Apple operating system, App Store , hardware are only on Apple’s devices. So Apple don’t dike other brands. Apple is the only developer of iPhone. No one force developers to create apps for iPhone , and developers don’t have any innate right to be on iPhone. They can be there and create great apps and to make money though Apple’s products and its intellectual property , only if they respect Apple rules and cost. Apple offer the best quality about privacy and security. People now have freedom to choice between Apple’s devices and other brands : I mean between products with different characteristic. If Apple would force to become a some kind of android , then all products would become ugual with no real differences. Apple and their clients don’t want that. And Apple have right to decide about their products. Their products are the most loved on the market by people. So let Apple be Apple! Thanks we have this brand in the world.

"Privacy and Security AND Profits"

Astonishing so many are either stunned, don't take for granted, or like all other corporations that employs thousands of people manufacturing/selling goods and services, Apple also focuses on and is motivated by profits.

I wonder if Sony, Google, Samsung, GM, Home Depot, Whirlpool, Nikon, Netflix, Costco, NBC, etc care about profits? Or perhaps they should be non-profit corporations?

Apple can gate keep and do whatever the hell it wants on its monopoly App Store, I don‘t care.

I want more more options and freedom to choose where else I can get my software from is more important.
other app stores to choose from and ability to purchase and install from elsewhere like an actual computer. I’ll take responsibility of my data when given the right tools.

On one hand, I like how apple is handling the App Store safety and feel reasonable secure while using apps downloaded from the store.

On the other hand, Apple has a “high” MORAL standard and rejected many apps (but legal) to onboard and I like it to change?. But if the rules are finally bent, who will be there to tell me if an app is safe or malicious? Even worse, what if an major app simply choose to withdraw from App Store so they can collect more data without having to comply with the revealing policy? Yes, I mean Meta.

Think they can. Anyway it’s moot because the ruling was apple should be able to collect fees on in app purchases even if from an outside link.

I like Apple, heck I've spent many thousands of pounds with them over the years, but I resent the fact that they should get a cut if I buy a Kindle book and just happen to be using the IOS Kindle app, should Amazon give Microsoft a cut if you're using the desktop Kindle app?

I don't care about what this ? has to say about privacy. Start doing something with China and Russia if you mean it, Tim Apple.

Everything else is a distant second.

For anyone that seeks truth, and have some free time on their hand. My suggestion is to go back and start from investor meetings notes 2016, and then reviewed all the changes they made to App Store since 2016.

You can then make your own judgment whether that is a lie, a spin, or truth.

Privacy never existed, google knows more about you then you do, privacy is non existent
False idea. Privacy is by default. All these companies are making the narrative that made it seem like you don't have any privacy so you don't think it's valuable, and thus you will be more willing to sacrifice it just to get free stuff.

Tim should say:

We made a misstep in thinking we could bring CSAM to the iPhone. The message is clear, users don't want this. It's not our business to police our users. We are very sorry for even thinking we could do this. Even worse, we then proceeded to talk down to our community of users and told them they didn't understand, but they did understand. So we're announcing today that Ned and Maude Flanders are leaving Apple.

P.S. NSA and China can get bent.

"We're Focused on Maintaining Privacy and Security of the App Store"

This is double speak from the ministry of truth (1984) that we will scan your files and share them with 3rd parties.

Here hoping for an open source competitor

Yes. It does not answer the question made. Yet it suggests that somehow increasing predatory practices from Apple after they customers wallets and control over their devices as well as the value partners bring and control of it …. is all down to such a focus.

This kind of garbage talk might work in social systems were people feel constantly insecure and threatened in their life’s … In other words, he is playing with the insecurities of the entire American society to sell more and overthrow competitors.

Hehehehe. It’s a very negative approach … polished by UX.

If only Apple had actually lived these principles as their primary guidance, there would be no problem.

But they've gone for a profit maximization strategy, which has caused all these regulatory issues.

Here's hoping Tim and Apple see the error of their ways, but not holding my breath.

Note: just because they've put profit first does not mean they don't care about privacy and security. It's not an either or world.

I wonder if he really even has himself convinced that it's 'for our protection' and not for the billions of dollars profit margin he's trying to protect. Hmmm really tough call

I know this is mostly about greed, but I have zero interest in other app stores. None. I do appreciate the perceived safety and security of a single company owned and managed App Store.

You can buy Kindle books through the iOS Kindle app? I used to get a message telling me that a Kindle book wasn’t available that way. I’ve purchased all my Kindle books from Amazon’s website through Safari. I haven’t purchased a Kindle book in a while, though, so I haven’t tried using the Kindle app for a purchase. In this case, anyway, you do have another option to buy a Kindle book without giving Apple a cut.

This is why I don’t understand the “Apple has a monopoly“ argument. If Apple somehow owned the patent on the concept of “smartphone,” and all other companies had to make early-2000s-style flip phones, and thus the App Store on iOS on iPhones were the only platform for third-party apps as we know them, then, yeah, I’d agree that Apple has a monopoly. Does Apple care about profit? Heck, yes. Are they 100% consistent in their stance on privacy (e.g., scanning your photos)? No. But does any other company come as close as they do when it comes to protecting your privacy? Not that I’m aware of. If app developers are unhappy with Apple’s policies, they have a choice to stop selling their apps on Apple devices and be Android-only. If enough developers did that, then Apple might decide to change their policies. That’s the free market in action. I’m not happy about everything Apple say and does, but, for me, they’re the best option available.
