I don't know about others, but this is the lamest upgrade that I've seen as far as iPhone is concerned..

So, bigger screen and payment (NFC + Touch ID) is the greatest innovations that Apple has ever produced?

I just don't see the wow factor. Bigger screen.. Duh.. When was it that we see phones with 4.7 and above? Is that even an innovation????

I praise apple for tying NFC + Touch ID for easier payment.. But can't you do that with 5s? Is this really an innovation that is worth upgrading to 6 for?

CPU is now little faster.. The battery lasts 1 hr longer.......

Okay.. What else is there that is really so innovative?

Maybe we reached the point where the eye opening innovation is no longer possible with Phones, but man... Mr. Tim sounds so silly with such statements where there is nothing to back his statements.

He's pretty good with the bull though. I could smell it from 5,081 miles away.

I'm so proud of Apple for creating these amazing products. Apple exceeded expectations in every possible way with their announcements today. Tim Cook has silenced all his doubters.

But they announced not one but two larger iPhones and you said they wouldn't make a bigger phone.

Especially in being cross-platform. Being able to create an Office Doc online, move to a PC, or a Mac, or an iOS, or an Android device and seeing it there . . . . . I'll miss that.

All in all, a modest update from Apple that shows (to me) that they can take a freaking hint. Bigger phones, NFC, and a gimmicks. The watch . . . . ???? sure I guess. I'm standing with a lot of people on that one. I don't need ANOTHER device to carry with me and charge and keep track of and almost force myself to use.

I'm rambling, sorry.

Agreed that MS really seem to be getting the hardware/software thing - much more than you'd think - more than Apple frankly in some areas. And I'll get shot for saying this but I _like_ Windows 8 .. the metro interface is clever. The tile apps need more support/work but it's incredibly smart to have all your OS front ends look familiar across devices and tuck the power user stuff away (one click away, or less in 8.1) for those who want that.

I thought Google might get in on this too with their hardware company purchases but not a lot so far - wasted opportunity IMO.

The iPad is possibly the largest dissapointment to me. MS have managed to get a bull blown OS into an (albeit slightly large) tablet and it's a true laptop/desktop replacement. That is amazing, and the kind of thing Apple should do. 12" iPad Pro with full OS X - yes please and I'm sure I'm not alone.

----------

Still, I think Apple is losing the cerebral, austere design language and the innovative attitude big time. For god's sake, gold iPhones and watches? Chrome bling bling ring around the home button?

..their target market has changed. The countries with the largest rewards are full of millions of customers who love gold, bling and tacky (to me) emoticons. That is clearly where their focus is at. The Chinese woman translating the keynote for the first 20mins was no accident :)

I got it totally wrong. I also said I didn't want to buy a phablet - pretty much ever. But the amazing innovation Apple has packed into the iPhone 6+ means I'm buying one. Apple has built the first usable large screen smartphone, and this is why they were right to wait. They needed time to perfect the experience just like they are doing with the Apple Watch.

Are you joking? HTC is barely clinging to life, and Samsung's profits are declining quickly and will continue to do so.

I think most impartial tech pundits would tell you the HTC M8 is a better phone all round than the iPhone.

Note I did say impartial - I'm not talking about all the 'experts' in this thread.

I've read this post three times now simply to make me smile.

Would you mind if I use it to demonstrate the perversity of the human condition?

I thought the quote above from dumastudetto was sarcastic, don't you think?

And how it the first useable large screen phone?

Totally agree and totally with you on all counts. I'll keep this one short.

Indeed the market has changed, and it's why I am more proud about Apple not kicking against the pricks and taking a market hint. That folks want diversity in hardware selection and not everyone uses their devices the same way.

Also agree about Metro. It was the first thing I fell in love with when I got the Venue 8 Pro. Being able to plug a tablet into a 24" display and have Metro on one screen and Classic Windows on the other and use the two independently. . . . . . What power user wouldn't want that.

Apple has built the first usable large screen smartphone, and this is why they were right to wait. They needed time to perfect the experience

This is utter nonsense and just plain wrong. Not even in anecdotal evidence could you prove this statement. Why make it?

We're on the 4th iteration of a VERY successful string of phablets from Samsung. A product line so successful that it sprung up a new classification of device . . . . . called the phablet . . . . .and in which every other smartphone maker including Apple had to jump into at the last minute.

NO way you really mean that at all. I just can't believe that you REALLY mean that with all sincerity.

I don't even want to dig deeper into the fact that Apple took four features from Samsung to even make the 6 Plus useable.

And how it the first useable large screen phone?

I really do hope dumastudetto clarifies that for us. I seriously believe there might be a good reason . . . . but I don't know . . . . I can't even make things up to support such a statement.

only has one competitor.

As far as Apple :apple: vs. Android, the reason why Apple 'wins' above all the Android phones put together is because Apple is only competing against one major competitor: themselves. That is what makes the Apple experience so refined and valuable. Apple is not quick to jump on the new gimmicky features that various Android phones randomly pop out. Instead, Apple finds a reason for that feature and if it is worth their time and effort, they find a way to seamlessly integrate that feature into their already established smooth iOS. The Android experience is like a wooden roller-coaster with flashy new cameras taped onto the backs of seats with duct-tape. Yeah, that's accurate.

