Mac Hd

When i got my macbook pro i noticed that the mac hd logo in the right hand corner wasn't there so i dragged it from finder and it got rid of it instead of putting it on my desktop

Anyone how i can get it back

I wanted to see ridiculous one day discounts on everything. I mean irrational, why-would-they-do-that, 40% off type of discounts. :D

So "Black Friday" is an international phenomenon now, and I thought us Americans were the only ones that had to suffer through it, :p!

To choose what types items appear on the desktop:

Click the desktop (the background area of your screen).

Choose Finder > Preferences and click General.

Remove the checkmark next to items you don’t want to see on the desktop. (or in your case check the checkmark box)

You will still see them in Finder windows.

Funny, I could get a better deal on the Macs because the academic rate is %10 off...I'll be interested to see how much the magic mouse is "marked down"

You mean I won't be able to buy the new i7 iMacs for $1,000.00? WTF Apple?

Seriously, are we actually that surprised? Maybe it's just me, but this is pretty much what I expected them to have.

Maybe this is just me being an ignorant Canadian, but aren't the biggest Black Friday deals at low-end (in terms of public perception I mean) places like Wal-Mart, Target, that shoddy electronics store around the corner, etc? I doubt places like Tiffany's or Bang & Olufsen of are giving away their products at huge discounts either.

What?!?!? You mean I can't buy those $25,000 diamond earrings for my wife at Tiffany's for $10,000 tomorrow?!?!?

Tiffany's = Grinch

/not surprised at all. Why should a successful business offer discounts when sales figures are like this.

It's extremely frustrating that I can get the new Macbook from Amazon, or Best Buy with a free $150 gift card, cheaper than I can from Apple themselves. You would think they could at least MATCH these types of deals! Not everyday, but just MAYBE on black Friday.

Actually - they need to protect their retail channels. To much discounting and retailers will be less interested in Apple; plus it makes it hard to sustain prices as people get used to discounts and simply wait until sales to buy.

Apple, with it's limited to no discounting means people won't shop around as much as they know prices will be the same; that keeps the MSRP high and margins fat.

apple is basically just covering a bit more than sales tax

the thing about apple is that it's a pain for their customer service department to adjust the price of every product bought in the last two weeks and possibly bought even after black friday, and they will not just lose margins for one day but for several weeks around that day

believe i was in the belly of the beast, and they will adjust prices beyond the two weeks if you squeak just a bit

if people threaten to return products within the two weeks, they will go into sale recovery mode and offer even more off what you already paid them in order for you to keep the product

Black Friday

You'd think with the global economy in the toilet and Apple banking serious $$$, they'd avoid being Scrooge with the their Black Friday sale.

Unfortunately there are many reasons why Apple can not cut their products deep. If they did that then all their authorized resellers would cry bloody murder forcing them to match Apple.

This way Apple keeps prices high and if Authorized resellers like Best Buy do something like that $150 GC, (Which by the way forces you back to Best Buy only to buy more :p) then they look like the heroes. This helps build Apples rep with resellers. Cause lets face it Apple needs them. Not to mention those who have bought Apple products and still waiting for them to ship would feel cheated on deeper prices as well.

Also lets not forget that all you people that are complaining are going to buy anyways. Taking a hit on margin means you have to budget differently for that hit. As a business person Black Friday is a tradition but one that can be done without. Anything that usually has deep cuts anyways are products that are old or outdated and need to be cleared. So basically you are buying last years junk that no one wants.

A superior product should never be discounted. The value already has been established.

For those in the US, Amazon will be having a "Lightning Deal" on the 13.3" MacBook Pro in about 1 hour and 50 minutes (10 am PST). Their current price is $1114.95, so the deal should be something lower than that.

MBP product page
Amazon Black Friday deals (scroll to the right in the lightning deals box to see the MBP)

Edit: a lightning deal on the 21.5" iMac also starts in a little under 8 hours (4 pm PST). iMac page.

(interestingly MacRumors seems to be adding their Amazon affiliate code to my links)

judging by the macbook pro 13.3" price $1049 lightning deal

the 4pm PST iMac base model will be $1049 (and tax free)

A minute? It was gone right when the countdown ended.... not even a second.

How many did they have? One?

you are right

weird, when the clock hit 10.00 it is already gone ...

hahaha it is a lightning deal indeed gone with in few seconds or amazon does have lots of quantity.

Apple doesn't need to discount

The stuff is already great value. Apple doesn't have to discount prices.

i am in the market for 27" iMac i5, will vote with my wallet :p based on the deal (might go with $101 off from apple and use some discount from discover card) :)

Its seems like these modest discounts are more about keeping the Black Friday tradition alive than about going after a big sales volume.

Miserable People

What is it with you guys... Apple give you a discount and you moan its not enough...

Moan moan moan.

If they had given you 50% off some would say well i wanted 60%.. blah blah blah...

This site should be macmoaners not macrumors.

I really don't care how small the discount is at the Apple store as we normally don't get those "Black Friday" offers here in Europe :) So for me everything that is minus is a plus :p
