Soundtrack to that second video is awful. This is about Apple ... Where's the Drake, Dreezey, and Taylor Swift?!?

Also, they earned the money, its their right to do what they wish with it within reasonable means. You got your end of the bargain from whatever product you bought years ago. If I sold you a glass of lemonade and I used the money from my lemonade stand to build a new home or renovate an existing home, isn't that my right?

Of course they can do whatever they want with their earnings. I just see a very clear correlation between the start of this building project and the start of Apple's "coasting phase" they appear to be in now. (All iPhone 7 news brings despair) I know they are not directly related, but there appears to have been a huge shift in the priorities of Apple. I hope I'm wrong.

That's all I'm going to write about it here, I don't want to bore you all. And good luck to you winning some sort of tour of the building.

Rumor has it that they will be doing away with the traditional "door" and "window" ports, and replacing them with a single proprietary Mega-Lightning port that will handle employees, deliveries, and light. Just not all at the same time.

"ring-shaped building"??

Excuse you please call it by its official name - the spaceship

Did Apple check Apple Maps to see how close they were to the San Andreas Fault before they decided to design a building with millions of square feet of glass:p???

During the '89 Loma Prieta 'quake, someone I knew was standing on the road on the West side of the old HP site (on with the spaceship is being built) and saw a visible ripple wave the entire road up and down (vertical S wave). Thus the spaceship is probably sitting on rubber shock absorbers.

Let me know what drone they are using for these shots. That is some impressive flight work to get Infinite Loop and the new campus in one shot.

I agree with you. They are out of focus; building spaceships, talking politics, instead of bringing outstanding products to the market. iPhone 7 will be dissapointing and sales will drop because of "Osbourne effect". Investors will move away, stock price will go downwards in Q4. They still got huge pile of cash, so they aren't forced to innovate, focus on core business and products. Reminds me of Nokia and Blackberry in their high. When they wake up, we'll see if it's too late.

Don't forget Sony.
In my younger years :) Sony was the nearest thing I can think of that was "Apple"
Upper end consumer, came out with new things, Sony often not stocked in the lower end stores.
Very much perceived as the brand to go with if you could afford the extra to buy Sony.

They got lazy, others caught Sony up, and Sony took almost decades to start to realise they were no longer what they once were and their name said it all.

Apple are the old Sony.

Note that the design of the new campus was a wholly-owned Steve Jobs design and idea. It was his baby, you really cannot blame that on Cook. And if you think that overseeing the construction of the new campus is really taking so much attention that Apple's leadership doesn't have any time or money anymore to spend on new products and software, I really cannot help you.

You are looking for explanations, even for a scapegoat, and the new campus just fits your personal timeline of disappointment. But that is all, you want to have a simple explanation, it is very human to want this. But is also within human capabilities to accept that reality is much more complex that our first instinct sometimes thinks it is.

I have a question...Does anyone know what will be underground? Curious what those tunnels will lead to. EDIT!...Just watched the video and Steve said parking. Thanks anyways.

There was no need for this new complex at all.

In a way it's just really fancy marketing. This iconic structure will be talked about and written about over and over purposely cementing the Apple brand and ethos into the minds of everyone around the world. In effect it's almost like the "great pyramid" of our time.

Right now it stands as a monument to their tremendous success. Sadly, in the distant future it might serve as an iconic reminder of their spectacular failure. Only time will tell how long they are able to maintain their market position. Tech is a very disruptive business to be in.

A lot of times big, conspicuous projects like this mark the pinnacle of success and demark the beginning of decline. The good news for the future world changers is to realize this big, elaborate, uber-luxury office building complex has had nothing to do with Apples success to date. It's more/less a trophy to their past success and a monument to the legacy of Steve Jobs.

While this seems great for Apple, I'm a bit hesitant to applaud this whole project. It seems a bit over the top and a waste of a lot of money.

I also can't help to think, "This is where my money is going when I buy Apple stuff?".

As much as I like Apple, watching them build such a monstrosity gives me pause to buy anything else from them.

Also, the biggest building in the world isn't going to change that fact that they still need to innovate. If they don't do that, the entire empire will crash and burn.

They will NOT be done by Dec 31 2016. They may not be done by dec 31 2017. The construction schedule has been unrealistic from the start and then things have gotten complicated by switching contractors mid stream.

It is a complicated building with HUGE amounts of infrastructure.

Dec 2016 doubtfull, but I have no doubt it will be finished by Dec 2017.

They' scattered in several dozens of buildings, probably costing more to rent in the long haul, so your comment is a non sequitur.

It's Jobs who drove this project since the first years of the Iphone when Apple WAS A MUCH SMALLER COMPANY.
In fact, this complex may be too small for their actual needs and they'll need to keep many external buildings around.

How on earth does this relate to not innovating? Do you think they want to fill this building with marketing people?

There's never been a "privacy fence." Those opaque fences are erected around construction sites everywhere, mainly to control dust. No longer needed now that the grading is complete.

Not just "used" at most construction sites but actually required by the city as a condition of getting a building permit. I'd call it a "containment fence" and notice they typically pile sandbags around the bottom of these fences.

at one project I'm working now we did not do that and so we have to shovel mud out of the street gutters frequently. It is just a small project with 70 feet of street frontage so the shovel is cheaper. With big jobs you typically have no option and the fence and sand bags are required along with steel grates on the driveways so dirt falls of vehicle tires as they leave the site. Also you see water trucks to keep the dust down. Most of this is by local ordinance.

I am impressed people are able to fly drones over a secure air space like Apple HQ.

"secure air space". Do you really think Apple is so special. The laws governing where you can fly a drone apply to everyone. Actually I'm pretty sure the drove pilot violated FAA regulations which require a minimum altitude and distance from any building. These distances vary but here I think 500 feet above the ground should be there minimum and it looks like he was to low. But it seems this is not well enforced.

I'd guess the structural engineers did their jobs and the glass is not rigidly attached to the frame. If you KNOW the earth is going to move then you can design the building to be flexible enough to allow movement.

This is why many times modern wood frame buildings survive large earthquakes that take down brick structures. You might think brick is stronger than wood. It is until you try and bend it. So the designers of brick building make then in sections with rubber joints, so modern brick buildings do well also.

All the foam seems strange. That is a LOT of environmentally unfriendly garbage that they are directly burying. With all the environmental checklists during product launches, and they use this directly into the ground? Maybe there's more than meets the eye?

This a gonna be a long countdown... *sigh*

Seems every Youtuber wants to be in moves based on how this guy transitions shots.

It is not environmentally unfriendly.
1. It is inert and very stable and nothing leaches out of it
2. It saves a LOT of energy over the life of the building. Otherwise Apple would have to heat and cool al the soil that is in contact with the building. This foam provides great insulation
3. It can one day be removed and recycled, ground up for use as mulch or whatever
