I am amazed at how many Apple fans who frequent forums never carry a balance on their credit card and have high FICO scores. Mac users must be doing something right...

I don’t live in the US, but I have pretty much been using a debit card since I started working. I literally can’t spend more money than I have.

Nor do I consider myself rich by any means of the term. I guess I am just a pretty frugal person overall except when it comes to Apple products?

Where are you? Because Capital One is one I know do real time EOM reporting. I have Amex, Chase, Barclay, Citibank, etc and have daily credit monitoring with myFICO and no it’s not my End of the month balance that reports, it’s what remains unpaid the day after my statement close dates. Amex gets froggy sometimes and may do a mid cycle balance report
I think he’s talking about Apple Card billing cycle. Everone who got invited at this moment all has end of the month payment cycle.

The high percentage reminds me of that short lived, yet absolutely hilarious looney tunes short with the shark and piranha where the shark would always say “e-Gotch’ya!” Lol.

I'm not familiar with that one. I was a bit perplexed as well by the higher rate; I recently re-did my HELOC and my score dropped a few points. I'm also carrying my better half's car on my credit even though I'm not paying for it which pushes up my DTI to 40% (I think?). Perhaps one or the other or both resulted in the higher rate. But again, I don't carry balances on credit cards (HELOC is market plus 1.25%, usually under 4.5%) so its not really of much concern to me personally.

As I mentioned before, I was straight up declined with a FICO of 800.

Ironically enough, I just got an email from Amex, with whom I have a 2-year relationship, that they just upped my limit by another 15% to $32,800 without me even asking for it. My original limit with them was $10k and they steadily up it every six months without me even asking. This is a card that we pay in full each month.

So I'm not sure what kind of risk GS thinks I am exactly.

I was declined as well. Tried two applications and the second one came back, in wallet, that I was “not eligible” for the card. The email following that states the reason as, “too many recent applications.”

Not sure Goldman has this whole thing worked out.

Chip and signature cards work fine overseas. None of my cards have a pin and I haven't encountered any problems in Europe and Asia.

clearly you’ve never tried to get gas in the middle of the night in Europe or buy a train ticket in Amsterdam at an automated kiosk...

I’ve been burned by not having chip and pin more than once.

with that said, it actually looks like I can assign a pin to my BoA card... will have to try it and see if it works the next time I’m overseas!

usually chip and sig is fine, or the automated system takes Apple Pay. But not always!

That's correct because I did read that I could have trouble using my cards at kiosks in the train station. I made sure to use my credit card with a ticket agent at Amsterdam Centraal. I did think it was cool I could use Apple Pay to get entry to the water closet there.

Got my physical card yesterday. I dig it.

I also put it in my leather wallet.

What other dastardly deeds can I do to it?

:D

I can already tell that it's really going to bug me that I can't download the transactions into Quicken. I'm big on budgets and tracking my spending. I can do it with the Apple Card, but it involves creating a separate Split item for my payments on the card. So I essentially have to manually enter every transaction inside of a Split to be able to track my spending. Not a fan of that. Trying to decide if I want to keep it as my Apple Pay default or switch that back to my Citi Double Cash and just use Apple Card for Apple purchases. Decisions decisions...

You can do what I did yesterday and drive over it. I went through a drive through and when the cashier returned my card one of us was a butterfinger and the card fell between the car and the window. With a long line of cars behind me and not being able to get out of the car, I had to go forward far enough to retrieve it. The rear wheel went right over it.

It doesn’t look to much the worse, but I haven’t tried to use it.
[doublepost=1567279505][/doublepost]Has anyone used their physical card at a pump at a gas station. If so did it work, or did you have to go inside and prepay. I find that a nuisance, but I haven’t been able to get it to work at the pump.

I’ve used it at a pump at my local gas station without issue. It was a Kroger gas station.

i got mine, didnt like the apr but accepted anyway. i dont carry balances in my cards and this one makes it super easy to pay almost the same hour the charge hits. its really tempting me to just use it for groceries and every day purchases and rack up the 2-3% and pay it off the next day. i guess it gets tricky if i ever use it for anything i cant immediately afford but i have other lower and promotional apr cards for that.

You don’t have to pay it off the same or the next day for interest not to apply.

i know that, but paying as soon as it hits the card feels more like im just using my bank account with a daily delay, and its a lot easier to do directly in the wallet than any other cards apps.

No problem anywhere with physical card. Including gas pumps.

I will say, Apple has made it ridiculously easy to make a payment on it.

Pick any adult's name in the US. They have a Visa or Mastercard. 80% chance it's a Visa.

Honestly. Pick a name, make up a name, whatever. They have a card. Silly comment.

I genuinely think no one with a credit score below a 700 should qualify. I find that most people are extremely irresponsible with credit cards no matter their age.

Well, that's why you're not CEO at the bank. Banks make the vast majority of their interest on consumers just like that. Lower scores with high rates - leaving the banks rolling in profits.

Whats funny as I didnt. When I applied the other day for the Apple Card I was approved and immediately after re locked my Transunion thinking they would have hard pulled at that exact moment. 2 hours later I get an alert from TRansunion and Credit Karma that a hard pull was attempted on my locked report lol.

EXACT Same thing happened to me. Made no sense.

Well got the email invite so I took a chance. Now the thing of it is my score was lower 700’s, showed 100% on time no overextended on credit everything was perfect BUT I was declined because we had to file bankruptcy back in 2014 due to lose of my hubbys and mine jobs and I became full time caregiver to my Mom who had cancer. We had to start over and before our bankruptcy our scores were always in the 800’s. We worked hard to reestablish our credit over the last few years and have done very well in doing everything right. We finally got a Capital One CC and have had that for the last 2 plus years doing everything right. Just using it to buy gas or groceries and paying off every month. Never been late on anything! We have rented for 5 years now going on 6. No issues no problems pay everything as much as we can with cash only using the Capital One once a month for little things to bring up our credit score which finally is like I said in the 700’s. So why were we declined? Because we had a bankruptcy still on file and that won’t come off u til 2003. I guess I thought for sure seeing as we show a history of great credit activity and I owned a iPhone 6S Plus now an iPhone XS Max, IPad Pro and 2 Apple PCs you would think we would be accepted. Nope! I won't try again, we will wait. Few more years our bankruptcy will be done no big deal if I don’t have this card just thought it would be a way to do this like our Capital one but there are other CC’s out there we can and are already approved for but not the Apple Card which is too bad, we give them good business but no worries, we don’t need it that bad at all.

Join a credit union. They are VERY forgiving of previous BKs.

17.99% seems to be the sweet spot; a lot of people seem to be getting that.

I got the same rate. My score was 790.

But I have read about some people with low scores getting the lowest rate, 12.99, with a trivial limit like $500.

Countless people are denied credit because of too many recent applications. Extremely common. Most credit-issuers have designed a system consisting of many factors such that when income, credit, etc., are factored in, the system either denies (with reasons) or approves a limit/rate. Chase's system will deny credit to anyone who has opened more than 5 bankcards in the prior 24 months.

Yeah...this has nothing to do with recent applications to other cards. No new cards opened in at least 3 years and only one hard inquiry on TU report, from January 2018.

In fact, I think the last card opened was a United Club Card from Chase. That was at least 5 years ago.

This is a Goldman Sachs issue, per Apple and GS.

as far as gas pump, just did that yesterday. had to make sure the strip lined up with the reader, which is oriented differently from most other cards when it comes to the front name, etc
