All,

Apple ALWAYS releases a new OS with new iPhone hardware. They ALWAYS seed this new OS to developers for a minimum of approximately 90 prior to OS being released. That new ios then gets released along with the hardware. JUNE WWDC EQUALS SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER hardware release.

This makes sense. I doubt Apple would release iOS 6 in June/July when it hasn't even been released to developers yet.

There's a first for everything I guess, but it definitely doesn't match their previous behaviour.

I hope they at least show off iOS6, that's mainly all I care about!

Does Apple seriously want to delay launching something that was being worked on when Steve Jobs was alive (iPhone 5) for another three or so months, allowing Samsung and Android to gain a small but significant chunk of market share at Apple's expense, causing iOS to potentially lose crucial momentum?

Android has no momentum. Apple has 75% of the mobile profits for a reason.

Any release prior to mid to late October, will be rushing the phone to market, one that will likely contain bugs that no one will enjoy.

I'm in no rush, especially since the elongated screen, stretched simply so they can claim a 4" size, is of little interest. The gains will be extremely marginal, only accommodating one more row of icons.

This will do nothing for the extremely cramped landscape orientation many of us use, for composing emails or other typing oriented input.

Lol all that speculation debunked in one sentence.

Ah... I see, that makes sense.

That explains the article I read yesterday, it said Samsung is closing as of the end of next month.

They cited loss of _momentum_ and zero interest, as well as no demand for their smartphones.

Not to mention a complete collapse in demand for their home appliances such as refrigerators, microwaves, dishwashers, washers and dryers, etc.

Then there's the modest line of wide screen TV's, laptops, tablets, cameras, home theater systems, DVD and Blu ray players, memory, printers, and various peripherals.

Well... you get the idea. If not for Apple buying their components Samsung would have gone out of business years ago.

Don't play the fool. It's unbecoming.

Android is a race to the bottom. Users know it. Developers know it. The industry knows it.

The android eco system is a inner city ghetto. Big population, very little money. The GS3 is nothing but a Mercedes parked in front of a crack house.

This is why android has no momentum. Big sales, little money made compared to iOS.

No, I'm with the OP here. The new iPhone is definitely coming out in June/July. No doubt about it.

It'll definitely be a buggy phone with the developers having no time with OS 6 but I think it's a go.

Good going OP. It's research and theory like this which make these forums so great. We know when the phone is coming even before Apple does.

No way the iPhone-next will release before iOS6 has been out for developers to beta test for a couple months first. I would think the earliest Apple releases the next iPhone will be August, most likely Sept/Oct. No way in June/July.

I am very interested in seeing the iOS6 preview next month, hopefully Apple radically upgrades the UI, and not just look like the app drawer is always open. A screen full of app icons is so 2007, it needs widgets and live icons or some of the better stuff from Windows Phone and Android.

Here's more fuel for the OP's cause: http://9to5mac.com/2012/05/31/hardw...-n41ap-iphone51-and-more-on-the-new-maps-app/

"We are told Apple is far along in its iOS 6 development, so an October new iPhone deadline should be relatively easy—barring any unforeseen chip, part shortages/labor outages, etc. So ‘easy’, in fact, that an earlier release is possible."

I remain skeptical, and if I had to put money down, I'd still say Fall/October, but interesting stuff, nonetheless.

This made me chuckle. I need a laugh after all this new iPhone size and release date talk. It's driving me crazy. When is the WWDC? When can we finally put the rumors to rest.

I need to see what all iOS6 brings before I can say.

If it's nothing more that iOS5 souped up with a few add ins and SIRI but not a lot of new API's then I can see a late July early August release.

If iOS6 is a major overhaul then yeah it's probably an October release

Yeah, that's really the onliest problem and that's why I believe there's a possibility for an June/July 'iPhone 5' launch, but that it's unlikely (since there is no iOS 6).

On the other side, Apple might surprise us and just announce both iOS 6 and a new iPhone this WWDC.

Or can Apple show off the new iPhone at the big event on June 11th, just say coming this Fall, but have the device to show to press only, and say it is not 100% final yet, but at least can show off the design and new screen, etc... ?

It is unlikely because that would mean current iPhone 4S sales would drastically drop. I would, however, keep this in mind: they could announce both iOS 6 and an 'iPhone 5'. They could settle with, for example, a late July launch or early August launch. In the meantime, developers can adjust their apps for iOS 6 (and perhaps the bigger display in the next-gen iPhone (if it gets a bigger display)).

I could see them settling with a late July launch: it gives them time to create a lot of next-gen iPhones without worrying about leaks, while at the same time developers can adjust their apps for the (possible) bigger display. A late July launch (or early August) would also mean that they would only lose one month of iPhone 4S sales. The iPhone 3G was announced on June 9, 2008 and was launched on July 13, 2008 - that's over a month delay, so it is possible they will do this again.

There has not even been BETAS of iOS 6 so who do you expect it to be release on June?

Betas of iOS 6 will come out on WWDC, then a couple of months for the developers to test out and THEN the new iPhone will come out.

I didn't really state that they will launch an iPhone in June: the title says that Apple MIGHT be preparing for a "June/July launch" and if you even cared to read one post above yours than you'd see I've also got a second theory: both iOS 6 and iPhone 6 ('iPhone 5') announcement during WWDC 2012 and the launch of this iPhone in late July or early August - that would give them at least six weeks, if not longer, to push out some betas. And developers will be able to prepare for the bigger display.

Too be honest at this point. The iPhone has been out long enough to where I feel people know it's a yearly thing. People who buy it surf the web also. If they read any of the tech blogs or open up yahoo, cnn or wsj they're going to see a blurb about leaks and have an idea one is coming. They're either going to buy the 4s or hold out. I really don't think announcing is going to make a difference in the grand scheme of things. The thing is Apple doesn't tend to announce and then make you wait months for their product though.

If iOS6 is a major over haul it will be a fall release. If iOS 6 is really iOS5.5 then a Aug release could be possible but it's Apple so who knows.

One thing for sure is the leaks on design the last few days have all been consistent. Those case we seen are probably what we'll be seeing at release except I expect them to be more polished and clean lines

Except for the fact that Apple earns a big part of its money OUTSIDE of the United States - and there it is much less common to report rumours.

It might be a yearly thing, but there's a difference between knowing "It will be out in one month" and between knowing "A new iPhone will probably be released somewhere within the coming five months". That last thing is the case right now.

iPhone sales always see a decline near the end of a cycle, but this decline is always more sharp when the product is announced.

Still say it's been out long enough that people know. Even those outside of the US. At this point if you got an iphone even outside of the US you know how to use the internet.

All you have to do is look at their past release cycle to get an idea when the next one should be out. Last year was an odd move but even then this is June so the question is do I hold off and hope it's 2 months away or do I hold off for 4-5 months. That's the question people with 3G/3Gs/4 are asking now even on this board.

At this point in the game. If I'm going to reup a 2yr contract I'm waiting, even if that meant I had to buy a cheap go phone till release.
