99.9% of people also have usb c devices such as their macbooks, ipads, and any other random device made recently. Lightning is pure grift and even apple knows it but they decided to scam one more generation of lightning iphones requiring more cables and adapters despite their claims of caring about the environment which are pure marketing lies.

Odd...my Apple laptops have become better and much faster over the years. For example, my current laptop, an M1 MBA, is a joy to use, fast, outstanding battery life, lightweight, compact, and well-priced.

I still have an old Pismo PowerBook G3 laptop that weighs a ton, with a mediocre screen, short battery life, bulky, and slow. Why would I want to go back to the old days of Steve?
I agree they are bar non in advancements but when you no longer manufacture a laptop with the capabilities to upgrade ram or storage that’s a negative for me and consumer. Even the new iMacs are no longer upgradable. Don’t believe me check OWC.com for upgrades for the newer models

Because when the standards bodies approve USB-D, there's absolutely no way the EU would ever have a way to update their regulations. Since there's no way for manufacturers to petition the EU to do this, right?

How long have they been trying to decide on usb-c? It’s taken them 10 years to get this far. You think suddenly they will turn on a dime when someone proposes a new standard? Is the EU known for its rapid response to changing circumstances - I must have missed that.

And where are the new standards going to come from? Who is going to put the engineering R&D in, when they don’t know if a bunch of technologically-illiterate bureaucrats are going to approve it?

Oh I believe you. Simply specify the RAM and storage you need when placing an order for an Apple laptop. That's what I do and that has *always* served me well.

The good news is, if you're unhappy with Apple and their laptops, there are at least a dozen other manufacturers you can choose from. Simply vote with your wallet and find happiness. Easy.

Hopefully they will conform to the IEEE group because that’s where many standards come from unless you are intel or Apple and come up with your own. Sony played the VCR standards and lost the war. Apple tried with FireWire which was great over SCSi but not many Pc manufactures were not willing to pay royalties to Apple. Remember the modem days and how US Robotic would not communicate with Hayes until a standard advanced the industry?

If you are going to make up statistics, at least try to make make them believable.

Jobs would have made a terrible CEO of today‘s Apple. I could only imagine the temper tantrums he would have thrown over the various court battles and global regulatory climate. Entrepreneurs rarely make the transition to corporate culture. He had a good run and did better than most. Especially in his second act.
Your right. He did not have the patience with employees or skill of accounting but he was a visionary and gave people products the we only imagined in our heads prior. A brilliant man with many flaws but his passion in the products are not comparable to Mr Cook although I do respect him for protecting Apples bottom line.

The 3 trillion "progressive" bill is not solely about climate. I support fighting climate change. I don't support that bill.
That is BAD journalism from The Guardian, which is not surprised really when they're just full of agenda.

*Puts cyanide in a milkshake* ...Why don’t you like milkshakes? Everybody likes milkshakes….

Me. Cook did much, much more than protect Apples bottom line. (Btw to protect apples bottom line means that he directed apple to produce products people want to buy in droves, an understated cheivement) His visionary approach guaranteed apples success for years to come.

bectha The german tech ceo of whoever will complain to Cook about
his MacBook only running Mojave and can't get safari 15, but the latest iTunes
because that app vacuums his deutsche mark
i could type his comment in a essen-like dialect, but no one seems to like humor here.

Because it’s no longer soldered to the board. It‘s on the chip with the CPU, GPU and RAM. That’s not a regression. That’s progress.
Still a separate component soldered into the board instead of a plug in so the consumer no longer can upgrade. The M1 has the GPUs in the CPU which is something the industry will start doing more of

What’s so special about the IEEE? Most standards come from other places - LTE, 5G, USB, USB-C, etc.

There would be no modern Apple if it weren’t for Tim Cook. Cook has been there since Jobs was still running around calling himself “iCEO.” Jobs was a great idea guy and a goood marketer, but he sucked at running companies. Even before Jobs became sick, it was already apparent that Apple, the corporation, was outpacing Jobs’ ability to keep keep running it like it was his personal product lab. A lot of the Apple products and features we love today were actually ones Steve did not want to make and had to be convinced to allow them to exist. I can give Steve a lot of credit for doing a lot of genius things and having charisma that allowed him to punch well above his weight, but he was not a good CEO.

I would agree that Apple always had proprietary ports cables connectors. Anything to make consumers have to buy another Apple cable dongle or adapter.

There is no argument that a new laptop could be had for cheaper but why would you not upgrade the 16 gig ram or storage when you only have one shot at time of purchase?

Yes the original iPhone did that for me like your Apple Watch did for you but my iPhone 8 still works just fine why do I need a 13 to make a call or send a text?

I’m just pointing out that you are not being objective. Just because you personally have no use for the innovative features, doesn’t mean they are not there.

My 2016 had a failed battery less than 2 years of ownership. The 2017 Touch Bar failed and the 2018 keyboard failed yet my 2015 still is serving me well although Apple did recall the batter on that one. I love the Hdmi port and having standard usb and MagSafe on my 2015 instead of buying extra adapter for the newer models. Buy the way all 2016-2019 laptops are covered under the keyboard recall if you are experiencing sticky or unresponsive keys and it’s not liquid spill related
This is not 2016-2019. This is 2021.

I use my old 2011 MBA for 9 years and I haven’t upgraded any part. I upgraded my wife’s 2012 MBP from HDD to SSD but I wouldn't have to if she bought the SSD one from the beginning. She’s still using it today.

That’s good. The industry should. I think the sooner that people stop thinking of computers as collections of components the better. They don’t make cars like they used to in the ‘70s either and we have better, safer, and more reliable vehicles because of it.

Cue all the Tim Cook haters on this site. Some of you forget that Steve Jobs CHOSE Tim, it is who he wanted to run Apple. And most of you with the hate weren't around when real idiots ran Apple in the late 80's early 90's. You want Gil back? Sculley? Elon? Get over it
Steve made mistakes. He’s not Jesus

he’d be proud of what Tim has done to the company financially

he’d be equally ashamed of what Tim has done to the company culturally and in terms of software and design. Even with awesome cameras and silicon

maybe I am Steve since I know what he would think posthumously? Haha

you’re also forgetting Steve made that mistake before with mr CEO+president of PepsiCo “mr sugar water” … looked great at that time but look how that worked out.

this time doesn’t seem as it was a bad choice but then again maybe not so obvious.
