So long as you carry around your iPhone and iPad whenever you go out, but keep them separate so losing one doesn't lose the other... yeah this is really simple stuff from Apple. A card that just works on its own was too difficult.

Where did you read that the physical card doesn’t work on it’s own?

No need for website management its all in the Wallet & Apple Pay in settings

Apple Card holders better hope they never need to send in their iPhone for repairs, or that they have another iDevice to use in the meantime.

And that’s where Apple usually comes in and subverts expectations, when you least expect it. No one was complaining about MP3 players or smart phones until Apple stepped in those markets.

That’s great that you have zero issues, but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for improvement. For example, just look at the maps feature that AC offers where it tracks every transaction through GPS and integrates it with Maps and also automatically renames any transaction that particular business name instead of an obscure name. It’s extremely user friendly. I have two Chase cards myself (Amazon and Freedom) and neither gives me that type of info or feature set.

Banking in your country must be really dire if this is such a wow feature.

Your account is dead if you lose your phone, or simply buy a non-Apple phone.

But you’re saying I need to carry an iOS device when I go out with the physical card at the same time. Why must one do that?

Been doing that for years with my Revolut card. Works worldwide with multiple currencies with no fees. App available on iOS and Android. Instant notifications whenever a payment is sent or received. Also has built in support to split the bill between multiple people if you're into that kind of thing.

Ok, but you can’t say the physical card doesn’t work on its own when it fact it still can. You don’t get the full benefits like you say, but you do still get 3% cash back at Apple stores, whatever that’s worth to you.

3% is worth less than nothing since you get no purchase protection or warranty so need to add on the cost of that separately (AppleCare or 3rd party insurance)

Apple is really hoping to fool customers into selling off their rights for a tiny upfront percentage

"Rights"? You're paying for those benefits and insurance via a higher interest rate, a higher interchange rate (passed on to you by the merchant), annual fees and late fees, and high credit standards (American Express: if they've ever written off a single dollar of your debt, or you filed bankruptcy with their card, you're banned for life). And credit card companies consistently count on users to forget these exist, when utilization goes too high, they cancel them.

And if merchants get their way, interchange is going to drop to Europe's 0.3% levels, leading to complete cancellation of all of these benefits and rewards.

Sounds like Apple Card's security features might be a good thing in that scenario, then, because otherwise there'd almost be no point in using anything but a debit card. Hell, I kinda think a lot fewer people in general would have switched away from using cash without rewards being a thing considering how (maybe rightfully) paranoid Americans can be when it comes to money.

(BTW, I doubt they'll go down to EU levels. They might get cut a bit eventually, but I don't see that happening in the short to medium term--and it'll probably be driven more by momentum towards cashless stalling than anything else.)

Seriously? What if I lose my phone or what if it breaks? How am I going to review my account or pay my bill in the meantime?

By phone and mail: the old fashioned way. From the T&C:
Without a Required Device, you will only be able to manage your Account by contacting us by phone or mail, and your Monthly Statement will only be sent to you by email or mail. If you do not maintain a Required Device, we may close your account.

The hype I’m seeing today is over the top. One guy claimed close to 70% of iPhone users will have an Apple Card and it will be one of Apple’s most important products over the next 10 years. I don’t get all the OMG over the card changing colors in the app. I saw someone else on Twitter wondering if they’re going to have anxiety if someone sees the color of their card. Good grief.

I’m also not a huge fan of this UI. Yeah I’m sure Apple really wants Apple Card to be your default CC but it’s just shameless. Saying set as default later is confusing. I’d rather have a button that says no thanks and then maybe below it something in fine print that says you can set as default in the wallet app at any time or something like that.

And they just conveniently ignore the entire international market like they were before. Kinda unsurprising.

And yes. That “set as default later” is shameless.

Apple Wallet lets you hold a maximum of eight cards. I had to remove one before I was able to apply for/add the Apple credit card.

I have 9 including my debit card, so I guess that doesn’t count?

Thanks for the heads up though. And that’s ok if I have to remove one. It’ll be replacing my Barclay Card :)

Although much like with Apple Cash, the rest of the world also has less of a need for it. For one thing, people outside the US were already inserting physical cards for years, if not moved onto tapping said cards--all before we bothered with chip. Not to mention instant bank transfers for the most part being impossible in the US until the advent of stuff like Venmo and AP in general being more commonly used by non-Americans vs. Americans.

That said, I still hope other countries get Apple Cash and Apple Card eventually.

The limit was increased to 12 from the 8/X/Watch 3 and later.

I just ran into a big gotcha with the Apple Card. It's apparently tied to your Apple ID rather than to you as an individual. No problem you say? Well, I happen to have two Apple IDs because I have an old one going back to before iCloud was even a thing. I received the invitation and got approved, but now I cannot use or link the card but only to devices using that specific Apple ID. So I can't even use it with my primary iPhone, Apple Watch, etc, due to this because I use my iCloud.com Apple ID on those.

So...after going around and around with both Apple ID support and Goldman card support, the only thing they could do was cancel the card entirely. The cards are strictly tied to the Apple ID that they are initially issued to and cannot be transferred or otherwise ever changed to any other Apple ID, even if they are owned by the same person. Wow, what an incredibly ill conceived concept this entire card is.
