why no one of these corrupted bloggers and mainstream media ever ask Tim why he hasn't updated the MacPro in 4 years and the MacMini in 3 years or lowered the price when every other company is selling updated products ?

People don't give Tim Cook enough credit. He's regularly accused of being too numbers-focused around here. He may not be the singular creative force that Steve was, but it seems pretty clear that he understands how to manage a very large company in a way that allows that creativity to grow. And at Apple's size, that's what you need. I wouldn't want a single "wannabe-Steve" trying to personally invent everything.
Creativity grow? Where? I'm on the edge of believing they've run out of ideas. The whole line (hard-, software and services) is getting crappy and behind. If all others are firing all cilinders, Apple is downsizing to one. But still keeping the same prices as limousines.

What I find interesting is the reference to the best 5K display. This, combined with laptop, iPad,and iPhone also always being hyped for their super fantastic screens, yet Apple is out of the monitor business. To me, the monitor is the most important part of the interface between person and computer. It makes me think the future of Apple is all all-in-one devices.

I could be very wrong though. There are obviously some very good monitors out there to meet specific needs. It just seems odd to bail on monitors, especially when they already have the displays in the iMac.

I wonder if the new keyboards will have touch-id and the touchbar? It seems necessary to maintain consistency across the platform - something they have claimed they wish to maintain.
If Apple was really environment friendly, they would make it possible to use the iMac as a stand alone monitor. Now you're throwing a good monitor with crappy slow computer tech inside away. And every other computer maker can come up with the same or better screens than Apple. Apple doesn't make them, they're using Samsung or LG.

Here's the key part of that article. Indicating how very very little they care about Macintosh. Pretending to care would be a better description. And trust me.... IT SHOWS.

"In another sign that the company has prioritized the iPhone, Apple re-organized its software engineering department so there's no longer a dedicated Mac operating system team."
Funny, to me it seems Apple is losing on both fronts. I don't see breathtaking innovations on iPhones/iPads or iOS. Same for Macs and macOS. Apple has been stagnant for years now. No wonder people start to complain.

Anyway, I am glad that you get what you want out of your Mac, however to my mind nothing in the Mac field has made me want to open my wallet, and ultimately for Apple to continue to justify the Mac they need people to do just that.

So why did you come to an Apple blog? Just to prove something about yourself?

So many times I enter a forum thread on MR these days with positive feelings about the article at hand. Then I see a sea of negativity and whining and decide not to bother. I might as well go and bark at the moon...

Anyway, now I'm here, I'm glad that Tim has made this statement and I look forward to seeing what desktop computers Apple comes up with in the future. I am very happy with my MBP+TB, my iMac 5K and all my other Apple products despite some of their minor flaws. Cue the accusations of being a fanboy etc.

To those who spend all their time complaining unconstructively, you have my sympathies that you are no longer able to enjoy the amazing technology we are lucky enough to have today. Perhaps you are too young to remember how it has evolved from humble beginnings or perhaps you just dislike successful corporations. Whatever the reason, I hope you find happiness somewhere else or perhaps you could start a company and build your own products.

Personally I shall continue to approach the future with optimism and try to embrace the good while forgiving the bad. These products are created by humans and are thus inevitably flawed. That will never change.
I respect your optimism, but a company being anti-consumerism is what brought a ocean of negativity. This isn't about the success of the company. This is about not having utensils to eat our food with.

Other than the specific use case of graphic artists using the Surface as a tablet akin to a Wacom device, what actually is the benefit of a touch screen desktop to the typical desktop user?

A touch screen desktop as an input device is totally impractical.

The specific user you mentioned is the type of person Apple would have courted in the past.

They try to court that user with the iPad Pro.

New desktops are iMacs.

Completely forget for a minute all rumors & speculations: Look at Tim's memo & Read between the lines.

The Cook says iMacs are the best desktops in the world AND he (Apple) only wants to make the best.

"Wants" to make the best is a lie and pure marketing. Because they could very easily make it better (I'm not saying the best) by reducing the price, putting in ssd, upgradable ram, thunderbolt, USB C, making a wireless extended keyboard, more ram, better gpu, better screen, better camera, less bezel, Bluetooth 5. Instead milking the same old hardware and design for years and then suggesting people don't use desktops anymore and are migrating to mobile solutions. Something is wrong here... those same mobile solutions are neglected either

I love how TC keeps on talking about his "roadmap", as if his long-term plans are absolutely inviolate and immutable, and that listening to the demands of his customer base is some sort of deviation from the same. Because, you know, it's not like consumers have anything better to do, or have other options. Brand loyalty is a thing, and it's very powerful, but people can only take being jerked around for so long before they start getting pissed. And boy howdy, the one thing stronger than the love that a good company inspires is the absolute hatred created by that same company's perceived betrayal.

