oh wow, you wasted a lot of time. lol

Nope! "Lol"; I knew before I started typing that you aren't the thoughtful or considerate type, that would benefit from my post.
I wrote it to show solidarity for the op you attacked & to show others that are like-minded that they're not alone in being tired of bland & obnoxious bullies and their boring, tired methods of "conversating". Hope this makes sense... "lol".
Clever comeback though.... thanks for brilliantly illustrating my point!

What? The iPhone was never a pocket watch. While it took the app store to explode the iphone to popularity, it was never just a pocket watch. The same thing happened with the iPod, until they made a Windows version off iTunes it wasn't nearly as successful.

Exactly my point.

When did apple go from being a proactive company to such a reactive one? :(
A year or two before Steve passed.
[doublepost=1476464883][/doublepost]When makers of VR dismiss Apple hardware/software as being too weak to handle their product and refuse to write for MacOS, no wonder Cook pushes an alternative AR for aging, less powerful hardware. We miss you Steve..... Apple Computer went to Apple Inc. and should now be called Apple Thin Phones, LLC.

Wow. Must be interesting chatting with that guy since he would be super extra careful :D

Furthermore, to many people that don't actually know about technology (many "tech bloggers" are in this category), they judge only by appearance. iPhone looks the same = no innovation to them.

Yes, it was super interesting talking and prying him for info. When he joined, he has to sign an NDA agreement that's as think as a book.

I've always rather enjoyed Actual Reality.

AR has alot of potential. For example, when walking down the street and you're about to walk into the cafe for a quick bite, and recent reviews pop up discreetly to the left of your field of vision informing you of some recent food poisoning incidents. Or that person you glanced over at at the bus stop is a registered sex offender after matching his face to a database.
[doublepost=1476469132][/doublepost]Despite Cook's drama queen verbiage ("amplify human contact" everything is "profound" -- no cook, the Universe is profound, not products made in Chinese sweat shops ) I do look forward to when ar is practical and cheap. I am one of those Trek nerds that loves the Borg. ;)

No-one as yet has done a compelling case for AR - if it's done right, it's the UI for all of your tech. Your phone becomes a puck in your pocket (heh...or a badge on your lapel, if we get the battery tech to make it that small) - well...wireless charging will help.
No dashboard in your car. No controls on any of your appliances. With airpods in your ears, an optical overlay for your vision, you navigate with natural motion with your hands.

(me, I think we should be using nano-bots to create direct interfaces with the brain, but that'll take some serious marketing to fly) :)

Heh...and of course there will be the fun apps, like "mother in law" that puts a different comedy visual/audio "skin" on your least favourite relative(s) and one for your significant other (which will only get you in trouble if caught using it) ;)

the Apple Car again!
C - omputer
A - ugmented
R - eality

Oh thank God, I feared they might actually do something crazy and build a car, when all they did was to create CAR...
(red pill please).

I know this has nothing to do with the OP, but Ubiquiti already Amplifi'd the home router a million times better than Apple.

Very happy with this product. I wish Apple would get back to making insanely great products like this and the Nest thermostat.

hahahahahahahaha, AR and/or VR is profound, but not a single MBP or iMac is up to the task...Apple please first focus on getting an updates line of MacBooks, iMacs and MacPro's before even starting to think about something new.

Funny guy, this Mr Cook.

I am unsure of this negativity here. As others have said Apple is rarely the first out the blocks with new tech. However they release the most considered version.
For me, AR is everything moving forward and will be massive. VR good for immersive games or watching 'TV' with a headset, but AR offers more opportunity for a lot of fields.

Given the size of Apple I am sure they are capable of operating on many levels and how does anyone know on this board what they are and not developing.

The reactions are odd to say the least. This is exciting news and we still have nice phones, watches, computers etc. to compliment the tech.
The great thing about technology is that it is constantly evolving. AR has everything to do with the mac, as how is the content developed for the consumer?

What Apple Car fiasco? Do you know exactly what they are doing as I don't and no one else does. A 'fiasco' is releasing a product that isn't right. It takes balls to change a direction with a lot of investment already made and the fiasco you mention that may or may not have happened could generate a lot of money for you and your shares. Can you enlighten me what you know that would mean otherwise?

I agree though that Cook does come across a little indecisive and should keep his mouth shut or say with confidence the direction they are going in.

Personally I think Apple are in a great position still and have confidence in the company to deliver. For all the complaining on this site, I think the term 'computer' as we know it will die out soon and is purely technological progress.

Only in a great position as a mobile device maker, they focus only on iOS, phone toys (and the 7 is really not a big jump from the 6), and iPads (will never be a replacement for powerful platforms that need >6Gb GPUs)...anyway, look where this 'focus' left Nokia (once a leader) or Kodak....without innovation, leadership and a relentless focus on their customers needs they will face the same fate...just a matter of time

Ah, now I understand it!! They won't support VR-capable GPUs because AR is better!! Finally, it now makes sense! And much cheaper, you don't need a GPU at all!!

You forgot to mention the iPod. It was the first category to deviate from computers and a huge success.

I think Tim is keenly aware that the future success of Apple is dependent on creating "new categories". Those categories emerge as technology, price, and utility converge to a single point. It started with the PC with a graphical user interface and a mouse, it happened again for Apple with the iPhone, iPad, aTV, and the aWatch. Tim is grasping to predict the next category and seems to have his sights set on self driving cars, and augmented reality. The watch and Apple tv are good but not great. It seems that the incremental advancements they make have only to do with acquisitions, and the sheer volume with which they hire and spend. I have little faith in their future ability to really get anything right, and it's surprising that there are no immediate and drastic attempts made to revise mediocre products.

Good to see Apple is investing AG. There are few things I think need to be fixed before they launch a product:

- Batteries must last at least 24 hours.
- The product must look like ordinary glasses
- The product must be able to record and analyse video
- There should not be an on/off button and user should be authenticated by a retina scan

Preferably the product should work without an iPhone.

Don't worry about making 3D objects that you can manipulate in mid-air. Heck, the device doesn't even have to be color, but the glasses much be slick so people can use them all day. This is key. You control the user interface with gestures in the air. You don't necessary have to see a GUI. For instance, if you look at your wrist you will see the time, but it doesn't have to be projected on to your arm. You could see the temperature if you make the sign for it in sign language.

There must be apps, such as:

- Subtitles if you don't understand the language
- Teleprompter, if you are going to do a presentation.
- Show PIN-codes and password
- See the song you are listening to and forward to next song my sweeping hand in the air.
- Notifications
- Time
- See TV. movies or music videos
- Travel information, when does the next bus/train leave
- Create a business card (with picture) when you shake somebodies hand
- Wingman mode where friends can see live what you see
- Product information in stores, i.e. if the price is competitive, reviews, calorie count etc.
- Heart rate, how far you have walked etc
- Games
- Zoom
- Night vision
- Photos from where you look
- Reminders /calendar
- Sports coaching, i.e snooker, track golf ball, virtual caddy
etc.

But where is my new MBP?
I will get worse, looks like they are running in all directions, which means less resources for the product line that started all. Just see what a watch and bands did to the MBP refreshes and evolution, imagine what will happen later with cars, AR and more products we don't know we can't live without (according to Tim Cook). And they all run on software, advanced software that can't have as much flaws as the latest releases, I would be carefull with Apple products and services from now on.
