Let me just be clear and say I haven't compared them for myself. But if this was an issue with the iPhone 16 series, we certainly would've seen headlines about it. But something must have changed.
Something has changed, i.e., using aluminum with a cheaper anodizing method - aka as the poor man’s titanium.

Either way, it’s a bad look. I stopped by an Apple Store on launch day to check out the new phones and another customer said she was glad she didn’t get the dark blue pro with all the scratches on it. People were surprised it looked that bad. Now it could be material transfer. But why give your customers the impression that it’s that easily scratched! They should’ve done something different from the start to not make a bad first impression.

Well it looks like the MagSafe chargers at the store have a metal ring around them, which could be part of the issue. But how much of this is just the nature of wireless charging itself along with that rubberish material so many chargers use? It obviously generates a lot of heat.

This might be TMI, but mix that plus other skin oils and stuff from folks using and touching phones all day and then what happens?

I keep my phone in a case, but even my own wireless charger looks a bit “dirty” and still leaves some marks on the back of the case. Granted, a good clean wipe generally removes it, but… I’m just saying, there’s a lot of factors at play here that I don’t think folks are considering.

The in-store chargers have been doing this for years. At least Apple has commented directly on the matter. Sadly it doesn't take much effort at all now days for people to complain and find fault in every product possible. I miss the days when common sense was common and people didn't expect daily tools to stay new looking.
Then why did we not have these same threads for the 15 & 16?

Why didn’t Jerry Rig Everything talk about it with the 15 & 16?

Will you show me the links to the articles or forum posts where this happened last year or at any other point in the past with new model launches?

All you do is laugh at my posts and stick to your talking points no matter what is said. I am not wasting my time.

Yeah, I’m not into all this scratch gate hype and as someone said earlier you have to temp your expectations on a device looking brand new months and years from now if you decide to stay case-less. But people who are conscientious and put their phones in empty pockets or set it down on nonabrasive surfaces even when case-less could still have a newish looking device even long-term.

So having said that, I think I might exchange my silver for the cosmic orange before my 14 days is up. Comment if you have the orange with no regrets.

BS. Every store uses different stands/chargers. I visited like 4 or 5 and all iPhones on the display looked like crap.

Who honestly gives a flying penguin about a couple of scratches? It’s a phone, not some priceless jewel you’re going to display in a museum. Scratches are just a natural part of using it. The moment you take it out of the box and actually live your life with it, little marks are inevitable.

At the end of the day, your phone is a tool, not a trophy. It’s there to help you message people, take photos, navigate places, and keep you entertained. None of those things stop working because of a faint line on the screen or the back. And if anything, those scratches just show that the device is being used for what it was meant for.

Stressing over every tiny blemish is like buying a car and refusing to drive it because a rock might chip the paint. Or like never wearing a pair of sneakers because you don’t want the soles to get dirty. It defeats the whole point.

So yeah use your phones, enjoy them, and stop treating them like fragile little artifacts. In a few years, you’ll probably upgrade anyway, and by then those scratches you once obsessed about won’t matter at all.

I must say that the darker colors show more wear and tear than the lighter color (silver). For some reason, holding the iPhones (Pro & Pro Max) at the store felt a tad bit cheaper compared to my iPhone 16 PM.

I wonder why they don't make a phone that doesn't scratch so easily?

Oh, maybe because they have to choose a material, and there are several much higher priorities than minor scratches on the casing?