(I know I'm using 'Android' as a term for all other phones, but it's just the easiest way to communicate, because truly, no single android phone brand or product stands out above the other. They are all equally mediocre in experience.)

If Apple was a person, Apple would be the girl that is exceedingly smart and graceful, but only a select group of people with taste would understand her. Android would be a college freshman who gets a little to drunk and strips for people, so Android would get more attention occasionally. Yet, the people who are intelligent, however, would understand the beauty in Apple's long-term relationship mentality vs. Android's one night stand attitude.

Also, I would like to point out that no one needs more than 8 MP on a camera phone. You can take a well-lit picture from an 8 MP camera and blow it up the size of a poster without losing quality. Also, for storage reasons, 8 MP make more sense. The need for any more megapixels would come from people who do not know anything about MP and therefore, would go "Oh, 20 is more than 8, so the camera must be better." Well, yes, in a way, but unnecessarily so. I used a professional camera with 12 MP to take a picture for a billboard. It was a great quality. Your Instagram, Facebook, phone screen, and printing needs require no more MP than 8. Also, lower aperture and the lens glass used all make a quality camera. End rant.

Also, though NFC payment methods have been around for awhile with Android, it has not yet become a replacement method for wallets. Why? Poor security on (insert random Android product here) the android system and every business is not going to put in a NFC payment method until there is widespread use of the system. That's the power that I think Apple has over Android. Between all the Android devices with NFC, there are only a few select businesses that utilize that feature. I think what Apple gets on board with, businesses will be more likely to get on board as well. If there is any chance of someone making a wallet-less wallet a widely used feature, I think it is Apple.

Part of the reason Apple is so successful in their endeavors is advertising. Every single person who has heard of the iPhone 6 has probably at least heard the words Apple Pay, or will soon enough. Out of all the android phones, based on advertising alone, I would not know about NFC or what it means or what it could do and what phones even had the feature or how to access the feature, etc. Android is like a stack of papers thrown on a desk. They may have all the features, but they do not have clarity or articulation. Apple is a leather bound book. With proper margins and spacing. A much more enjoyable reading experience.

As far as screen size, people are being ridiculous when they claim a 4.7" screen is too big. A 4.7" screen only feels large until you hold it in your hand and get used to it for a day or two. Then it feels like all phone screens have always been that large. For the most part, size is only relative to your previous experience--which will be but a fleeting memory as soon as it is replaced with a smooth new iPhone 6.

When you buy Apple, you are buying into a brand. Apple has established themselves as loyal, brilliant, consistent and elegant. Until someone becomes a leader in the Android world-someone who consistently produces a phone that everyone is excited about getting their hands on-then Apple will hold the power, and rightfully so.

Personally, I cannot wait to match my iPhone 6 Plus to the Apple Watch when it comes out. Then we (my iPhone, Apple Watch, and my MacBook Pro) will all go to Starbucks and happily work seamlessly together. And they lived happily ever after.

To save everyone the time I've truncated the verbosity of this post down to two sentences.

1) I don't fully understand everything about the cellphone and technology industry because I've only experienced it unbiasedly from the Apple perspective.

2) Here's a bunch of anecdotal and personal, narrow perspective driven evidence to support it.

Seriously though, it's hard to even think that someone would actually try to rationalize such a statement given the abundance of evidence that Apple is indeed in competition with a host of other companies that work in a plethora of varied industries.

I take all of this back if your post was meant to be sarcastic atmymac.

Spot on.

Studies have shown that iPhone users are better looking than Android users.

Fact.

In Reply, Digital Skunk (thats not an insult, by the way)

1) I recently had the Samsung Galaxy 3 as well as a Nexus 7 tablet and have experienced lots of other Android phones, including several LG phones and the HTC One from other people in my life. I also have owned many a PC and respect the ideology that people who use PCs typically have, though for my personal use, I do choose Mac. However, I have a full grasp onto why you wouldn't. Also, I don't claim know everything about the cellphone industry, neither should anyone here.

2) I like verbosity, and, most likely, as the rest of the people who choose to post on this forum, a little controversy and name calling is something I perhaps thrive on. Analogies are fun. Stories and exaggerated personal experience are what drive culture, not statistics and evidence.

Personally, I have been so freaking PISSED at Apple for their arrogance (and lack of reason to be) for the past few years. However, as we all know, opinions and statistics change by the minute.

Which is true.

I've been an Android user for some time now, and am going to be getting that 6 Plus.

Thanks for not taking my comment too seriously. ;)

A rule to live by.

“Never knowingly be serious. Rule 27.” :)

I'm also getting the 6 Plus. What a consumeristic world we live in.

I secretly love it.

People ask me why I'm getting it. They say it's just the Note 2 in iPhone form.

I let them know that I own the Note 2 now, and I never found anything wrong with it. The Note 3 and 4 are nice, but not worth upgrading to if you have the 2.

Now, being apple to run iOS and some apps in tablet orientation. Not to mention going back to the one ecosystem lifestyle I love . . . . yeah, that worth it. And I don't even have to sacrifice screen size.
