My favorite earth day commemoration from Apple was when they decided that enabling a longer lifespan for these machines is important to reduce waste and additional resources used in the manufacturing process, so they started to build the computers and phones in a way that is easily maintained and upgraded by the user.

This showed they really, actually cared about the environment, and not just the bottom line.

Can't wait for my CrappleWATCH to somehow acknowledge only 29 minutes of my 30 minute outdoor exercise as "exercise" because of the terrible accuracy of the heart rate monitor ... resulting in not receiving yet another challenge medallion of absolutely zero value.

You're welcome to sell it and move to a Galaxy Gear if you hate it so much. The door's right there.

Have you been to the internets? Fake points and gamification are all the rage.

I'd opine that it's more productive to those involved than sitting around mocking people who are trying to stay fit and enjoy their lives.

Give it a rest. I have a 2006 model iMac in my home right now that still works perfectly well with no issues, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who can attest to the fact that their hardware outlives most of the competition easily.

I'm all for it. You better believe I'll go on a hike on Saturday to ensure I get this worthless badge.

instead of being bitter, why don't you use the watch the way it's intended and go into the workout app? It's is well documented that unless you are in workout app, the heart sensor only monitors periodically. While the app is running your heart rate is continuously monitored. The heart rate monitor is incredibly accurate btw.

Are people really obsessed with badges and emojis? Jeebuz!

When I was in business school we did a case study on a company where the manager would give one employee every week a cash bonus of one penny. Office morale and productivity went up not because of the monetary value, but because everyone wants to be recognized. Badges and emoji gives you a tangible short term goal to work toward and a reward for achieving it. That's all it takes to motivate some people, including myself.

After I couldn't win the Jan 2017 one, I am so winning this!
Wish badges and Activity data synced with iCloud, it will suck to lose all my data when iOS 11 is released and I wipe the phone entirely :c
I can understand not storing activity/health data in iCloud since that is private and iCloud encryption can be unlocked by Apple...but badges? Since you can store emails, bookmarks and a variety of other private documents in iCloud, I see no reason to not include this data too.

Seriously? When I think of earth day, I think turn off all devices for an entire day, that's the greatest challenge :D

LOL It's become a fad and a trend to use apps to save our earth. Interesting ?

Ahead of Earth Day, Apple is debuting a new Activity Challenge for Apple Watch owners, which will become available in the Activity app on the iPhone when Thursday, April 20 rolls around.

Apple is challenging Apple Watch owners to complete a 30 minute outdoor exercise activity on Earth Day, which is Saturday, April 22. For finishing the challenge, Apple Watch owners will be rewarded with an exclusive Earth Day award and stickers that can be used in the Messages app.

This is the third public Apple Watch challenge Apple has debuted since the Apple Watch launched in 2015. On Thanksgiving, Apple challenged Apple Watch owners to run 3.1 miles as part of a Thanksgiving Day Challenge, and on New Year's, Apple encouraged Apple Watch owners to "Ring In The New Year" by closing all three Activity rings each day for a week in January.

Earth Day Challenge stickers in Messages
In honor of Earth Day, Apple employees are also transitioning to green shirts starting on April 20, and Apple will decorate its retail stores around the world with special logos that feature a green leaf accent.

That's not completely correct. I can count 145bpm while CrappleWatch counts 75bpm.

They're just going to wear a different colored shirt tomorrow. Unless Apple is doing away with the blue shirts, transition seems like an odd word choice to me.

You're being too literal. Their Blue shirts will be "Green." They will still be blue colored, but will be woven from hair retrieved from sink drains and employees are encouraged to wash them only once every 32 wearings.

I'm sure it's nice, but that has nothing to do with what I posted about. I posted about the environmental impact of building the monstrosity. What was the impact of making, shipping and putting up the billions of tons of materials to build the campus, let alone the hundreds of acres of land that was bulldozed. It's about walking the walk, not about just talking. Apple is pretty good at the latter, not so much at the former.

Compare the two campuses. Old HP vs. New Apple. More trees, less asphalt and crowded buildings. In my opinion, The new campus is much better having seen both. Cheers.

I'm entered into a 70km bike ride on Saturday which includes 3 out of the 4 categorised climbs from stage 3 of this years Tour De Yorkshire so I can't see this being too difficult :)

Then excercise for 31 minutes. Not going to kill ya.

With that regiment, you should definitely be able to earn this badge no problem. I will certainly be taking part as well.

Call me a skeptic, but won't this create more CO2 than just sitting on the couch?

;)

Unless you're regularly munching on coal or having a sip of oil, your body most likely doesn't run on fossile fuels, so that excuse probably wouldn't get anyone out of gym class.

Of course, there's a correlation between lack of exercise and shorter lifespans, and early deaths should generally be easier on the environment – so maybe I do have an environmental argument for not getting my butt off the couch after all… ;)

Who needs new technology innovation when you have a free earth day activity and a space ship campus... #winning #rollingeyes

maybe try "Mixed Cardio" as a work around?

I don't really care about sending the badge via iMessage, but I'll take the challenge

how do you get the stickers? My activity app says I completed the challenge, and I will get them. But I don't see anything yet.
