It's very nice but is it not risky to group everything there? I mean case flooding, earthquake or simply terrorist attack... The whole Apple company will be down in one single attack...

Look at the size of that thing. Walking across campus looks like an hour long excercise. I doubt a terrorist attack could take out more than one or two departments.

Of course the Mac department is safe from attack since it's in the basement.

Too bad they can't afford to update the MBP or the MP. Or offer a headless desktop between the Mini and the Mac Pro Tube.

Apple never stated they can't afford to update a product, the interest on the money they have alone would make them one of the most profitable companies in the world. Instead their corporate ethos is to issue a new product or update when they feel it is ready according to their strategic plans. Doesn't mean they don't make mistakes, but going back to the early days of Steve Jobs, they have never been interested in playing "the spec game."

I like the idea of it but in day to day life it seems impractical, I imagine it like this:
Damn I need a HDMI cable from IT..., a half hour to get on the other side of the building...,nah dont need the cable anymore...

With a building this size, U'd think their would be those those transport tubes employees can travel on to get from one side to the other without walking...

Sit back and enjoy. the ride.

latest

(Oh,, right they haven't been invented just yet... well.. never mind)

I can just imagine Tim groaning : "You mean i have to walk that far" ? It's almost like the kind of thing, all the offices and all the stuff they "must have" is right there... You can not borrow anything from anyone else if it's more than 10 meters away... You'll never make it

It would be nice if a new movie called "Office Space 2" could come up with a fictional Tech company that has that building and all the silly stuff that happens in that work environment. In the last movie, the main character decided to get into construction so they can start the movie with him being one of the people finishing the building.

Looks like a giant, 3.5km headphone jack to me. Perhaps homage to the "antiquated"?

And perhaps God overruled the decision to embrace dongles for His own use case?

Wonder if this means the Earth still can't be waterproofed?

And protruding too. Guess Ive made the Earth just too "thinner" for this campus to be flush.

Too bad building technology can't keep up with planet "thinner" objectives.

All ;)

OfMost every company has their key corporate employees grouped together in a headquarters campus, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, etc. You can't efficiently run a company without grouping together key groups. That said, Apple wouldn't be down in one single attack, as there are no likely terrorist scenarios that would destroy the entire campus and its multiple buildings, and Apple has tens of thousands of employees in other campuses throughout the world.

It's funny you bring up Jobs, because during the Jobs era it was unheard of for Macs to go so long without an update after Motorola, IBM, or Intel released new silicon.

The dearth of Mac hardware updates has something to do with bean counters. Count on it.

Milton could work in the Mac department, once again in a dark basement with a can of bug spray.

I'm not a pro so I'm not sitting waiting for a new machine, but it strikes me that Apple have unfortunately found themselves in that proverbial location between two solid and immovable objects. The chip/interface technology that would allow the quad 8K displays everyone wants just aren't available yet so what do they do? For the iMac they were able to get around it because they could create a custom interface within the device that allows them to drive a 5K screen. If they rolled out Macs and displays with custom interfaces people would moan and whinge that they were locking them in etc... They've waited fro the other technologies to be ready and people are moaning about the lack of updates...

As for the building, it's amazing and enormous. Imagine you're based in the north quadrant and you've just walked the 20 minutes to the south quadrant for a meeting, only to discover that the meeting's been cancelled at the last minute!!!

It does not work like this. I am sure all the facilities and supplies will be spread out throw out the building. Efficiency is key.

Let's say, the whole area is decimated. Will Apple suddenly fall off the map? No.

There's data backed up elsewhere along with redundancies. There will be other people/shareholders who will decide who will replace the high ranked execs.

Curious to see if Apple gets rid of any buildings once they are settled into the new Campus. I'm sure they will keep Infinite Loop but the other buildings along De Anza and Bubb Road may be let go when their lease is up. Apple pays a lot in rent along there.
