Hmmm, last time I checked membership wasn't required to view the news on this site. I've been a visitor for years.

Anyway... The guy is still wrong. It was common knowledge that Apple were releasing the iPhone and iPad prior to the official announcement.

Before Apple products would stay the same for year. Now, people expect a revolution faster than products used to get revised.

Funny that all complainers don't create anything themselves.

Becauset hey never have and never will, they do not understand that "innovations" and discoveries of new technologies can't be put into a time frame.

They happen when they happen, by accident, methodical research, brainstorming etc.

Even if something new comes out and Apple allegedly misses the boat, remember this famous quote: (Don't remember who said it)

Apple is like somebody coming late to a party, but always leaving with the prettiest girl.

But you have to realize what you just said, its COOL, but not exactly innovating, other electronics have been doing this for years, it's evolutionary but no innovation. FYI it's still awesome though:D

I tried the non-waterproof version of it, the ZL, and it's not the piece of junk at all while being cheaper. Heck, if Samsung says no, give Sony a call. Maye they can help Apple on iPhone 6.

Google throws tons of stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

Apple, by all accounts, has tons of stuff going in their internal R&D and routinely kills projects or tables them until the technology is mature or the product fills a void in the consumer world.

Everyone keeps bringing up Google Glass -- what "need" does Google Glass fill right now, other than making people think they're Geordi LaForge from Star Trek?

Is it neat technology? Sure.

Is it useful technology? Not really. It's too expensive right now, the consumer market isn't ready for it, and there's obviously backlash to the very idea of people just wearing cameras around.

So you tell me what innovation is -- the company that puts it all out there, announces products with no idea if they'll ever make it to market or end up as vaporware, or the company that doesn't show it's cards until it's certain it has a winner on it's hands.

As a fan of both Fox News and Apple (I know, it's kind of like dividing by zero), I do have to admit it seems Fox reports a lot of negative Apple news. Such as this: http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2013/08/08/iphone-sinks-as-android-seizes-market-share/

Which we here know is crap reporting because Apple still maintains a very good share in developed (i.e. profitable) contries.

I wish I knew why Fox takes this route with Apple.

This shouldn't be a surprise.
Fox news is as conservative as it gets. Apple is a liberal company (CEO is presumably gay, founder supported Obama, in 2008 election most employees favored Obama). I'd be surprised if Fox News didn't report a lot of negative news.

Are you too young to remember the last decade? Their biggest successes all involved buying up companies and IP prior to continuing in house development.

I worked the IT industry before it was called "Information Technology". I've been around the block several times. Now retired.

Apple needs a phone with a larger screen and a phone at the $300 price point.

iPhone Nano. PLEASE. Those dragging tablets around everywhere don't need a duplicate in a smaller box (iPad + iPhone is frankly irritating), they need a "just a phone" which complements (not duplicates!) the larger counterpart. Modern dumbphones suck.

Do you mean in the field of medicine (saving lives)?

I don't see medicine come up with anything that save more lives than indoor plumbing and toilet.

I guess it all depends are people getting bored with their high end Android models and moving to iPhones, or are the getting bored with iPhones and selecting something else?

I've only ever known people do the latter

Same here, but it happened because voice calls and one-hand use becomes irreverent lately. And straight men here don't wear hipsters jeans and t-shirts with a pocket.

in the pipeline

I take exception to the comment that Apple will introduce new iPhone models. There is nothing NEW about presenting last years models in plastic with the same form factor and very tiny screen. Its "same old, same old" models.

Funny that all complainers don't create anything themselves.

"the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so." - Anton Ego, _Ratatouille_

Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking Steve Jobs to run Worldwide Operations.
Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking Dexter to not suck this final season.
Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking Breaking Bad to suck this final season.
Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking Twitter for 141 characters.
Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking Jony Ive to change the newsstand icon.
Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking OS X installation screen to print the correct estimated amount of time left.
Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking for Ocean's 14.
Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking for a bag of cookies where all cookies are intact.
Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking for Lay's to make Lay's Ketchup for USA.
Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking for NBC to do the Tonight Show right.
Asking Tim Cook to innovate is like asking that dude that's texting while crossing the street to walk faster.

Only one man there does not have the job of innovation. And that is Tim Cook. His job is CEO and he is doing a great job at it.

Then I'm a little puzzled by the comment. I'm not suggesting they didn't develop purchased IP, but they did buy up most of the initial stuff prior to continuing development in house. I can't think of anything that wasn't constructed on top of purchased IP.

Every product that exists is built off purchased or licensed ip isn't it?

I agree with the Board of Directors. There has been nothing *phenomenal* from Apple recently, at least not at the pace other smartphone and PC manufacturers have put out groundbreaking products.

Let's add minor features to the smart phones, Tablets and make them cheaper, that's innovation.

That's unfair. XBMC is way better than Apple TV ;) In fact jailbreaking the ATV and putting XBMC on it is one of the first things many customers do.
Yup, mines running it. Without it its completely useless (I don't buy my online media from iTunes, thus don't need a $99 'pass' to view iTunes content). With XBMC its actually useful, especially since it detects your TV type so you can use the TV remote to control the ATV (Works on my Samsung one, but not a Toshiba one in another room).

incredible ...

I must say that I am shocked at peoples attitude toward Apple right now...
"really Apple, you've only created 2 devices and an ecosystem which changed the world forever"... and now people dare ask "what else ya got?"
How many companies really ever create anything with the magnitude of the ipad and iphone? prior to that Apple mainly created new OS and laptops, that used to be enough to please the masses... now, if their not recreating world with changing magic, you've all given up?????
