So weird! My wife is unemployed (stay at home mom) and hers verified and approved on the first try!

I chatted with both Apple and Goldman Sachs this morning. Neither could explain why I was required to submit ID or why a US Passport and Global Entry ID were deemed not acceptable identification.

It's especially galling to me because I own a substantial amount of Apple stock. Do I really want to own a piece of a company that treats me like dirt? Still not sure.

My State issues drivers license failed to verify as well. Apple support was nice but no help.

My wife used her DL and went through ton the first try. Which is awesome but weird because she doesn’t have any income besides mine. I mean she does work harder than me keeping up with the kids... She got approved for $6k! I can’t even get my identification varied.

I was declined with a nearly 800 score, so I’m completely baffled about how they are coming up with these decisions on rates and approvals.
Did you not get the email that tells you why you were declined? In my case I found the email in my Junk Mail folder...

I was never actually declined. I couldn't get past the section where I had to scan an ID. I don't have a Driver's License or State ID. I tried passport and Global Entry card, but they didn't work. So, I never got past that point to actually submit an application.

Anyone get this ?
My wife got that--turns out (I'm guessing here--apparently Apple Card services are temporarily down at the moment so she can't try again for now) she entered just her first and last name on the app but her DL card has her first/middle/last name.

I was turned down.

Credit score of 825 and no debt (we own our home and cars outright).

Reason: "A bank has recently closed your account"

The irony is that was a savings account I closed months ago to open a new Marcus by Goldman Sachs saving account and CD.

*sad trombone*
If you haven't already done so, you should check your report to see if it says "Closed by grantor" (or similar wording--it can also say "Closed by creditor") or "Closed by consumer" (or similar); if indeed *you* closed the savings account, then the entry on your credit report should not be showing it as being closed by the bank--it makes a big difference as far as whether the entry is considered derogatory.

I got this same email which also stated my score was 850. In my case it was a small personal loan that had been paid off with no late payments whatsoever. Did they expect the bank to keep the account open after it was paid off?!

I had a bankruptcy four years ago when I got divorced. I think my credit score is in the 700s now. I’ve had a few low limit credit cards post bankruptcy, in the range of 1000, with annual fees, not great rewards, etc. Apple offered me 5500 and 23.99. For me this is far and away the best card I’ve gotten post-divorce. As long as I pay it off every month, it’s a great thing to have for the rewards and for rebuilding credit.

I see the Apple Credit Card as becoming the Sears Credit Card of today. Back in the “good old days” of the 1960’s to 1990’s, if you wanted to build your credit score you were advised to get a Sears Credit Card. That was your stepping stone to greater credit cards. Once you got a a Sears CC then American Express and Diners Club would beat A path to your door, and banks would suddenly open their tills to you.

I can't apply yet because I use iOS 12 that keeps my 8 plus off the throttle.

Asked my wife if she was going to get an Apple Card.

She looked at me with the "pffff" look.

Whatever. :D

Just got mine:
17.99% with a 800+ credit score and over 100k / year income.
My only debt is my house and it is currently worth twice what I owe on it.
How the heck do I get 12.99%? Million / year income?

I pay off my current Amazon credit card every month. I use it for everything to get free books!
I think this card it a bit out of my league.

I got 12.99/15K limit with very similar credit score/income numbers to yours. We have an AMEX Hilton Hhhonors Card that we pay off every month.

Baffling. My wife got the same 17.99% as me but a higher limit 20K, crazy. Maybe it has to do with all the US -> Columbia flights we take ( kidding ). Congrats on the 'low' percentage!

What do you mean can’t use at Cosco, works for me?

Maybe you should post a screenshot of the transaction on your apple wallet? I need to go try it out myself, just doesn't make sense since they only take Visa. Ive seen multiple posts of people saying it worked for them!

:D Thanks. My wife takes care of making sure everything gets paid on time, so the "credit" goes to her! We just opened one card under my name. I didn't realize that Apple doesn't offer joint accounts at this time. I wonder if that will change in the future?

Apple's own document on the topic doesn't include either of our situations in their list of reasons why one might be declined. The closest they come is:

"Your checking account was closed by a bank (for example, due to repeatedly spending more than your available account balance)."

...which isn't the case. A) ours weren't checking accounts; and B) they weren't closed due to irresponsible behavior.

So, pretty weird. It's not like you can call someone and get help either. You're just done.

Again, you should check your credit report to see what the exact wording is shown for that account--if it states "closed by grantor" (or creditor), then you should file a dispute with the credit reporting agency and explain that *you* closed the account voluntarily; the agency will then look into the matter--if they rule in your favor, then they will update the entry on your credit report accordingly. If you closed the account on good terms (i.e., in good standing), then the credit report should reflect that as "account closed by consumer". When an account on a credit report shows that it was closed by creditor/grantor, it almost always means that the account was closed on bad terms--not something you'd like to see on a credit report.

Thanks for the advice.

I looked through my online credit reporting resources and didn't find anything related to an account closure that was "closed by creditor/grantor" or otherwise listed as a red flag. Maybe it's too recent, I don't know. You'd think my credit score would've been impacted by such a thing as well but it hasn't.

I contacted TransUnion and the person on the phone couldn't find anything either but is sending me a hard copy of my report for review.

This isn't about the Apple Card anymore. It's about, what the hell is going on?
