Why no mention anywhere of the amount of RAM in iPhone 6. I don't see anything about RAM on the tech specs

I take this to mean it's still 1 GB. Are you OUT OF YOUR MIND, Apple!!!

----------

So, what's the general consensus? Is iPhone 6 really with the times or is it time to jump ship?

My assumptions are that the Apple processors are designed to reduce the need for more RAM, and that if enough developers came back to Apple and said that 1 GB was no longer sufficient for making newer versions of their apps run smoothly, Apple would increase the RAM. Somehow, 1 GB appears to be enough for the phones to run very well and for the apps to do the same.

Apple was beating then just fine at 4", with revenue and profits that exceed every Android vendor on Earth put together. Now, Apple is ready to annihilate the high end of the Android market. By this time next year, the most expensive Android you can get will be $300 and will run an obsolete version of Android on obsolete hardware. There just aren't going to be enough die-hard fandroids to keep the $500 flagship Android phones alive. Most people bought Android for size or price, now it will just be the latter.

Maybe do a little research first, eh? The iPhones have been considered high for awhile now and the Samsung and HTC phones compete just fine.

My now almost three year old galaxy nexus (close to the same age as the 4S) runs the latest 4.4.4 KitKat OS just fine with CyanogenMod. It also had practically the same size screen and RAM as the iPhone 6 three years later.

All while rocking grandfathered Verizon unlimited data..

I think with this new "hand off" feature we're eventually going to get there. I mean, it'd also solve the problem of not having enough storage on these devices.

I'm not so confident about that. As far as I understand "hand off" is only designed to enhance connectivity between devices registered under the same account. Wouldn't cover the use case I described (and many others I can think of). Well, time will tell.

Can you browse your Calibre library from your iPad using Calibre Companion or a similar App? Or do you have to send over a book at a time using iTunes sync? iBooks is an abomination, it takes your ebooks, cryptically renames them, and buries them in the user library. Whoever designed iBooks should be shot and buried under the foundation of the new Apple HQ.

I browse my Calibre library for books, and I also regularly send over a few hundred PDFs organized in a hierarchical file structure. To my knowledge, both are impossible on an iPad, or at least an order of magnitude more complicated than with Android.

That's also not cool that it forces you to use Stanza rather than the built in reader. Does Stanza have a dictionary?

Stanza is not a Apple app, its just one that is convenient. I can just browse a catalog I've created on Calibre (essentially a web server interface) and import whatever book I want into the software. This is essentially seemingly the same process you use to import books. There's probably other app that do exactly the same, but I've been using this one for 4 years.

Apps are just as great as they are on iPhone. Very little difference
As someone who has owned 3 Android phones in the past 4 years, I can say that is absolutely false. Android and Google don't have a 10th of the apps that I have on my iPhone now. And when a developer for a game, website, or anything else develop an app, it's primary development is under the the iPhone and usually released on the App Store first.

Keep Calm and Buy what you Want!

If you are happy with Android/IOS/Windows just keep them and move along folks!

There are billions of people and you cannot convince that many of them with your own thoughts and decisions.

This has become like a religion from middle ages. Some folks from one always looking to convert people from other religions to theirs. :)

As long as IOS and Android have sizable customers and generates enough revenue for their respective companies, they will co-exist.

I'm sorry but no,The only apps that take alot longer on android are high profile games and TV apps such as sky go and iplayer.

Apart from that? All the main apps I could get on IOS are on my android.

do apps come out first on IOS? yeah sure I agree with that but generally it doesn't take long for them to appear in android. Only ones that take time are the kind of high profile apps. There isn't an app out there that i'm waiting to come out on android.

think it's 1GM of ram on 4.7 and hopefully 2GB on 5.5.

That's cool, I didn't know about that. But once imported, what do you use to read the books? Only Stanza? Does it have a dictionary?

a) my first sentence says that I wish that they had upgraded it. You're aware of that, right? No need to lecture me about how it's not enough.

b) I said that other people - including developers - have pointed this out and it is plausible, imo. Apple supports their older phones for a long time. They may be wanting to weed out the users who are on the really old phones - the 4 and 4s - so that most of their users are on the 5 range and have better processors and better efficiency.

Why do you say 3-4? Most Android phones come with 2, with an upgrade to 3 in the 32GB model. I couldn't find a single one with 4... With Apple's efficiencies and their processors I think 2 would be perfect.

I say 3-4 GB because Apple should be better than Android phones, and because Apple needs that much in the iPad, which they tend to fit with the same SoC as the iPhones.

Still only 1 gig of ram???

What a joke. This looks exactly like a samsung but with only 1 gig of ram. Nothing new here.

No it isn't.

Yes they do.

No, it isn't.

Just stop. The arrogance and ignorance is showing.

 No. It would not. It would be a clunky, non-solution. You want clunky non-solutions? There are WiFI SD readers that you can carry around and expand your collection indefinitely. How convenient!

No of course not, what they should do is continue to innovate and force the hand of telecoms to UP THEIR GAME. Not race to bottom.

So Apple is always right, I see. If you think iTunes isn't a mess, you've drunk the kool aid.

As for providing workarounds for those with bandwidth caps, it's not a binary choice, Apple can do both. The fact is that once Apple began developing iCloud, they left the iTunes sync interface to stagnate.

i am with you on those points indeed. The only reason I would ever make the switch to iOS on a phone is to get most of what I get in a Note 2 in an iPhone.

