Tim needs to skip the koolaid a few days a week . Of all the social issues he pretends to care about , debt he chooses to ignore?

Something that might be lost on Tim is even those who can afford an iPhone X, simply don't WANT to spend $1000+ on an iPhone.

Financing a phone for as long as a car is insane IMHO, even if it's interest-free. You're almost immediately upside down on the loan from the moment you send your first text message, and then of course the obvious: the upgrade cycle is still much shorter. So the argument of it being just a cup of coffee a day holds no water... much less coffee.
thank you... the question is next year's pricing. Assuming if they go with 5.8 and 6.4 sizes and then turn around and price the 5.8 at $799 people will losing be their minds - so I am thinking like $999 is the new base price

Lol no. This is pure ignorance. Even a consumer level desktop class Coffee Lake i5 is easily over 10 times faster than an A11. And don't even get me started on discrete graphics.

The iPhone 7 plus has a much lower resolution inferior LCD screen.
iP7 Plus screen resolution is already good enough for my eyes and the LCd Screen is just fine to me. Already looks great. Sure, I can tell the X’s screen is better but not better enough to get me to fork out over $1000 for it.

Can I afford one? Sure, I can even afford 2. However, I just don’t want to buy it. My 7 Plus 256GB works just fine and I’m happy with it.

"I think it's important to remember that a large number of people pay for the phone by month," said Cook. "I think you would find you could buy an iPhone X for $33/month. So, if you think about that, that's a few coffees a week -- it's less than a coffee a day at one of these nice coffee places.

LMAO bye-bye partnership with Starbucks lol.

- I only wish.

I like good coffee. I pay that much for the coffee already even though I'm making it at home. No way in hell I'd give it up to finance the X instead. One of those I can live without and coffee isn't it. (Funny enough I'm still not addicted to coffee. I've tried going cold turkey for a month, no side effects. I just love the taste of good, fresh coffee ground a second ago and brewed to perfection. If I ever get addicted I will quit completely :p).

It doesn't matter how small the monthly payment is. You still end up giving up on that whole amount before all the payments are done. You could put the same amount away each month and have a nice vacation instead. You could do a million other things that'd make more sense than paying ~1400e for a _PHONE_. Oh, sorry, forgot it's a bargain in the U.S., only ~$1000.

Its just such a true statement. People complain about spending $1,000 on a portable camera/GPS/PDA/Encyclopedia/weather viewer/media viewer/alarm clock/remote control/activity tracker/gaming device/video recorder/email system - deep breath - and so on . . . . .

That they will frequently keep for 2 years before trading in (and getting $200 back). That is $1.30 per day (without the $200 back on a future trade). If your finances are such that you can't budget $1.30 / day, than are you going to be so much better off with a $500 phone at $0.65 a day. Yay!, you saved 2 quarters a dime and a nickel. And what other device is more intertwined into our lives, both socially and work, than our phones. It is certainly worth the guilt-free investment if that is what you enjoy and value.

To me, Tim has become a Second Hand Car Salesman's / double glazing salesman, Al la 1980s.
We all know the brief, you qualify prospect first to make sure they aren't time wasters, and then 'price condition' to justify overpriced product, next you qualify the affordablity for finance comparing 'coffee to iPhone', next you close with "shall we go ahead".
No surprise Warren Buffet is a Jeff Bezos fan. Sheesh!

True. People are balking at Apple's prices (despite Samsung charging similar price points), and moan about Apple's profits (despite the likes of Starbucks and Nike have even higher margins on their products).

Still it's sold out in every country. People don't care about $1000, I guess. (Add few more $ for AC, cases and screen protectors and taxes).

:checks credit card statement:

Wife spends $75 a month at Starbucks.

Damn. He’s right.

Time to yell at the wife.

Yeah, many years ago I worked at a place that had a fancy coffee shop in the building. I became such a regular, that the barista would have my drink in process as I approached. Not "finished and sitting for a while," not "started it as soon as she saw me," but my timing was so regular, she could start it before I was even within sight, and have it ready the moment I arrived at her counter.

After a couple years, I looked up in Quicken how much I spent at that coffee shop. I was floored. It was more than my car payment. And my rent. :eek:uch:

I was stopping twice a day guaranteed, sometimes 3-4 times a day. At ~$5 each, that was $10-$20 a day. Averaged $300 a month. My car payment was $180, my rent was $300. (Holy hell, do I miss that $300 rent.....) I stopped getting coffee, and bought (got a mortgage for) a house. (Which, sadly, I lost to foreclosure during the dot-com bubble burst of 2001...)

Well you are one of the few still using old fashioned computers. For most people now, their only computer is their iPhone. Or they have have an iPad too.

But yes, if you are happy doing most of your stuff from a laptop or desktop - and you are mainly using your iPhone as a phone - then I concede you don't need to upgrade. But you are an outlier.

So you legit think most people are at work right now, doing their work on a phone? Ok.

It's crazy to still be using wired headphones.
[doublepost=1509728023][/doublepost]

Oh I don't disagree a lot of people have issues with sticking to budgets.

I really hope you’re being sarcastic about wired headphones use.

I have both, but come on,.. it’s not crazy to use either or both as I have done pre ‘courage’. Why would you think it was?

If I can finance an iPhone X at the same rate as a coffee habit, all this tells me is there are people who pay wayyy too much for coffee.
It's a nonsense comparison unless you plan on actually giving up the coffee in order to pay for the phone. Otherwise, it's a $1000 expense you wouldn't otherwise be spending.

The $1000 is for the cellular technology or else you could just buy an iPod.
The extra cost of an X is for the OLED screen and FaceID system. An iPhone 8 has the same CPU, but with an LCD screen and TouchID. And it costs a lot less.

Yes, the cellular technology is a key feature distinguishing an iPhone from an iPod Touch, but there are many other differences that all contribute to the lower price, including a less powerful CPU, less RAM, less storage, smaller battery and a smaller screen.

But the cellular technology is the biggest difference; which was my point. Oled and Face ID are all fine and dandy but they dont come bundled without cellular technology.
