The King Of Logistics gets Apple inventory costs to zero by shipping every product they make using air planes. Of course those gigantic carbon emissions are "spent" by third party shipping companies so Tim Apple does not have to record them.
Give him credit, he did omit the iPhone charger to shrink the size of the box, have more product per container to cut on shipping costs and force folk to buy additional dongles/charges save the climate!;)

It seems many people don’t seem to understand what climate change is. Not surprising when there are cheap shots to be taken
1) release of greenhouse gas emissions throughout product life cycle. Smaller, lighter, yes even disposable products are better - less materials, less energy to extract and manufacture, manufactured with 0 carbon process targets
2) effective recycling of used up products reduces material extraction and process waste

doesn’t surprise me in the least that complex interactive processes are beyond the thoughts put into the subject by those who really don’t care to begin with

A vast majority of what is driving climate change is China and India., who aren't even required to address their carbon emissions until well past 2030. Even though the US pulled out of the Paris Accords, they had already met the goals for carbon emission reduction. But sure, let's destroy the US economy...

I applaud Apple.

Saying the right words is the first step to doing the right thing.
(And just the sneering people will now call me naive.)

Apple has leadership and tries to use it for good. That's new. Finally, light again!

'A throwaway culture and short-lived products.'
Once again, the Brits have no idea.
During Wintel era, you needed a new huge PC every 2 years, because otherwise the current OS didn't work anymore. Apple clearly does it differently. And thus more resource-friendly and consumer-friendly. The UK Parliament's Environmental Audit Committee didn't get that right.

The people who mock Apple have long since resigned themselves to the victory of dark; worse, they take it for granted and secretly applaud it.
If you don't invent international laws, but let everyone do everything, liberated evil always wins.
Opportunity makes thieves.
On all levels.

Wrong.....deeds are what matter, not words. Apple has one of the most hypocritical CEOs on the face of the earth.

First step: go vegan. The number one cause of environmental damage is animal agriculture.
Step 0: kill yourself*. The number 0 cause of environmental damage is human existence.

Only when all humans are dead can we save the planet for future generations**!

*Disclaimer: please DO NOT harm yourself - this posting is known as sarcasm and is meant for humour only!
I, and presumably one or multiple supreme beings are happy with your existence and wish you well!

Is Tim Cook et al giving up flying private jets? Huge houses? Multiple houses? Big cars? Non replaceable batteries?

If these hypocrites were really as concerned as they said, they'd lead by example.

Ditto for higher tax rates. All these billionaires are legally able to contribute as much as they want to the US Treasury, yet they (Bill Gates, Buffett etc) all set up foundations so that they are not impacted by the higher taxes while everyone else is.

apple is surprised that their airpods are disposables?

So, just marketing.

They produce the costliest disposables on the planet, promote annual upgrade culture and are talking about climate change.
Wanted to chime in a bit on this, don’t know about the validity of most things regarding 100% renewable manuctaring, data centers and what not... but what is this constant talk “disposables”? Are there studies on this?

If I take myself as an anecdotal example, and I’ll repeat myself here once again, I have never ever seen a phone, MacBook, iPad or a like in a garbage can disposed of, ever.

One of my first MacBook Pro 13” 2011 is still alive and well used by a brother of mine, a MacBook Pro 2012 used by a sister of mine, I have and alive and well iMac 2013“ that I will pass on to ANOTHER brother of mine because I just got the 2020 iMac. I have and alive and well 2014 15” MacBook Pro. My first iPhone when I arrived to Canada 9 years ago was an iPhone 4S which I sold (i.e. Not disposed of), got an iPhone 6 which is still alive and well used by an uncle of mine (and I got the iPhone X which I feel is going to last at least a couple of years more). I even still have and use the very first iPad Air because nobody wanted it, for browsing and consuming is still perfect.

Can I render 3D movies on the 2011, 2013 MacBooks/imacs/old-iPadAir and what not? Unlikely, but were they disposed? Because Apple said so or needed impossible repairs? Were rendered literal garbage... far far FAR from it. Heck, the iPad Air display is still as good and as crisp as the day it was bought... I even use it with duet display for extra showing stuff on a floating screen.

So, can someone chime in about the barraged of disposed devices? Maybe some pictures of disposed fields full of iPhones and MacBooks? And if they exist, then why? Why not extend the life of the devices passing it over while they are still working or return them for recycling? Why dispose of them on a garbage can?

If he could lobby to have plastics removed from computers he would. Just so the rest of the industry cost of materials goes up. Even in terms of power efficiency now. The competition would not be able to keep up and maintain speed dominance.
I don’t think Apple is all in on this just to help the environment. They are way ahead of the curve and if the rest of the industry is forced to comply it would crush them while Apple remains intact.

I love how companies decide that making (more) items out of recycled materials is somehow helping the environment. The most helpful thing to do is to not manufacture more crap.

So the most "carbon neutral" thing Apple could do is, well, cease operations and stop producing billions of gadgets every year. :D

Mildly cute comment...
However, the fact that it has the 1st few benefits to Apple in NO WAY detracts from the fact that it also benefits the environment.

It's the consumer that decides to dump their phone for the latest model, not Apple. However, of the 3 iPhones I have had, the two I no longer own were giving to a family member, and that first one was passed on to a friend of hers. The thing about Apple's products is that they hold their value and usefulness long after many of their competitors inferior wares are broken and discarded. You *do*, in fact, get what you pay for, much more often than not. JMO. I applaud Apple's environment initiatives and hope that other large global businesses will follow their *lead*.

They are against Right to Repair and don't believe in all the 3 R's (Reuse, Recycle & Reduce). Sure they recycle but without the Reuse it's not as effective. Making machines repairable, would go a long way to extending the reuse and life of products and reduce waste.

So he was invited to make a green speech and he did so — but geeze/ does anyone even pay attention to it?
Does anyone care about these speeches?
Are all these words spoken to the choir just gobbledygook?
