... and left the country more racially divided than when he took office, despite promises of a post-racial society.
Conservatives keep making this claim. What on earth did President Obama do to make the country more racially divided? Was it that he didn't keep the non-white people in their place, and let them get all uppity, wanting to be treated like equals? This country has a lot of racial trouble (that is not a new thing), he just wasn't sweeping it under the rug.

don't want to get into all the politics...just want to say that tim cook meeting with trump and congress and other washington people is good business...and, for shareholders, something that is expected from the ceo.

Tim just delivered a 5400 rpm HDD equipped iMac , its in the background, he is putting the Magic Mouse back in his pocket as the bloke explains why his old mouse is better, he can charge and use it

Some companies have CEO & President or Chairman and CEO. Perhaps Apple should think about that. Bring someone in as CEO to oversee the business from a product standpoint and let Tim Cook do this kind of stuff which clearly suits him and is important and will only become more important these next few years.

probably regarding building factory in US. Cook might be scoping out different states

Don't be silly. He's going through the motions so he can get a deal by saying he'll bring/keep jobs in the US. The precidents were set and now apple wants it's unfair business deal too. Just watch it happen.

I'm sorry but the more Cook gets cozy with Trump and his kids, the less I want to buy any more Apple products.

Can't stand Cook but getting cozy with Trump's a good thing. Why he's talking tech when he seems so clueless about it is a puzzle though.

Surprised that Orrin Hatch has a bunch of idyllic nature paintings and a Native American rug hanging in his office. Talk about a disconnect between decor and policy.

So many idiotic comments that have and add zero value to the article. Perhaps Tim was lobbying for land for a data center in Utah? Who knows. I just hope it results in better things for Apple and/or the tech industry.

Orrin: Tim, is there a quiet place where we can talk about some private stuff without being bothered, quoted, disturbed..?
Tim: Well, we are here @youroffice, so you know best.
Orrin: By the way - what's this nervous wiggling with your right hand ?
Tim: I am feeding my tame tapeworm...
Orrin: OK, anyway. I just replaced my Nokia phone with an Apple device, but I can't get it to work.
Tim: Why's that ? It's the easiest and the safest phone in the world.
Orrin: Well, in your world maybe...
Tim: So what's going wrong ?
Orrin: Look at this. I get this notification message every time I use it. It's so annoying.
Tim: It's an automatic update notification. Every few months you'll get it if a new system software version is available.
Orrin: Well, I don't care. I just need a phone that works. Not a phone constantly updating to remain working. In fact I threw away my iPhone 4 because of this app update craze.
Tim: But the whole concept of a smartphone is something that gets safer and safer as time passes by...
Orrin: So you're implying that the phone is not safe. Otherwise it wouldn't need these constant updates
Tim: But we're constantly improving
Orrin: Well, call me back when you have improved it enough for me to use it.
(Sigh...bunch of pranks running the largest company in the world)
Anyway, as you can see, I collect some historic objects in this room. Would there be an opportunity to get a Mac on my desk ?
Tim: We're out of supply currently. But maybe a 20th anniversary Mac would do ?
Orrin: Great idea. It shouldn't be prehistoric, though - uhh, just trying to adhere to you timescale...
Tim: OK, sorry.
Orrin: Fine Tim. Been a pleasure doing business with one of our greatest business leaders

... Apple plans to continue to focus on key areas like privacy, security, education, human rights, and combating climate change. "Personally, I've never found being on the sideline a successful place to be," he said. "The way that you influence these issues is to be in the arena."...

He did not mention making better products as one of Apples key focuses. I guess that is why the Mac is in its current state of laughably old models being sold as new and obscene pricing.

This is the type of politicking that Tim should be doing. Everything he can to ensure Apple software remains secure.

Probably negotiating the CIA backdoor into OS X and IOS. Expect strange windows like things to happen on your screen in the near future like the self propelled cursor.

So when will all the democrats start emigrating out of the US like they said they would? There is a long list of immigrants waiting for their US citizenships. The sooner people like you leave the US, the better chance for these immigrants, so help them out please.

They've decided to knit Mexican flags for the marchers in Los Angeles screaming at white people that "This is Mexico!"

Yes, it took "The Donald" to discover that Russia is our friend and Mexico is our enemy.

Where did Alaska come from?

Do the Russians send waves of their people to Alaska who then march down the streets of Anchorage waving Russian flags shouting at the Americans that "This is Russia!"?

Tim is not an innovator, but I respect his continued dedication to maintaining Apple's privacy and security standards across their software.

Brazilian born/American citizen, gay atheist here who voted for Trump. Don't generalize buddy. Not all of us non white, minorities are into playing the victim card.

Correct, being a low information voter is sufficient.

Trump played the victim card the entire campaign and you voted for him. Wall on the border? Playing the victim. Halting immigration? Playing the victim. Tariffs? Playing the victim. The only person better at playing the victim than Trump is Putin..."We're the victims of NATO aggression" etc., etc.

Great point and thank you for your perspective from Area 51. Yes, the Russan Czars back in the 1860s were are great bunch of guys to do business with.

Just think, Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, Bush 43 and Obama had all those Nukes pointing in the wrong direction: In Trumpland, they would have had them pointing south instead of east.

This buffoon needs to focus on products! I love how microsoft is flaunting there PC success. I would too if the competition is weak!

If Tim Cook want to focus on privacy, security, education, human rights, and combating climate change, he should run for office. He shouldn't destroy Apple while pursuing his personal goals. Let someone else be CEO.

Hahaha that's brilliant. You guys could get this stuff in even if the subject matter was tomorrow's weather forecast. Impressive stuff :D

Actually it is nothing like that. Trump is in no way involved with Apple. Tim Cook attended a meeting Trump held and has talked to people that have associated with him. That is quite different than buying something because it is made in America or not buying something because of copyright infringement.
Associating with people that don't share the same views as you is a major part of being an adult, be it a business relationship or personal. Associating only with people that have the same views as you builds quite a false view of the world and boycotting anything and anyone that associates with something you don't agree with is childish, in my opinion. Now if Trump is someone that poster or anyone else has an issue with and he sits on the board for Apple or has some position in it where he would be profiting from your purchases, that is a different story. But throwing a fit over business/political conversations from a company that can be impacted greatly by decisions those people can make, is ridiculous.
Not sure why you're lecturing me since I made no judgment regarding Cook, Apple, or Trump. I was simply explaining the possible mentality behind the poster's comment and your assertion about the missed sales not destroying Apple.

They're practicing the "magical" for the next iPod Shuffle reveal.

And to you Trump haters, can it. As the supposed party of tolerance, democrats/liberals are awfully quick to point fingers and say others are *insert semi-sophisticated hate term here*.

Fact is, Trump has done more good for the US of A in his first week as president than Obama did over the last eight years, especially because the latter seemed to have mixed up his friends and enemies decks, given people insurance they can't use because the deductibles are more than down payments on cars, and left the country more racially divided than when he took office, despite promises of a post-racial society.

Do you remember and understand the mess the USA and World was in when Obama took office? Obama did great work and the country's economy recovered far faster and better than Europe. I honestly don't get how folks can't see that. Is it that you don't remember the recession? Or do you just think it really wasn't so bad? I'm honestly curious.

A rare chance for Tim Cook to use his influence to try and liberate these hard nosed republican dinosaurs.