And you know the best way to make a consumer feel like they've been betrayed? Ignore their wants, keep doing only what you want to do, and treat them like they don't matter. Oh, hey - I think I just leaked Tim Cook's roadmap...

They'll only succeed if that iPad Pro is more capable then the product it should replace. As neither is, it's a loss, loss situation and so it shows.

Wouldn't the opening of the 'Mothership' soon have impact on the update schedule?

I would think we will see this across the board with updates and new product intro's....

A yes, removing target display mode was very anti-green. When you got a new iMac, you could still use the old iMac as a secondary display. Now, you just throw the whole thing away!

Target Display Mode is now, and was always a LIE. You had to have a fully operational computer and OS to use it as a monitor ( Courage! ). True Target Display would be like hitting "M" for monitor when it boots. Like when you hit "T" for Target mode to use it as a hard drive. Target mode is a BIOS thing and doesn't require a fully functional computer, like Network Boot.

I'm saying this.... but i fully expect Target Mode to also be removed ( if it hasn't already ). Ive believes the best feature is one that has been REMOVED !! Ive would prefer you just use SIRI so he can remove the space wasting, not thin enough keyboard too.

Its all part of the plan;
In the near future the only "computing" purchase choice to run Mac programs will be A.xx based sans-Intel Apple appliances.

AND, I'm not the only one who interprets Tim's memo to mean only new iMac desktops for 2017:
http://wccftech.com/apple-centric-developer-says-mac-pro-not-likely-get-refreshed/

AKA, as i'm been saying for a while, there will be no Mac Pro refresh.

The MacPro has silently been upgraded and improved upon - 50% boost to read/write speeds
Thunderbolt2 enclosures have dropped in price substantially.
2.5GByte/sec data transfer limit is hard to saturate.
pci-e devices don't benefit in a real-world measurable way w/ more then the 4-lane pci-e bus TB2 provides.
There is some kinda magic voodoo w/ the D700s, at least the ones sold recently - outform both single pascal & maxwell titans.

In calls to vendors, B&H and adorama for example, most nMPs aren't actually in-stock and are 2 months back ordered. If you want what may be the last powerhouse Mac, order a nMP directly from Apple ASAP. There is strong suspicion Apple will stop offering the nMP for sale when the new iMacs & iMac Pro are released early next year - expect those wanting Mac workstation performance to be disappointed. Especially if you already own thunderbolt displays - just plugging those into a nMP they are accepted as 10-bit wide gamut monitors (look in system report and use test gradients + scopes).

Why oh why does Apple refuse to provide customers w/ factual information?! o_O

Well hope project Titan will see the light of day soon then. And I hope Tim Cook will for once be honest to their customers by not letting them invest money into an soon to be extinct eco system.

The CPU and GPU are not mobile or am I mistaken?

They are trying to make the "Desktops" as thin as possible, while controlling heat. Solution? Use mobile components.

Their GPU is mobile for sure.
Their CPU used to be mobile version. Not sure about the latest one.

They were threatened not to ask...or they get blacklisted for future keynotes.

Those keynotes are snooze fests so not hard to loose. Tim Cook is full of contradictions speaking high of environment and soldering/glueing every part together so all goes to waste.

Conspiracy theory: Notice how he said desktop and not Mac? New Desktop running on an ARM chip and iOS confirmed.

Yes I remembered a pretty woman sitting in the audience clapping hands like a zombie. There surely wasn't any dynamics in the audience or something what made them excited.

So why don't they make those existing ancient hardware cheaper? And there's enough room other then CPU to refresh... how about a 5400 rpm hard drive. That is so nineties. It's pure arrogance and ripping off what makes people complain. Tim is ruining our favorite brand by delivering nothing and keeping up those high prices.
I can't speak for Apple here, but from the outside looking in, I'd say it's because component prices haven't come down.

Moore's law ain't what it used to be, and price/performance has leveled off.

As to the peripheral choices, I suspect their product mix will change when they see a shift in demand. In the meantime, they'll sell what people buy. It'll be slower for huge transfers that blow the cache, but the fusion drive does a pretty good job of hiding hard drive latencies, in my experience, and Apple seems to think it's good enough to allow them to run with the cooler drives. Apple offers at least 3 options: HDD, Fusion, SSD. Pick what makes sense for you or add an external unit if you prefer.

I don't see it as arrogance, I see it as system design. 5400 drives aren't only cheaper, they're cooler and quieter. If that works for most of your users, and you can hide the negatives of a slower drive by adding a flash layer in between, that just makes sense.

Too many Cooks said:
He says the current iMac is the best desktop Apple's ever made and its 5K display is the best desktop display in the world.
Tim [strict voice], that's not the current iMac. [overly didactic] That's last years iMac.
There is no current iMac, Tim. [like talking to a plant] Do you understand?
