I'm sorry, but Tim Cook is a lier. Back in 2013, Tim Cook specifically said that Apple will be introducing new products and product categories "across 2014." That quote should've meant that Apple has prepaid a set of new products that they were ready to introduce throughout 2014. However, here we are, in the second quarter of the year, and nothing new from Apple. Today's comment seems to be a confirmation that they still aren't ready to show us the new stuff by WWDC in June.

Seems like 2014 will be the exact same strategy for Apple as the years before; release every product you have within a month or two.

And I'm sorry, but your definition of a liar is the same as those who call a politician a liar for not living up to his promises. Lying requires an intent to deceive, which you cannot prove.

Across 2014 also does not necessarily mean "every quarter". You could see something launch in June, for instance, then another in September, then again in November...and that would be across 2014.

Why is this a problem? Everyone gets worked up that Tim Cook hasn't "revolutionized" an industry yet, but Steve Jobs gets a pass. How many years between Jobs revolutions? Not like he was releasing a new product every day before breakfast...

Agree. Face time also comes to mind as an amazingly well executed feature.
Yes FaceTime is great, I love it. And it was indeed well executed until some dumbo at Apple decided to kill support for iOS6 users.
Not good. For various reasons...

blah blah blah. He's been saying the exact same thing since he took over as CEO. When are we going to see these products. It's definitely gone downhill and I've seen no real innovation recently.

"No real innovation"...aside from dual-core 64 bit processor, A7 motion chip, MacPro cooling system, Retina...aside from all that, no innovation at all. As we know, Jobs released innovations daily...

But, but, Apple Maps.
Yeah, welcome to 2014. Your "joke" about Maps is now 3 years old. Not like Google is EVER incorrect in the Map Arena, except for directions to their own offices in San Francisco (telling you to turn onto a one-way street, the wrong way). Directions that Apple got correct.

I sure hope that what tim is really saying is "we put a lot of time into the iWatch and you will really enjoy it later THIS year."

Not everybody. It's true that Steve didn't serve up revolution for breakfast, but he seemingly persuaded a lot of people he was doing just that, so now they have rosy memories of stuff that never actually happened. For better or worse, nobody will ever be Steve Jobs. All that said, I think Apple has to work faster now than they did in Steve's day, and they also should be less secretive about what's coming. The market has changed a lot in the last few years and Apple should change along with it -- and not to be more like it was under Steve Jobs. Those days are gone.

That's nice and all, but in the time between Apple product debuts, some of us still have device desires that need scratching :)

With no Apple device to choose from, we'll continue buying the other "rushed out" gizmos, that at least are available. I.e. although it was great when Apple brought out the iPhone, I don't regret at all enjoying a smartphone for years beforehand. Ditto right now for smartwatches.

Heck, Apple also has to appreciate the feedback they see from early device buyers of other brands. It's getting the results of a mass product feature survey, but far more realistic, and for free!

I agree completely with what you said, and in fact I think watching other companies throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks is at least part of the reason why Apple waits. And my first mp3 player, tablet, and smartphones were all non-Apple. But they all are now, because taking their time to really see the market means Apple’s products are almost always far superior to other stuff that’s out there.

You weren’t really clear about saying whether or not you thought Apple should release faster. But I don’t think they should. I’m perfectly happy to buy gadgets to play around with that aren’t Apple’s until Apple releases something I think is better. That wait usually just means that much better experience when I finally get theirs.

iOS 7 has been the most exciting release in a long time for me. And I love it. If you let it... will grow on you. Problem is people a lot of times refuse to accept change, even if it's for the better. They immediately discredit it for garbage.

I love iOS 7 too but the previous poster you replied to was right. Apple did not wait to get it "right" before releasing it. iOS 7 was full of tons of bugs and unfinished design elements for months after release. It was a move that was clearly rushed and not typical of apple.

Getting it right first, like Maps, iOS7, and iPhone 5C?
Time to take a good, hard look in the mirror, Tim!

Yep that's what he means! He sacked Scot F for the short coming in maps... He won't be seen to allow things to be released before they are ready moving forward... No hard looking in mirrors required

Or...you could just stick with what you have until Apple release a new version/product? You don't HAVE to and probably don't need to go and get those other products from those other companies. Your iPhone will see you over until Apple releases the next iPhone.

That statement is fascinating to me and part of why I enjoy coming to MR. I get a glimpse of a mentality that is beyond my comprehension. I enjoy tech for tech's sake. Both my iPad and MBA are ~3 years old. In that interim, I have purchased tons of tech products from multiple vendors. Some cheap - spent $100 on Fire TV, some not so cheap - $2800 on a Falcon NW Fragbox. Never in that time frame have I ever thought to delay a purchase because Apple might have something to offer in the future.

I understand passions. I'm passionate about old Ford's and new Audi's. It's just cool and weird see to that passion displayed about a consumer tech company.
Cool when you can hear the pride about an Apple product done right or the disappointment when Apple does something wrong. Weird when you hear the very vocal minority who, regardless of... I'm not gonna go there. The weird ones don't deserve mention.

In case you're wondering, you definitely don't fall into the weird group.

If it means more to get it right, then why does iOS7 suck so bad? wake up cook!

Sometimes these forums make me think that I am the only person that actually liked iOS 7 better than 6. Then I go and talk to everyone I know who has an iDevice, and remember that the internet is rarely representative.

Of course Apple isn't going to announce new products on a quarterly conference call!

What are you expecting? Tim to say "and one more thing" after announcing the Quarterly Results?

Apple's going to release new stuff on a stage not on a freaking phone call lol.

are you implying apple products are only better than 4 years old products of other companies?

I'm implying that most people don't update their products every year. So hypothetically if you had products from 2010/2011 and someone blessed you with the new lineup you would NOT complain.

People are taking this quote about getting it right first the wrong way.

He's not saying they never make mistakes, he's referring to an ideology. I'm sure he would admit that they don't always hit the mark, but it is what they strive for, which is in contrast to the way a lot of other companies operate.

I fill my time between Apple product releases by buying old Apple products on ebay I never got a chance to use new. Which catagory does that fall under?

In the interest of full disclosure, I have never and probably will never pay more than $60 for what is essentially an outdated computer. I’m not that stupid.

Is that really necessary? Name one company that gets it 100% right every time? How many cars did GM and Toyota recall in the past few years? At least when IOS 7 came out, no one died because of it.

Getting tired of Cook reiterating the same thing at every conference call. Apple has gotten hundreds of new patents in the last four years and few if any have ever made it into an Apple product

But people are clamoring for nothing. People just want new products, but what product SPECIFICALLY do you want? People just want something new for the heck of it. Enjoy what you have. Obviously Apple is going to have some amazing releases in the second half of 2014.

Totally agree with you — Enjoy what you have, do something creative yourself, innovate in what you do personally... Apple has always been a creative company for creative people. Sick of hearing people picking fault, computers are tools for solving problems and i devices are simply an extension of that.

Start using the tech to it's full potential, go teach yourself that app or start that project you dream of completing.

Enjoy the now!
