Wow .. and they say iPhone 5C has bigger battery because of its thicker chassis.

Apparently not, the 5S still has the biggest battery of all. So really, one more reason to not get the plastic iPhone. Man up, pay $100 more and get the real deal instead .. LOL :p

I feel screwed with the iPhone 5...

Don't be, this is still a great phone, the C is a cheap version of the iPhone 5. Also, you are one of the first people to get the new design, before the s'ers and the c'ers :D.

the 5s is a gimmeck, and this comes from someone who had the 3Gs (great), 4s (good), and decided to skip the whole 5 generation to on the 'new design' cycle.

A truly revolutionary iPhone would have doubled the battery capacity, allowing all day use without worrying about needing to charge around 3pm (in my office the emails asking for charging cables for iPhones go around between 2:30 and 3:30 everyday)

Wit my 4s and getting corporate e-mails I finish the day with around 10% power, fine by me.

the Fingerprint sensor is a pointless add-on, unnecessary, will end up unused by 99% of users after the gimmick wears off (like siri) and could have been omitted in favor of reducing cost and increase sales of units, which in turn would increase revenue via apps sold through the app store

Really? Glad you don't run a company....

I have to have a password on my phone, courtesy of my company. It's a 5 digit password. It's a PITA as I have to unlock, put in the password and say OK. With the fingerprint I can simply push my finger on the home button - the one I usually hit anyway and it's unlocked.

It will get people like my wife who has none and says "I should put one on it" to use a lock password.

As long as it's set once and forget, it will be something that you set and forget
and will make you a little more secure.

I really think it's an awesome addition.

It depends if your company's password policy supports biometrics as part of what is called the "simple password". Currently neither Microsoft (I assume you are talking about Exchange ActiveSync) nor Apple have yet confirmed the answer to this question.

Also you will need your password/passcode when switching on the phone.

Not Uppercase S

On their own website (apple.com/iphone) it clearly has the lowercase "s" after the 5 in 5s. Same for the 5c. It's also in the URL for the specific page for the 5s (http://www.apple.com/iphone-5s/).

It only appears to be an uppercase letter for either phone when placed in the rounded-corner square (I have no idea what to call that type of lettering/punctuation/bracketing) marketing and advertising. Hence the confusion.

Is it "iPhone 5S" or "iPhone 5s"?

Apple writes it 5S - seems odd a website devoted to Apple makes such an obvious error. Next you'll have an article about the iTouch.

*EDIT: Although it does seem unnecessarily confusing to make the letter a lowercase s. What happens when people refer to multiples of the iPhone 5s? It will make it difficult to distinguish between if the person is referring to multiples of the iPhone 5 ("iPhone 5s") and multiples of the iPhone 5s ("iPhone 5s's")?

there goes the argument that the iPhone 5c has at least an improved battery life over the iphone 5, 5% is like nothing.

If my boss told me I would get a 5% raise, I would be ecstatic. 5% is not nothing.

Meanwhile...

Meanwhile... Actual usage burns the new batteries down 25% faster than the old iPhone 5 models...

6s?

this is great news indeed! at this rate, by the time iphone 6s arrives they may just catch up to the 4s battery life.

My bet is that since the biometrics set-up also requires a passcode, the phone will register as having a passcode established for corporate requirements whether the consumer uses the scanner vs. entering the passcode in.

I was really hoping they would say "all day" battery life.

Guess that's coming in iPhone 6.

I think it's far more likely iPhone 6 will be thinner and battery life will stay the same or drop slightly. This is Apple we are talking about here.

I don't buy that, everyone I know with an iPhone 5, myself included, has lousy battery life. Before iOS 7 I got 5 hours of usage, after iOS 7 I get about 3-4 hours. Not only that, the battery bleeds out even when its asleep. This is true of everyone I know who has an iPhone 5.

I only got 2 hr 24 min of usage yesterday and I was at 21%.

iPhone battery life depends on your reception and which services you run in the background. I use iPhone as a pocket computer foremost and value it's speed over battery life. However, 2 hours increase in lte use time while doubling processor and graphics speed is quite an achievement.

still not enough battery life, the crappy battery life in the iPhone 5 is probably why its discontinued. I won't buy another apple phone until they seriously rethink there stance on battery requirements.

wow talk about innovation!

does it have Thunderbolt now too :p

I love the people who act like every new feature is litterally the only difference between the new and older models. "New colors...wow talk about innovation!". Next aticle "New processor...wow talk about innovation!" Next article "New FP sensor...wow talk about innovation!". Next article "New OS...wow talk about innovation!" And on and on.

Maybe there is an historical reasoning as to why Apple didnt name it 5S rather the 5s.
"5S" has a Nazi undertone. I think you will definitely see a 6S though.

All iPhones have had all-day battery life for most users. A very small percentage can't make it through the day.

Additionally there are plenty of steps most anyone should be able to take to make their battery last the day if it isn't currently.
