement was lost in thread.

Exactly right, this is the key thing that’s wrong with what they have done, in a court it will be seen that Apple deliberately slowed down its devices, on purpose, for a reason, but it totally failed to inform anyone outside Apple of this...
The jury and government regulators surely can’t not see how that will lead to you buying a new iPhone believing it was too old for the newest iOS to run properly. And this is not helped by he fact Apple will refuse to change your battery even if you offer to pay for it because it passes their ‘diagnostics tests’.

As I said, they could have buried it in the small print somewhere even but they didn’t.

My iPhone 6 is slooow. I don’t consider it an old device. I’ll take whatever they give me, if anything. I can’t afford the new ridiculousness.

Apparently my iPhone 6's battery crapped-out the exact moment I installed iOS11. Performance has sucked since then.

Why people expecting 4 year old iPhones will work smooth and fast with the latest iOS? let alone expecting old battery to work like new one??

With or without Apple “treatment” this is the nature of any old devices n’ batteries. If someone would like to keep their phones for many years to come, they shouldn't update to the latest iOS version whenever they coming out and replace the battery every second year.

PS, at least Apple supporting old phones for few years unlike some Android phones...

I love how Tim Cook is ignoring this issue and merrily tweeting garbage to pretend like he's not concerned with this issue.

I can't wait for this politician/operations man to be replaced by a true tech visionary. He's killing the spirit of a company I truly love.

And to add insult to Apples injury, if you follow the Apple news you will also remember how Cook and Co have fought tooth and nail against regulations forcing them to allow third party repairs or for they themselves to be forced to repair devices like batteries...

You can see their plans here... planned obsolescence indeed. The spin off is iPhones ending up in landfill sites, what’s left of them anyway.

It is an older device, but if a new battery reinvigorates your phone? That could be all you need to get something that works. No shame in using an iPhone 6. Hell, if they replace your 6 with the SE? That is an upgrade in of it itself.

Not with the screen though.. but I’m all for older iPhones ticking along with new batteries!
I do wonder what else is Apple purposely meddling with though, like antenna power, to force you to upgrade, I mean make your battery last.. they aren’t exactly forthcoming with what they are doing...

It was in the release notes lol this was implemented less then a year ago and you guys act like you’ve been right “all these years.”

Prove it! Post a link to Apple where they stated this in their release notes... I mean an actual genuine link to Apple.

It looks like they have designed themselves into a corner and the one-trick-pony approach is now biting them back. I hope this case will get the attention it deserves and will be a wake up call to Apple to adjust their design philosophy a bit.

Yeap, they at the very very very least need to be forced by regulation to replace people’s batteries even if the people want to pay. I mean refusing to suppprt a device even when the customer wants to pay stinks of profiteering, buy a new iPhone or go away..
65% Plus of the entire corporations earnings and now you know why..

The thing is I don’t think people would have a problem if they simply told you what they were doing and let you pay for battery replacements. Or did they design the phones so poorly that they don’t want to risk their ‘genius bar’ technicians breaking iPhones when replacing batteries? That makes them rather expensive throw away 2 year life span devices..

Gah you can go on and on about this, your right though I do hope they are heavily penalised for their actions here.

Is it still under warranty. I’m curious how Apple responds to cases like these.

I would be furious if I were you.

Mine does. My iP6 works great on iOS 11.2 and my GB4 score is above the average :shrug

I think greed is partly the cause. Its no secret that iPhone sales have slowed down due to market saturation. Where are they going to find new customers? Well if they can motivate older owners to upgrade due to a OS update, then why not right?
