"An Apple Card unboxing" I've seen it all!

Anyway I got the invite this morning, quick application through Wallet...but one snag. I forgot I put a freeze on my credit after the Equifax disaster, the application prompted me on that. SMH.

When I get home, I have to unfreeze my credit.

I'd like to thank all those people on Twitter that are posting pictures of their new CC with their actual names. While it doesn't show the CC number, it does show that it is a mastercard and their name. It's just asking for fraud and identity theft. What idiots.

That's a pretty big stretch. You're not getting anywhere in defrauding someone with only their name.

Pick any adult's name in the US. They have a Visa or Mastercard. 80% chance it's a Visa.

But it's just part of the puzzle. Someone that knows a concrete, true piece of information about you (real name, that you have an Apple card) can match that up with other info to get a profile and do nefarious things with that info. Very common tactic.

Well, I know now that you have a mastercard through goldman sachs and your name is 'nilay patel' (not you really but the first twitter picture from the article). That gives me a ton of info. All I need from that is a little bit of time with google and I have what I need.

The best feature, IMO, is the virtual card number for online transactions.

I can buy something from a site I've never visited before without worrying about them "skimming" my card number. I just have my Wallet App generate a virtual card number/EXP/CCV. If I visit another site I want to buy something from I can generate a brand new virtual card number. If I want I could literally generate a virtual number for every single transaction I do online.

Just think how this will help with fraud investigations. If I used a virtual card at an online retailer, and a week later that number is attempted again for another purchase the bank will immediately know it's a fraud attempt. Further, if a virtual number I used at one online store is attempted to be used at a different online store the bank not only knows it's a fraud attempt, but they now have a verified link between the two entities. This should go a long way to reducing fraud and catching the organized criminals as you now have a "paper trail". With a regular card that might have been used at dozens (or hundreds) of locations it can be difficult to figure out which of those locations was the source of the skimming.

Depends. What are the rewards and are they actually used? For example, who cares if you get a ton of miles if you don't actually take them, and if you instead cash them in for Amazon credits at a tiny fraction? And who cares about 4-5% cash back when it's a rotating category?

Citi double cash card is 2%. On everything.

With my spending patterns I make far more on my Sapphire Reserve than I would with an Apple Card.

Bank of America Premier Rewards has good cash back and can be increased greatly through high qualifying balances in BofA/Merrill accounts (so you can have up to 2.7% cash back on everything with no limit). That one is admittedly not applicable for most people.

Why would you assume those parameters would remain unchanged over different countries? HSBC, Barclays, Rabobank, American Express, etc. have cards in US and Europe with very different policies.

Obviously that is a fair point. But they would need to partner with a different bank as well. Not sure if that’s worth the hassle for them, considering the lower gains. Goldman Sachs doesn’t have a banking license here, I think. But then again, I might be completely wrong.

On the other hand, Europe is not very credit card-y. With Apple Pay we have all we need really.

Now Apple can check people's credit history in store before deciding the person is worth the risk of selling a $1500 iPhone or more expensive computer etc on credit card. Good way for Apple to protect itself really.

I really like this feature. I know other cards do something similar but none of mine currently do.
