When i got my macbook pro i noticed that the mac hd logo in the right hand corner wasn't there so i dragged it from finder and it got rid of it instead of putting it on my desktop

Anyone how i can get it back
Go to Preferences... in the Finder menu, click on the Sidebar tab, select "Hard disks" and your hard drive(s) will reappear in the Finder sidebar. Also in Finder Preferences, go to the General tab and make sure that "Hard disks" is checked under "Show these items on the desktop:". If it's already checked, try unchecking/rechecking it. If that doesn't work, try restarting. If that still doesn't work, you could try this Apple support document.

why would they discount things more that the people will still happily buy at only an 8% discount? Some people here would be horrible businesspeople.

Do I have to say that I "love" my Mac?
No, of course not, but you're not making the ridiculous claim that everyone buys Windows PC's because they love them. It's a pretty bizarre thing to say and it's not backed up by any marketing research I know of. So, my suspicion is that the OP is projecting his/her personal opinion rather than making a realistic or useful observation about PC buying habits in general. As I said, I have yet to hear anyone say that they love their Windows PC, so it would be interesting to hear it at least once.

What time did the Australian online Apple Store sale start in Australian time?

(ie: What is the predicted time of the sale start in N. America? Midnight local time? B&M opening time? Other?)

What time did the BF deals get posted on the ANZAC sites? The BF guide on Macrumors states that last year the deals were posted 35 minutes late... Is that around 12:35AM PST ?

I'm happily awaiting tomorrow's version of Black Friday. Saving a few bucks on a Time Machine would make me very happy.

Well, if "Time Machine" is what you're looking for to get a good deal on, then you're in luck. The Black Friday deal on "Time Machine" is $0 if you have Leopard or Snow Leopard on your Mac. :D

Or did you mean Time Capsule? ;)

Why can't apple pick something relative for NZ like Wiatangi Day or ANZAC day?

Hey MD, this is totally off-topic, but I picked up Stephen Kochan's Objective C book on your recommendation. I like his approach of teaching C and Obj C as a single, integrated language. I still think Hillegass' book is unbeatable as an introduction to Cocoa but the Kochan book makes a great complement.

I also picked up "C Programming, A Modern Approach" by K.N. King and I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone who wants to learn or brush up on C. It's an expensive book, but you can get a good discount from some of the Amazon stores.

Some of you guys here are getting too caught up in the "Black Friday" name and what you think it's suppose to do for the customer in terms of high discount prices. You're wrong if you think that way.

It's called Black Friday because retail stores who were in the RED all year (loss of profit) will use the day after Thanksgiving to get in the BLACK (increase in revenue and profit).
Does anyone here think that Apple is in the RED? I sure don't. They have billions in the bank and have consistently reported quarterly gains for the last few years. Apple does not need Black Friday so Apple is not the place to go shopping for a Mac.

I LOVE my Windows PC.

And I don't like OS X, at all. I only come here for iPhone/iPod stories, not Mac ones.

Thanks, but this really belongs in a PM... I went through SK's glossary etc things about once a fortnight. I'll remember the modifiers eventually. XD

"Black Friday is Racist!"

Apple may not be "giving away the store", but it definitely helps to see the discounts they are offering today.

Just curious: Why? What exactly don't you like about OSX?

I mean, it seems that Microsoft is pushing their OS to be more and more OSX-like with each renewal. I even remember reading a quote by some bigwig pro-Windows reviewer who said that Windows 7 is the most Apple-like that MS's OS's have ever been (sorry, I can't find the quote).

Gah, they only say Mac OSX because they haven touched KDE 4.3 in their life.

You may have read that quote but you overlooked the other quote where Microsoft said he was uninformed and wasn't on the design team. Mac lovers love to crow that it copies OSX but you can't make a user interface without having some similarities. They made the icons bigger because they introduced touch support.

So why are you here!?

He already told you in the post you quoted.

You'd think with the global economy in the toilet and Apple banking serious $$$, they'd avoid being Scrooge with the their Black Friday sale.

Coachingguy

agree - apple is always so stingy with prices - even with the premium charged for their products. i would expect more. but they have obviously done well with their current business model.

I'm not a "Mac lover".... I'm a Mac-user. I don't blindly defend Apple or their products to the end, I just enjoy using them.

When something is done by Company A first, and then Company B does something very similar, that's pretty much copying.

I was asking a perfectly reasonable question that only na1577 can answer because it was directed at him/her..... although now this thread has gone completely off-topic.

so jealous at those prices i just paid 2.009 $ retail for a 13 MBP here lol and yet u complain about these prices
