And they just conveniently ignore the entire international market like they were before. Kinda unsurprising.

And yes. That “set as default later” is shameless.

Yeah, the fact that they can't introduce it internationally, once again, is disappointing...

Even though being told several times, I still scratch my head wondering why the most powerful country in the world cannot push contactless payment into nation-wide adaptation like Australia, for example. Maybe America has its own hurdles stopping this push from happening.

Thanks for heads up.

It is the same country that was left behind when it came to 3G networks, if I recall correctly, only to play catch-up with Europe afterwards :)

I just ran into a big gotcha with the Apple Card. It's apparently tied to your Apple ID rather than to you as an individual. No problem you say? Well, I happen to have two Apple IDs because I have an old one going back to before iCloud was even a thing. I received the invitation and got approved, but now I cannot use or link the card but only to devices using that specific Apple ID. So I can't even use it with my primary iPhone, Apple Watch, etc, due to this because I use my iCloud.com Apple ID on those.
Right there with ya apparently Apple has no interest in fixing this thanks to their mobile me mess that caused people to have multiple Apple id’s to begin with. Boooooooo Apple fix it don’t leave your customers to become rotten apples.

Interest still seems kind of high. My Barclaycard Mastercard is at 10% (fixed rate, not variable) and I'm pretty sure I can call and negotiate that down a bit, just too lazy to do it and I rarely carry a balance for long as it's important to NOT pay that interest anyway. Plus they still charge that same 10% for cash withdrawals and balance transfers with no % fees. Plus no purchase protection/extended warranty on the Apple card? Yeah I'll stick to my Barclaycard.
Why do you care about the interest rate or make cash withdrawals with a credit card?

Again, these are non-factors.

Actually that's wrong. The crappiest US network, T-Mobile, had better LTE coverage than Germany, UK, France, and Spain as of 2014: https://tefficient.com/4g-lte-coverage-europe-catching-up-less-populated-countries-lead/

A lot of this was because US was on top of things. Before the analog TV shutdown in early 2009, spectrum was auctioned off for LTE use. Europe did this was 3-5 years later. But they came up with a very EU-sounding name for it, the "digital dividend".

Go to Eastern Europe or even rural UK and you'll be on GSM. Our largest carrier, AT&T switched off their GSM network in 2016, number 2 Verizon will ban any new non-LTE devices at the end of this year and switch off non-LTE networks at the end of 2020. #3, T-Mobile has a GSM network solely for legacy devices which will be turned off 2021.

Get ready for a repeat on 5G. The Nordic countries are going to deploy it widely and quickly and act smart, while the rest of the continent catches up: https://www.politico.eu/article/europe-5g-stumbles-fast-internet-availability-rollout/

I don't quite understand why someone would want or need two Apple ID's. I have had the same Apple ID since Prodigy and AOL were created.. sometime in the late '80's??(maybe in the early '90's) - way before that me.com or iCloud.com stuff... I guess I missed the two-AppleID-boat on that one.
There’s people like me who had used an existing email address to use in iTunes on a Windows PC before getting an iPhone. When I bought an iPhone I had to create an iCloud account so now I have 2 Apple ID’s and no way to merge them. I have so many purchases with my original Apple ID that there’s no way I could abandon it and Apple is not interested in helping me out with this. I would love to use my iCloud ID for everything but...nope

Same here. I have my original iTunes Apple ID and then signed up for the Mobile Me plan when it first came out so long ago which later converted over to iCloud. I also have many purchases under the original ID and no way to merge them. Whenever Apple asks for my Apple ID I never know which one they mean. This is going to be a problem for many in our same situation that want to get the Apple Card.

Your account is dead if you lose your phone, or simply buy a non-Apple phone.

I was actually very excited for the Apple Card and thought it was one of the best things to come out of Apple’s March event. But having a credit card auto-canceled because I switch phone brands is not acceptable. Deal breaker, no thanks.

Edit: wrong event

I’m shocked that Apple hasn’t resolved issues like yours and mine. I would love to use my iCloud ID for everything but it’s just not possible. At this point I would even be happy with any 3rd party email address on both but it can’t be done. I thought maybe if I created a new Apple ID I could then change my App Store ID to that one. Nope. You CANNOT change the App Store email to any iCloud email because “it’s already associated with another account”. It is maddening that this cannot be rectified.

I got my invite and it basically was the most painless process. No one is twisting any ones arm to get this card. I have never in my life seen so much whining and complaining. If you don't like the terms don't apply for the card. I get it some people carry a balance on their cards so the lower interest rate would be important. But I think most that do reward type credit cards likely pay off the balance each month. I never had two apple ID's as I had always used non-icloud Apple ID and even when I signed up for an iCloud email address it didn't force me to switch Apple ID to the iCloud email address. Some of you did that, when you didn't have to it seems. I got the card and I am not particularly worried about the interest rate or the fact that it doesn't have some of the other benefits of other cards. I can use one of my other cards if I want to or not. It seems regardless of what Apple does these days it's just never right! Geez!

3G my friend, I was talking about 3G, not LTE... a while back, lol

Did you have a Mobile Me account though? It's people like me who had a Mobile Me account YEARS ago that was a paid subscription service (I think it was something like $99 a year) that was being converted over to the now free iCloud. We were notified that Mobile Me was being shuttered and you would lose all your data if you did not convert your Mobile Me to an iCloud address which I did and so did many other people, if not most people, since you no longer had to pay the $99. That is the problem. It now made all those people have two Apple ID's. There was not a choice to use the iTunes ID if that is what you are implying. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Oh, now I see. I forgot about Windows iTunes. When I created my Apple ID it was on an Apple MacPlus...But when I had to use a Dell Windows machine (and Windows iTunes) I was just able to continue using my ol' Apple ID, and now that I am back on an Apple MacBook (yay!) and an iPhone, my Apple ID just flowed to my devices and clouds.

It would be nice if Apple would merge multiple Apple ID's into just one for people that do have 2 Apple ID's.... I mean, how hard can THAT be? Didn't Apple merge that me.com and iCloud.com.. or was that just for email addresses?*

And now that the :apple:iTunes era is coming to an end...... yikes!

*on a side note, I have a friend that still uses his Netscape email address! :)

Yes, I had the Mobile Me and NO I wasn't forced to use anything, but the Apple ID I created which happens to be connected to my own personal domain. I have a @me and @cloud account listed under my current non-apple ID. So, I think you are incorrect based on my experience with the process. You did have an option. I converted my @me to @icloud account too, but again no impact on my Apple ID. I was never forced to change my Apple ID thereby creating two Apple ID's.

I got my invite on launch day and got approved. They gave me a limit of $30,000.00 at 17.99%. I also got my card in the mail today. Beautiful card!

There is kinda a way to merge accounts. Set up multiple accounts with “Family Sharing” and turn on “Purchase Sharing”. You can share purchases between up to six accounts.

The oddball thing is that it will look like the app/music isn’t already purchased on the other accounts, but when you try to purchase it will bypass payment with an alert saying “another member of your family has already purchased...”

I don't mind having the two different IDs (though I'd love an official process to merge one into the other) but what is frustrating is that you can't use the card as the default payment in the iTunes store for the apple id it wasn't assigned to. In theory it shouldn't care as long as it is in the wallet on the device and you are logged into iCloud with the ID it was issued to on that same device. That seems to be where it falls apart and prevents you from getting the points for iTunes purchases. Of course it doesn't prevent you from doing other things like making apple store purchases or doing apple pay anywhere else or using the physical card.
