I’m surprised folks aren’t stripping off the paint, and putting different surface treatments on the metal.

There’s lots that can be done with color, machine turning, buffing, etc.

Both the chip and mag strip could be masked to protect their functionality.

"Bloomberg Businessweek sent an Apple Card to University of California, Berkeley professor and mineralogist Hans-Rudolf Wenk to determine the card's atomic makeup"

God bless Apple - all these nonsense keep a lot of people employed.

sorry i don't have the apple card (yet).
how much does the card weigh in grams?
and next i want to find out the price of titanium.

don't worry about weight and thickness. Apple Card 2 gonna be thinner and lighter. Yayy!!!

Two points:

First, for those amazed at the $139 Apple Card case there is actually one available for the really high rollers among us for $900.00.

Second: As far as there toughness goes, I actually managed to drive over mine (butterfingers at a drive through) with no real damage to it at all. One very small ding on the magnetic strip.

Bloomberg Businessweek sent an Apple Card to University of California, Berkeley professor and mineralogist Hans-Rudolf Wenk to determine the card's atomic makeup. The answer: 90% titanium and 10% aluminum.

From the report:Apple previously said the card's white finish is achieved through a "multi-layer coating process" that is added to the titanium base material. In a recent support document, Apple said if the card comes into contact with hard surfaces or materials, it is possible that the coating can be damaged.

Apple also said some fabrics, like leather and denim, might cause permanent discoloration on the card that will not wash off.

Waiting for the new Molybdenum Apple Card-S.

Apple card 2 is gonna need something to protect it from scratches.
I suggest Apple go for a redesign instead of an “S” release.
Maybe add a battery for additional functions like a flashlight etc, would be cool if it could be wirelessly charged etc.

With regard to the physical card itself, it is thicker and heavier... and quite cool. It invites conversation from everyone you hand it to. Very Apple-ish.

Agree.

But my Amex Platinum metal card that's heavier, gets a twice over look..

I am much relieved to now have this information. I had been deeply concerned as to the materials used to construct this card... I can't count how many nights I've lain awake wondering just this question.

/sarcasm

Who cares what it’s made out of, if it scratches or what it cost? It doesn’t cost the user anything and it’s made to be used. I will admit it seems a little weird that denim and leather can stain it. I’m mean jeans and a wallet are something my card will always be around. But again, who cares?

Well the Apple Watch glass is sapphire but as Zac from YouTube showed it’s not the same sapphire as high end watches. So I wonder if this that good good titanium or a cheapo titanium.

This. As someone in an industry that revolves around titanium, "common" titanium contains aluminum and vanadium. 6al4v as you referred to. Almost anything made of "titanium" has this makeup. 6% up to sometimes 10% aluminum. This is not news at all.

Agree, since this is normal, don't see it as news----

Oh... I will be waiting until an Apple Card X comes out, without a chip and with a notched shape. In the dark, it’s won’t be just a card, you’re instantly gonna see it’s an Apple Card! That’s gonna happen by Innovation Only off course.

My Apple Card still remains in the case it came in. I keep wanting to carry it around and then am afraid I'll stain it - then I remind myself that's a stupid reason not to use a FREE CARD...then I remind myself I don't want to carry it around because using the physical card only gets me 1% cash back. In the case it stays as a small investment in the metals market.

A support document for the card, which reads if it were the care instructions for a piece of fine jewelry, boasts of the laser etching used to imprint customers’ names, a “multi-layer coating process” designed to give the card a pleasing white matte finish, and the card’s material—titaniuma fact that’s mentioned 13 times in the document.

That little snippet that I bolded really makes the article seem snarky, as if they were pleased to report that the card is only 90% titanium. I wonder if their little science project had revealed that the card was 100% titanium if they would have written an article.
