Sounds more like Spotify than Pandora...

I'm waiting to hear if it's advertising supported like Pandora, for pay, for free just to drive clicks to itunes?

First time I've heard of Apple backing down on such an extreme deal.

When you are late to the game you have to pay what everyone else does. Only the first company to start a new business model usually gets great deals. Pandora did but slowly they have been having a tough time making money because of rising royalties.

It looks like Apple needs the music labels a WHOLE lot more than the music labels need Apple.

Spotify is a subscription service that gives you access to their entire library. Nothing in these news leaks about iRadio suggest that. It seems they will just add a way to buy the songs. It's really a shame if they don't provide a subscription options like Spotify.

i for see this being like PING or photo stream; a service I will never use.

I long for the days of less choice, and better quality. Has apple figured out email yet?

I've been a subscriber to Spotify since it came to the US and its a fantastic program. Why would I want to start all over with Apples service?

Spotify may be fantastic, but Apple will be truly magical.

And it could all be total BS. that they are trying to remake Pandora etc. that they demanded lower royalties, that they backed down

We will never know such details as fact, just rumor

It's a pretty likely rumor since most of the leaks came from multiple music studios that were dealing with Apple.

Let me know when iRadio gives me complete access to the entire iTunes music library on multiple platforms (including the web which they are rolling out now). You get all of those with Spotify.

Don't forget Apple's advantage in this: its content is not required to make money. Sure it does now, but Apple can afford even to lose money on iRadio, so long as overall its content deals break even. For Apple, content exists solely to sell hardware. That gives it the advantage over companies like Pandora and Spotify: they are finding it hard to make money at current royalty rates, Apple doesn't need to. It doesn't even need to play ads during streaming like the free versions of its competitors, I bet the most it will do is use iAd to show them on the screen: much less intrusive than audio ads.

Exactly.

Imagine the slogan: "The iPhone... now with free streaming iRadio"

That would sell a few iPhones :D

Steve Jobs might have never caved but probably would have gotten a better deal. Either way, this is a good thing for consumers as the choice was content or no content. I'll take the content.

Spotify Premium is the best $10 a month I have spent.

That is the biggest problem since iAd hasn't been very profitable for Apple or publishers.

Seems like apple just gave up on it, i have never seen an iAd on my iPad and when i see it on my iPhone 5 it still doesn't support the 4 inch screen and comes up with black bars.

I just hope that these deals are being negotiated at a global level. It took years for alot of the content available on Apple TV in the US to reach Australia. And we still don't have Hulu or Netflix!

This isn't gonna be like Spotify which lets you search up an artist and listen to their music. This is gonna be like pandora but better.
Let me explain. Apple wants this to be a radio like service with the ability to purchase songs you hear on the spot which will then go through iCloud to all your devices and computers.
Apple wants you listening to new music so that you will purchase more often. What's the point in listening to songs on the radio that you already have in your iTunes library?? This is all about selling content to its users not just streaming what they already like to listen to.

If this works through the USB connection in my Acura, ill be very happy. I'm hoping it will display the track and artist name like it does when I play iTunes music from the ipad.

So where's all the comments about everyone emulating apple? Obviously this is not an original idea. Not that I care. I take the best regardless of who came up with the idea first. Ill dump pandora in a heartbeat just like I dumped my iPhone for android.

Really cause what I have seen are places like the Post CLAIMING to have talked to multiple sources. Which could be true and could that they went into several different bathrooms to pull things out of their butts

Itunes should be web based like amazon and google's music purchasing service. It seems dumb that it's not, they've gotta be loosing lots of sales.

They are the ones with the bat..... and the ball.

Besides I thought I read that Pandora had the best deal with the music industry right now. So if Apple is "neck and neck" with Pandora in regards to their deal with the industry then they'll be okay. As someone mentioned, Apple just wants to sell the hardware and they have far more money than all the music services out there. Free would be awesome and definitely a big sell for their hardware, cheap subscription would be the next best thing. Hope it works out for them.

No, not the first time. They relented when the music companies pushed to get away from .99 songs. Sure the end deal to make some older songs .69 let Apple save face, but Apple lost that round too. Music companies are in control of their content again. Apple is just one of many outlets now. They don't have the same bargaining power as when iTunes was unique.

You're absolutely correct but this isn't the strategy that Apple usually adopts. They always charge to for content even when strategically they might be able to expand market share by subsidising it (and I guess it hasn't harmed them at all because they are sitting on a huge pile of cash!).

I would expect some sort of subscription charge (about the same as match?), but time will tell.

Yup. I don't but much digital music just because I want a lossless copy, but when I do I go to Amazon because I can play it on my devices via their app @ no extra cost, unlike Apple. Also though Amazon has some amazing $5 MP3 album sales + the new AutoRip feature is handy as well.
