Regulations change. Isn’t it nice that I can fill up my car at any gas station in the world?
What does that have to do with it? Gas regulations are different everywhere.

And it has taken more than a decade to get where the EU is now on USB-C - you really think they will nimbly change it in the future? Is the EU known for nimbleness?

Ms. Vestager is known for knitting, particularly elephants, in staff meetings.
When she took her job in Brussels ..she left her successor as Danish economy minister a hand-knit elephant, and this message: “I have knitted a friend for you. It’s an elephant. Elephants are social, insightful animals. They live in communities — and I have to say it — they live in matriarchal societies. They bear no grudge, but they remember well.”

I think Amelio set the train wreck standard so high Tim isn't even in the same orbit lol
C’mon now, we all know that Mike “Diesel” Spindler has that award locked. His fetal position cowering collapse mirrored Apple’s share price collapse perfectly.

Don't even pretend to care about the impact on innovation when apple sat on lightning cables for a decade
Nothing wrong with lightning cables for phones. They handle enough current to charge fast, and they transfer data fast enough for what 99.9% of people use iphones for. They also are smaller connectors than usb-c, and the connectors don’t get loose over time.

And they’re going to innovate again in a year or two with their new solution. (Which will be wireless).

So I am not satisfied with Lightning's 480Mbps of data transfer...

Ok. Then you are in that .1 percent. The vast majority of people never plug their phones into anything other than power. The next biggest bunch are developers, who install apps via Xcode and the speed is good enough (and we often do it wirelessly nowadays anyway). Making everyone else have to switch cables for that tiny percentage who move data on and off their phones via the port hasn’t been worth it for apple yet. It has for the pro iPads. They use the best connector for the job.

I don’t see charging a phone wirelessly as wireless, wireless is WiFi/5G, that small gap does not deserve to be called wireless. It’s inductive charging, wireless is a Marketing Buzzword in this case. It’s just a way of attaching(instead of plugging) a cable to your phone. In other words, same/same with just a few benefits in situations e.g. in a car.

Anyway if USB-C is good enough for iPads and MacBooks, it also will be good iPhones. \o/ This will just make it harder for Apple to collect mafia money for MFi-Cert.

They sell 1TB iPhones and soon maybe 2TB iPhones.
The Backup of my current 128GB iPhone takes at least 20mins.

When I shoot ProRes RAW movies with the fancy new iPhone, how am I supposed to quickly get the data to my Macbook that has USB-C. It just makes sense. Wireless transfer is less reliable and relies on Apple technologies.

Exactly. Wireless charging is even more stupid than lightning charging.
It is slower, less efficient and yet it is more expensive for the consumer.
The Magnetic Charging Pad is ridiculously large and to be frank: it looks dumb.

When traveling, I would then need even more accessories.
That's what really drives me crazy. I have so many devices (computer, eInk device, camera, hövding bicycle airbag) and an iPhone. When I travel I only need one cable for everything else, only the iPhone needs something special.

Most people don’t backup to their computers. Again, you happen to be in the tiny percentage that do. But apple doesn’t modify their products for the tiny percentage.

I don't want to discuss about the numbers that I have no idea about. But I am doubting, that I am part of the 0,1% group. My employer for example wants us to backup the iPhones with iMazing on the Macs.

At the end of the day this discussion will get obsolete, when the EU mandates a non-propiertary access to the devices. It will be a good day for us consumers, when Apple's business will collapse in that regard.

I wonder who his successor is? Craig?
I know people in the US sees TV time as a more important skill than actual knowledge for important positions, but even though He is done playing James Bond, I am not sure he is the proper choice as Apples CEO. Could be fun to watch though!

If Berlin can do what they're doing with landlords, seems like any company there can be found in violation of an antitrust law.

You are surely aware that "Berlin" hasn’t done anything with landlords.

At least not yet.

Closest fit I can think of at the moment would be Jeff Williams, but given his age, I think he would also be more or less ready to retire by the time Tim Cook does step down (which probably isn’t anytime soon, given his recent stock grants, which suggest that the board is very satisfied with Tim Cook’s performance). Either way, I suspect it’s going to be someone who has experience with the operations side at Apple.

There may have been an argument for space saving when phones had touch ID, but keep in mind that iPad Pro with USB-C is slimmer than any iPhone ever made (second only to iPod Nano 7). If Lightning is so much better than USB-C, why is Apple so crappy at explaining what is better about it?
