Wellllll this is kind of obvious. And might be a good reason to move manufacturing of the phone to the US where they have better control over the supply chain.

The dip in sales couldn't have been because the iPhone 7 looks virtually identical to the one that came out last year AND the year before. And it certainly wasn't because the only distinguishing aspect is the loss of a headphone jack.

It's got to be because of the iphone 8 rumors.

Time will prove you wrong. There's a reason big money is jumping into Appls

Very hostile, you understood everything I said clearly. If you're going to flamebait like this the community doesn't need you here.
What he's trying to say is your trolling.

Apple is doing fine, Tim Cook has made SOME people happy. And one-liner "x is failing/failure" won't stop apples steam this fall, they are absolutely going crush it.

The iPhone 7 was so underwhelming that I finally broke out of the iPhone cycle. I've had every non-S phone they've made... UNTIL the 7. It was so pathetic (and overpriced) I decided to get a used 6s+ instead for about half the price of a new 7+.

Maybe he should stop blaming rumors and leaks and realize that the product was completely underwhelming and fix THAT.

I also wanted to upgrade my 2012 MBPr 15" with a new model this year and the updated one with the touch bar was so pathetic I'm still nursing my 2012 along. What was the last GOOD refresh of a product they've had?

iPads haven't improved in 3+ years, iPhones haven't improved much since the 6/6+, the MBPr is essentially the same as it was in 2012, iMac? Gets worse on each refresh. Mac mini hasn't seen a refresh in 3 years same as the Mac Pro. What are these engineers doing?

What about all those people who loved their 7 and found it worth the upgrade?

Tim Cook has more excuses in his pipeline.

There was no reason to buy an iPhone 7, and with Tim in charge there won't be a reason to buy the next one.

Really... Yet Apple sold 129 million iPhones in the last six months, mostly iPhone 7. That's a ton of people not having a reason to buy one.

Only? Hardware is improved. Better processor. More memory. Improved camera. Water resistance. Etc. Each revision has improved upon the previous one. People complaining about the iPhone need to get a grip and lose this absurd unrealistic expectation that every model is going to be a radical improvement/redesign over the predecessor. Those days are over and never coming back. The tech has matured. It's time the fanboys matured too.

The iPhone is a pocket computer. I don't see fanboys crying over the fact that they don't get a complete reimagining of the Mac every single year. The expectations are ridiculous when it comes to the iPhone. I think Tim is right on this one. The press and rumor sites pump up the expectations every year, then act shocked when Apple delivers a great new model that doesn't meet those absurd expectations. And this year the expectation machine is going nuts. I frankly think a lot of people are going to be disappointed...no matter what Apple releases.

The smartest thing Apple could do is slow the iPhone release schedule to every 18-24 months and drop the S model altogether.

Failing Apple sells same ugly phone for 3 years, all signs point to another 2 years, billions in lost sales. SAD!

Miss you Steve

Apple is a victim of their own ability to keep constantly innovating the iPhone. If people knew that a big new feature only came once every 3 years, you could safely buy this year's model and buy the next "important" one in 2-3 years.

Exactly. And this is the new reality, whether people like it or not. The tech has matured. We're never going to see year over year improvements of the same magnitude as we saw in the first few years of iPhone. The problem isn't Apple's lack of innovation. It's the ridiculously absurd expectations some customers have, often fueled by sites like this looking for clicks and ad revenue.

I went from the 5s to the 7+ and it was very much worth the upgrade! The problem is people who upgrade every year, all full of themselves and their unrealistic expectations, people who don't give a crap about their impact on the planet because they just got something shiny and new. No one needs a new phone every year. No one.

Yep. Buy the rumors and sell the news.

Interesting spin going on here. Instead of blaming rumors how about facing the fact that the longer Apple milks iPhone customers with marginal, over hyped improvements the less enthusiastic they are to fork over hard earned coin for the "new iPhone" when it's not too different from the one in their hand.

430K iPhones/quarter is a rounding error for Apple. Honestly I don't see a single thing in their business that is of concern. Apple if firing on all cylinders, crushing everyone.

A rounding error indeed - last year was a leap year, Q2 had one extra day. When you're pushing the volume that Apple does on the iPhone it matters. Yes, unit sales are down when you look at it on a quarterly basis, but do the math and you'll see that they sold 1,500 more phones per day this quarter compared to last year. And, let's not forget that Q1 sold a lot more than Q1 last year. Year over year, Apple are now on slightly over 129M vs close to 126M for last year. Sales pause my ass...

Do you say the same thing about your Mac or PC? Do you expect to buy a new TV every year? A new car? A new washing machine? Etc. Get real. Apple isn't milking anything. The tech has matured and there simply aren't blow you away new features to be had every year. Sorry. The problem is people who expect unrealistic things, then blame Apple for their expectations not being met. It's absurd.

People change cars every few years you know. A phone is somewhere between a car and shoes. Just because the "technology is maturing" doesn't mean they can't keep the iPhone looking fresh. Why did the iPhone 7 look 2 years old on launch day? Why do amateur iphone concept renderings look better than Apple's product? Imagine if Apple made a range of different looking iPhone 9's. I might have lost you with that last sentence. Remember that Ford nearly went under in the 30's for a lack of choices, and that Nike comes out with a different shoe every day.

That's utter nonsense. There are ALWAYS rumors circulating about iPhones. The simple fact is that if people are not buying iPhones NOW, it's because people aren't excited about the CURRENT iPhone. Now there could be a lot of contributing factors, like the products of other companies, or a lack of truly exciting features on your own most recent model, or even rumors of upcoming releases. But all of those are on TIM. It's his responsibility to be ahead of the curve on those things. But, IMO, that's precisely the problem with cook. He's a political activist. He's a celebrity hobnobber. He's a bean counter. He's a pragmatist. What he's not is a visionary. THAT will cost them in the long run.
