I know people in the US sees TV time as a more important skill than actual knowledge for important positions, but even though He is done playing James Bond, I am not sure he is the proper choice as Apples CEO. Could be fun to watch though!
My favourite post today 😄 In all seriousness, Federighi is a great presenter (which should be an inspiration to anyone who thinks they couldn’t do it - his first keynote presence was horrible. Whatever you suck at, do it more, then you’ll stop sucking). However, he’s not CEO material, he’s too deep in one area. CEO’s should be good in all areas, great in some, but not masters in any.

Can't wait for the day when he is gone from apple! Can't come soon enough. He's such a train wreck.

The same Tim Cook who is responsible for Apple having 1 billion active users, millions of repeat customers purchasing Apple products year after year after year, and propelling Apple to being one of the most successful companies in the world?

Yeah, such a train wreck.

Cue all the Tim Cook haters on this site. Some of you forget that Steve Jobs CHOSE Tim, it is who he wanted to run Apple. And most of you with the hate weren't around when real idiots ran Apple in the late 80's early 90's. You want Gil back? Sculley? Elon? Get over it
True but he is not Steve. Apple laptops have gone downhill. They are not upgradable and the products leave lots to be desired. Gone are the days of excitement from new products and computers that can be upgraded with memory or storage. A cheap iPad is a better investment since laptops are throw aways when you max out. My 2015 MacBook Pro has the capability to install a 4 TB drive for $600 or I can pay Apple $5000 for a new one with the same storage. Whatcha gonna do? He is a great CEO but the thrill is gone and so are the days of durable upgradable computer. Apple getting richer on the backs of the consumer. Keep buying and they will keep making computers that are not upgradable once purchased or parts for purchase to repair your broken Apple products. How is this helpful to the economy consumer and our environment and national security when you could not even get your iMac repaired at an Apple store because they were closed. I miss Steve and Apple is not the same company it once was.

You make the same mistake as many others, believing that if Steve was still there, everything would be exactly like it was the day he left. Steve would have evolved along with the company. I see zero evidence that Steve would have kept upgradability, in fact having the customer open up his computer seems very un-Steve to me. Apple had plenty of proprietary and closed technology developed under Steve Jobs.

And your price comparison is misleading. Upgrading your 2015 Macbook to 4TB still makes it a 2015 Macbook. A new baseline 16” with 4TB will be a much faster computer, at 3600$. Just because you can spec out one at 5000 doesn’t make it a fair comparison to upgrading your old one. That’s still a noticeable difference from 600, but a misrepresentation nonetheless.

I also happen to disagree that the products are less exciting. You’re just being nostalgic, and compressing memory. People still seem to think the Apple Watch for instance is boring. For me, it was life changing.

Odd...my Apple laptops have become better and much faster over the years. For example, my current laptop, an M1 MBA, is a joy to use, fast, outstanding battery life, lightweight, compact, and well-priced.

I still have an old Pismo PowerBook G3 laptop that weighs a ton, with a mediocre screen, short battery life, bulky, and slow. Why would I want to go back to the old days of Steve?

[…]/ This will just make it harder for Apple to collect mafia money for MFi-Cert.
If I had to guess it will be years before that revenue dissipates. Or do you begrudge the Bluetooth group $50,000 for a dev kit as well? Bluetooth is every bit as proprietary…try implementing your own to find out.

I don’t think so. I really enjoy the yearly reveal.

It depends on what the use case is I suppose.
[…]. Apple getting richer on the backs of the consumer.
Whatever does this mean? Apple doesn’t force anyone to buy their products,
[…]. I miss Steve and Apple is not the same company it once was.
I understand the missing Steve, but it’s a positive that Apple isn’t the same company.

They sell 1TB iPhones and soon maybe 2TB iPhones.
The Backup of my current 128GB iPhone takes at least 20mins.

When I shoot ProRes RAW movies with the fancy new iPhone, how am I supposed to quickly get the data to my Macbook that has USB-C. It just makes sense. Wireless transfer is less reliable and relies on Apple technologies.
There is probably no reason why Apple could not make lightning work at faster speeds. I do believe lightning on the 12.9 inch iPad Pros (gen 1 and 2) used USB 3 controllers. Likewise, they could very easily give you a USB-C port and limit you to USB 2 speeds.

Steve always wanted computers to be sealed appliances with it no expansion slots and as few ports and necessary. He literally introduced the MacBook Air as the future of notebooks which embraced all of these attributes.

Jobs would have made a terrible CEO of today‘s Apple. I could only imagine the temper tantrums he would have thrown over the various court battles and global regulatory climate. Entrepreneurs rarely make the transition to corporate culture. He had a good run and did better than most. Especially in his second act.

Might be nice, but first apple would actually have to violate some anti trust law.
There is a monopoly on Apple displays and parts. Try buying a new display for your laptop that cracked upon a small impact or because the glass coating is delaminating. Options are only within Apples network to pay labor for a screen that I want to repair on my own. Auto parts industry will become similar with all the electronic components in the electric car

The MacBook Air original had a tiny spinning drive that was removable. The newer Air up till recent had a slot for the SSD and are upgradable. Why solder the drive on the new model?

Most people don’t backup to their computers. Again, you happen to be in the tiny percentage that do. But apple doesn’t modify their products for the tiny percentage.
I spend $9.99 a month with Apple iCloud to back up my phone problem solved.

Because it’s no longer soldered to the board. It‘s on the chip with the CPU, GPU and RAM. That’s not a regression. That’s progress.

I would agree that Apple always had proprietary ports cables connectors. Anything to make consumers have to buy another Apple cable dongle or adapter.

There is no argument that a new laptop could be had for cheaper but why would you not upgrade the 16 gig ram or storage when you only have one shot at time of purchase?

Yes the original iPhone did that for me like your Apple Watch did for you but my iPhone 8 still works just fine why do I need a 13 to make a call or send a text?

Not true.
My 2016 had a failed battery less than 2 years of ownership. The 2017 Touch Bar failed and the 2018 keyboard failed yet my 2015 still is serving me well although Apple did recall the batter on that one. I love the Hdmi port and having standard usb and MagSafe on my 2015 instead of buying extra adapter for the newer models. Buy the way all 2016-2019 laptops are covered under the keyboard recall if you are experiencing sticky or unresponsive keys and it’s not liquid spill related

I don't want to discuss about the numbers that I have no idea about. But I am doubting, that I am part of the 0,1% group. My employer for example wants us to backup the iPhones with iMazing on the Macs.

At the end of the day this discussion will get obsolete, when the EU mandates a non-propiertary access to the devices. It will be a good day for us consumers, when Apple's business will collapse in that regard.
if your reasoning that you are not in the 0.1% group is an employer that is using imazing with macs, you are right. You are in the 0.001% group.
