You mean he was a decent guy that didn't try and dictate people did with their private lives by insisting it be outlawed?

People who are agnostic or atheistic understand why people choose religion because they had to make the same exact choices before reaching their conclusion. Understanding doesn't mean empathizing.

I don't advocate anyone's lifestyle being outlawed but that includes mine, which happens to be a non religious beleiver of something beyond the explanation of the physical.

Stupid people will argue about it on macrumors.com endlessly. Some will defend me and some will condemn me. All of them will be wrong.

When you make stupid comments, you should expect people to argue of your stupid comments.

Yep, I have said I am not arguing against that. Just don't force the redefinition of marriage. Call it something else and we should as a society treat them exactly the same, not discrimination, nothing different except it is NOT "Marriage" by definition.

We should treat a man and woman the same, equal, and not discriminate whatsoever. But we should not call a woman and man or vice versa. They have a definition that distinguishes their differences.

Just being curious - what is your very own personal consequence in all this, I mean it's pretty obvious that in a few years gay marriage will be established throughout the US, in other countries gay marriage has been established for a decade or more. So really, you cannot do a thing to stop it and your "don't change the definition!!!!!" is completely irrelevant. Your definition of marriage "men and woman only" will be false from a legal standpoint. What are you going to do?

I'm straying from Jesus if I read while driving? Really?

I'm a devout follower of Christ and I've never come across that scripture. Weird.

Im sure if Jesus could drive, he wouldn't let stupid distractions of reading a forum get in the way of potentially hurting someone else.

No, you're straying based on the **** you've posted in this thread.

Cue the Samsung advertising company....

Considering Samsungs lousy advertising... I can't wait for the "Do you really want to buy a phone from a (insert derogatory slur here) ad to hit the web tomorrow. Later they will apologize saying it was a language misunderstanding thing.

I don't think you're getting the "why he's doing this" part.

This isn't about showcasing one's private life, this isn't about trying to become a Kardashian to make money by exposing every sordid detail of your personal life, this is about using one's very prominent position to set an example for those who believe you cannot be openly gay and lead a successful professional life - you know, like kids who are raised to believe that being gay is not normal.

This. :) Reading the article he showecases how Tim believes in equality. This isn't about necessary coming out and telling everyone about his own sexuality. He's highlighting the need for equality in the human race. Its about showing those who struggle, and who are not openly gay and fear that it's not right to come out.

Totally agree 100%.
Good for Tim.

You're perfectly allowed to be a proud to be Christian/Jewish/Buddhist/Muslim/...

But you're also allowed to be proud to be gay.

That's was exactly my point with my original post. If you're gonna be diverse, the tolerate everyone. We seem to agree on that, we just got side tracked!!

You know the sad thing? That this is on PRSI.
If Tim Cook said "I'm getting married to a woman" that would be front page news and not in PRSI. It seems this forum is totally going against the equality Tim Cook is asking for.

Exactly my point. If he said I'm proud to be (anything but) gay, this would not be in PRSI. But because of the word gay, It's in PRSI.

How hard is it to understand that being gay deserves the same treatment as being straight does? The only judgement on this issue should be done by God (Or St Peter if you're Catholic). I'm very disappointed in MacRumors about this. I hope one day Macrumors one day really take Tim's message to heart and treat the whole gay issue with equal as Tim Cook would like. But I don't this happening anytime soon unfortunately.

Does anyone know why MacRumors discriminates against the whole gay issue? I have asked them before they they just avoided to give a straight answer. I wonder if anyone knows.

Except you and people who share your view don't own marriage. No person, group of people, government or religion owns the word and/or aspect of marriage. Marriage has changed over time, there is zero reason it can't continue to change as society does.

Exactly what problems and why exactly would accepting the scripture make them vanish? One of the problems in your line of thinking is that no matter the problems out there that you are thinking about in this regard, there are plenty of people who already follow said scripture and still suffer through what ever problems you refer to. So making some claim that following scripture would magically make them vanish is well to put it in a word, magic.

No matter how much you want to believe, love is not some magical answer for world problems.

Actually, ultimately, love is the only answer for the world's problems, because genuine love demands action to protect others. I'm an advocate against human trafficking, for example. That leads me to financially support women and children recovery programs for people who have suffered the worst imaginable human rights abuses. That's love and it costs me not just money but a lot of hassel from people who don't want me to stick my neck out about such things (believe it or not).

I see a forum full of people with broken thinking about how human sexuality works, so I submit myself to a great deal of abuse in the hopes that at least I've planted a few seeds of hope that there is something better for our world. That is also love, because Sexual Immorality is a scourge, leading to all sorts of terrible things. Like it or not, fornication, adultery, and homosexuality all fall under that heading. There is no legimiate moral framework in existence that doesn't lump them together. Without those practices, bam, there would be no sex trafficking. There would be few or no veneral diseases within a handful of generations. There would be far fewer unplanned preganancies. And if people find it within themselves to take the next step and work things out with their spouses instead of divorcing and remarrying like [pick random name of hollywood figure] then we'd have a lot more mature people in the world.

You said, "there are plenty of people who already follow said scripture and still suffer through what ever problems you refer to."

The reason that bad things still happen to good people (the essence I see of your argument) is because love also demands free will. Without it, you have slavery. Free will demands real consequences. So a good person can be doing everything right, like Job, and still some awful things can happen to them. But my reverence for God's Word has kept me from ever being drunk or stoned. How many beloved actors in the last few years alone have we lost to substance abuse? I strive to be honest with my business dealings. How many of economic issues would be erased if people did that?

Must be getting late in the day. My apologies if my answers aren't top quality, but I hope you get the idea.

I was replying to Meister post that said:

I never understood folks being proud of their race, gender, sex behaviour, taste or petty actions.

Someone has obviously never read the words of Biblical scholar Carrie Underwood, otherwise he would know Jesus always has the wheel.

Not the first time, as soon as the word gay or woman is mentioned in the title, it goes straight to PRSI.

Deuteronomy

5:17 "Thou shalt not kill."

If you forgot that one, perhaps you haven't read your gate for a while.

"6:9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates."

Then I'm not driving.....so reading behind the wheel is ok......awesome!

I fully admit that I get upset when I see other drivers on their cell phones texting. It's super unsafe. But I feel it is completely safe when I do it.

I know. I've a few articles mentioning Tim Being gay moved right to PRSI. I even posted a top 50 people (men and women) list that Tim was in moved to PRSI. Why? Because it was published in a magazine with gay people as some of it's target audience. It was nothing about Tim Cook being gay.

This forum totally does not understand the concept of treating every group of people equally.
