Um, really? Tim must be out of touch with the viewers. I mean, as the CEO he can't say anything contrary to this, which is, they are getting owned by every other streaming service, including Paramount. I kept Hulu over Apple... enough said.

HBO Max - Killing it for movie lovers.
There are a lot of conflicting analysts reports on market share but a recent study from parrot shows Apple TV had more interest than Paramount plus for Q1. And keep in mind this is just one report and that paramount is not “new” it’s was rebranded from CBS all access.

Also Hulu is the only service I subscribe to all year. I have my free year of Apple TV then I subscribe and then cancel with the other guys.

Just curious what you didn’t like about Ted Lasso. The writing staff is half American and half English. Was it the writing or just it felt too American and Unrelatable? Too each their own though.
It just felt like a sub-par show. Yes, it was heartwarming, and had its funny moments which indeed made me burst out laughing.

I did watch it to completion but it really wasn’t some masterpiece as some make it out to be. It was good, and that’s it. It’s not even bindgeworty, as I watched over the span of two weeks.

To each their own. I can understand how some may not be high on it. But I've been losing sleep the last three nights staying up too late watching Ted Lasso. I often find myself grinning so much that my cheeks hurt. I guess I relate to the eternal optimism, but the mix of British and American humor is really well done. I re-watched Beard saying "Maybe we should do this part outside!" in the curse scene like five times. His inflection was golden.

It's also rich with pop-culture references. That same episode reprises Allen Iverson's epic "Practice" rant from 2002. I was losing my ish when Lasso did that. Granted that's an American reference, but there are tons of great touches like in the series.

“Tiny World” and “Earth at Night” are two of the best series I’ve seen on any streaming service. There is nothing like either one. Entertaining and educational.

What about the name? Is it just me or is "Apple TV" & "Apple TV+" confusing?
With hindsight maybe they should have reserved Apple TV for their streaming service and used something else for that little black set top box.
It’s worse than that. There is Apple TV box. There is AppleTV app and AppleTV+ is a section within that App which you can access only if you subscribe to the service. AppleTV app is available me for a variety of platforms. People often get into the AppleTV app and are frustrated that some of the content is for pay only (like buying or renting movies and TV shows) and others are free for AppleTV+ subscribers.

HBO Max has a ton of content, but boy is it a shadow of the HBO brand.

I love the service and prefer the quality over quantity model. The Apple One bundle makes it a little cheaper too.
The last few episodes of season two of For All Mankind were some of the most tense and exciting TV I've watched in a long time. 🚀👨‍🚀👩‍🚀
Loved it. One of my favorite finales ever. It’s some of the best crafted characters and writing. It can be a bit slow at times but they plant these seeds and it all comes together at the end. To see how far the show and the characters have come in two seasons is great. Bye Bob 🥲

Not nearly as featured as the competitors, but it has grown quite a lot recently.
I already have a few shows in my watch list; I'm just waiting to preorder the new apple TV to dive in.

Right now I am leaning towards renewing when my free subscription is up. There aren't a lot of shows on that I watch but there aren't a lot on Netflix for me either. They are supposed to eventually get the Foundation Series, and as I have said in earlier posts about Apple TV content I recognize that a lot of the shows are good, just not what I am interested in. That goes for Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+ and Netflix. Yes, the others have more content. Amazon Prime is probably safe because I'm rural and I bought Prime for the fast shipping and not the streaming. I had been an Amazon Prime member for a year at least before it was possible for me to stream ANYONES service. Disney+ is safe because I have enjoyed the Star Wars and Marvel series, and more are on their way. I got Hulu when I got Disney, and I didn't get the commercial free version. Someone told me the commercial free actually isn't commercial free, but regardless I haven't seen enough for me to pay for it again once it runs out. Netflix I am also on the fence with. Lots of stuff I used to watch, that has moved to other services. Because that means multiple subscriptions and none of them were can't miss viewing for me I guess I won't re-up Netflix or bother with Peacock or Paramount and whatever other new streamers are available. At 5 or 6 bucks I will see if I like Foundation, and if you noticed my Disney selections you see I like science fiction, and see if I can find a series or two on Apple that I like. If not, eventually I will drop it, but out of the new streaming services Apple and Disney are the ones with new shows that seem to be attracting awards, if not huge numbers yet.

And yes, Apple should have bought Disney around 2006 or 2008 when Disney might have accepted the offer.

Problems with ATV+:

-Goofy name.
-Not enough content.
-Do something different. Too many long-format dramas out there. Maybe some 10-12 minute series content?
-People don't know how to access it.
-AppleTV box should be $79 or $99 to attract more viewers.
-Original content is great, but some blockbuster movies on there would generate buzz.
-A merger with DisneyPlus would be key.

Good on him. Apple TV+ has been exemplary, and I mean that in the strongest possible words. Excellent series, nearly every show has been an entertaining gem. Definitely getting early HBO vibes from TV+. And it's only going to get better as Apple ramps up the output - which I'd say is the only legit knock against the service, and for a brand new platform, with a non-media company behind said platform, I'd say Apple is exceeding expectations.

People who consume streaming content want (demand) to binge and binge hard. It's going to take several years of chipping away making good content until they've got enough food to feed the masses
Let them binge elsewhere. I want quality content, not binge content. Apple should continue being a highly curated platform with only quality series. If I wanted binge, I would look into Hulu or Netflix. I am tired of binge. I am sick of binge. I am worn out with binge. Apple has been a breath of fresh air in that regard.

I felt the same, as a non-english european. Its a cute story with a strong lead character and a light tone, but it just seems very American in a hard to define way. Maybe it plays too much into American sentimentalism towards the UK. Maybe the portrayal of British culture which works to mirror american values (being plain, joviality, friendly, approachable, yet strong willed) in a too myopic way – too many internal US references rather than universal. Or maybe my judgement is colored by recent experiences with Brexit, etc – the quantness of the british are not as funny as it used to be?

it’s not that I am not entertained, it’s just not engaging in a deeper sense, as I think good comedy drama can be.

I agree with everything except the "do something different" idea, and the "merger with Disney+" idea.

I think Apple's content has thusfar been super super unique. A show about alt-history space race? A Horror-sci fi TV show with only minor visuals? an anthology series about heartwarming immigrant stories? There's a lot of variety on TV+.

Second, STAY WELLLL AWAY from Disney+ and the IP/child'fest. Disney+ just runs with more and more family content and old IP. I love the MCU shows and Star Wars, but don't want the baggage of a massive library of children/family/YA content to bog it up. I'll go to Disney+ if I want that. The even worse issue is that Disney has to "Disney'fy" everything - there is no way Disney would allow the romance scenes, language, violence, etc., found on a standard Apple TV+ show. I don't need Disney blurring the edges and softening the excellent writing on Apple originals like they do on Disney+.

Apple TV+ is doing just fine. The content is above average to great in general ( I've loved Ted Lasso, For all Mankind and The Morning Show, while Defending Jacob and Tehran are highly bingeable above-average shows). With time we will see more shows and more seasons and I hope quality will not be compromised. Given how long they've been around I think 5 solid shows is a good enough start.

For a publicly traded company they skip sharing so many numbers!
That being said, I have enjoyed the few shows I have watched on AppleTV+ a lot... compared to quite a few on Netflix that leave a bad taste of what seems to be time wasted more often than not (even if the show was good and entertaining). Can’t properly explain.

3 years ago: Cook declined to provide specific numbers, but he said that HomePod is going "very well" and that Apple feels "really good" about where HomePod is at.

What CEO is going to bag on his own product? Of course he is going to say he feels "really good" about it. Whether his customers agree or not is the literal million dollar question.