Since the 6 Plus is essentially an Apple version of a Note 2 I am satisfied to make the jump back over to iOS.

I will miss Android greatly, especially since my wife has a SGS5 . . . . and it FEELS great. Swift and capable. I just use iWork, iTunes, and some iOS specific apps too much. We'll see. Nothing stopping me from getting a SGNote Edge or something in the future.

And yes, I was desperately looking for a Windows Phone on Sprint, but the only one they had was a joke. None of the Lumias, and not the big dumb Lumia phone that I wanted, which is only on AT&T I think. The ecosystem issues with Windows have improved so much that I dare say they trump Apple's in some regards. Not as smooth in some areas, but outrageously functional in others.

Especially in being cross-platform. Being able to create an Office Doc online, move to a PC, or a Mac, or an iOS, or an Android device and seeing it there . . . . . I'll miss that.

The pen input and multiscreen . . . I'll miss that too. The iPad mini surprised me. I had given up on using the iPad for productivity, but I'd blame my using it again more on the 3rd party apps. iOS is just too basic for tablets these days, and devs seem to be doing all of the heavy lifting where Apple falls short. I wouldn't have even considered the 6 Plus if it couldn't run at least some tablet optimized apps.

All in all, a modest update from Apple that shows (to me) that they can take a freaking hint. Bigger phones, NFC, and a gimmicks. The watch . . . . ???? sure I guess. I'm standing with a lot of people on that one. I don't need ANOTHER device to carry with me and charge and keep track of and almost force myself to use.

I'm rambling, sorry.

I think it's pretty strange that Tim Cook is continuing to intentionally reduce Apple's cachet by transforming what was once a solidly upper middle class brand into a brand that "sells" free plastic phones and phablets, a device specification reserved for the poor in both the 3rd World and Western nations.

Phablets are great for the poor, across the board, because one device can be used for multiple purposes; those with money can afford specialized devices to serve particular use cases. In the U.S., phablets are also a boon for the poor because most of them are obese and have trouble using their fat, greasy sausage fingers on a reasonably sized screen. For the American poor/obese, carrying such a large device around isn't problematic because they buy gigantic clothing with gigantic pockets; those with money tend to be in better health and to wear stylishly form fitting clothing that obviously is not accented with pockets larger than one's hands.

And I don't know who that watch is targeted at because the only people who still wear watches in any significant numbers are wealthy people who wear very expensive watches and they will not be trading them in for a novelty that only functions as a parasite to a huge phone made for huge poor people.

This just seems like another misstep in a staggering path of them for Cook and I'll be curious to see if the board forces him out in time to turn things around for the company.

Wow, I did not realize how big the plus will be! Check it out on phonearena.com

That thing is massive for real. Coming from a Note 3 myself, I can tell you all the length of the Note is just about at max for even fitting in pockets of loose fitting man's jeans. The iPhone 6+ is gonna push that threashold.

LCD vs AMOLED?

The AMOLED on the Galaxy phones is so much brighter and richer color than on my iPhone 4. Why does Apple continue with LCD on the iPhone 6?

Why, why, why cannot they keep a 4" version?!!!!!!! 4.7" is way too big, it's VERY UGLY in the pocket.

It's a shame there's not more people like you who share the same opinion as myself as the forums here are too full of hardcore fanatics like proline who can't seem to accept that it's possible to like Apple products as well as Android products and Windows Phones.

I wouldn't be surprised if comments from the likes of proline actually end up driving people away from buying a iPhone and instead a potential customer ends up buying a Android phone or a Windows Phone.

My upgrade to a 6 from my 4s was a sure thing right up until the 6 was released.
Larger screens again? Seriously? Can't I just have a really nice phone that fits easily in my hand and pocket?
I didn't care so much for the 5s size increase and I really don't care for the 6 and the 6+ just seems comically large.

You can get a 5S for cheap now.

That's about the first bit of common sense I've read on this or any other forum for a long long time.

I have a number of Apple products, indeed I have spent quite a lot of money acquiring them. I also own Android products as well as Windows and they all happily co-exist together.

I have however started to question whether to buy any more Apple products in the future. The reason for that is exactly as you state i.e. because of Apple zealots. I'm becoming increasingly embarrassed to mention Apple products to people because of the reputation their followers are getting. Things like their fans are all nut jobs, they shout you down if you mention any rivals products.

Perhaps that sort of thing is all well and good in the playground but not so good when ones in business.

Might be back ...

I skipped the iPhone five because it is so bloody ugly that I think Jobs would never have signed it off. Smallish screen, big bezel ... As ugly as a Samsung. I'm on HTC One now. Still think the design is much better than the iP6 and the successor is of even better design. But. Android is finicky, gets in the way all the time, messes up my experience without even asking and I'm not too happy with the Google eco-system either. So I'm considering upgrading next year to (by then) iPhone 6s. Especially if they supply it in titanium black, like that watch. Still, I think Apple is losing the cerebral, austere design language and the innovative attitude big time. For god's sake, gold iPhones and watches? Chrome bling bling ring around the home button? I don't care about memory, streaming is king and 16G is enough unless you live in the bush. But where's the OLED saphire screen? Why isn't it bent around the corners? Why isn't it waterproof? Why is wireless charging not wireless? Apple has a brand and a price obligation to make things perfect. Anything less won't do. I'll see what I do next year... But this is way way better than the iPhone 5, which made me leave iPhone.
