Why does it make people so angry that Apple will sell more iPhones than ever?
It is such a childish almost bizarre reaction. Each iphone that Apple launches sells more than the one previous.

Where do you get your numbers from? There is NO WAY that the 5S will outsell the 5, or probably even the 4S

People aren't angry, but we do expect some semblance of truth...

I bet the 5C AND the 5S together will sell a good number, but I still think it will be the first release that does not outsell the previous over the first weekend...

Demand seems quite strong...I went to the Apple Store at Boca Raton Mall here in Florida, and when I arrived at 8:10am, there were already 300-400 ppl in line. Luckily, there's an AT&T corporate store right across from it, and the line there was only 20-25 ppl.

Neither store had much stock of Grey/White, or Gold as I was told, and neither had 16GB devices in abundance, in any instance. In fact, the AT&T Store had NO 16GB devices and no Gold or Slate, just black 32GB or black 64GB. They weren't expecting any other colors for at least a week.

Since I wanted a 32GB black, I was in and out in just over an hour. :D

That Mall is always crazy during new Apple product launches. Then again, in Boca Raton no one would ever be caught without an iPhone.

Got there 15 minutes before they opened and was 7th in line at our local AT&T Store.

This was an upgrade from a 4 with a stuck power button so it will be a nice change.

of course they're sold out, they only made like 100 iphones for the whole world. Need to wait for quarter results, only then you will see the real numbers. Apple is always full of s*** so dont believe what they say.

What dose it matter if each store only had 1 IPhone in stock? If there is 300 people in line waiting to buy it then demand is high.

funny thing, there really isnt that much people in lines lol

"Incredible demand" seems accurate to me

My wife spent the entire morning (about 3.5 hours) getting us two 5s models. We live in suburban New Jersey, where there is a very high population density and many places to buy iPhones. By 9:00 this morning, all Apple stores in our area were out of all silver and gold models, with very few grey ones left. She was able to get one gray one but had to go to another store to get our second one (it's a long story; they had more grey ones at that Apple store, but we had to go somewhere else to be able to use our upgrade on the second phone).

By 10:00, nearly every store was out of everything. She was only able to get the second phone after the manager of the AT+T store where we have our business phone account called her and said he had a single, grey, 32Gb model available; all 16 and 64Gb ones were gone, and no other colors at all. By 12:00, every store around us was out of all AT+T 5s models, as far as I know. I'd call that incredible demand, personally.

As for all of those who feel that there is some sort of market manipulation here, it doesn't do Apple any good to sell out within a few hours and have everyone else who tried to get one disappointed or angry. It seems far more likely to me that they simply didn't anticipate this much of a demand for a mid-cycle, relatively minor upgrade. I certainly don't recall this sort of demand for the 4s when it came out.

So you expect less than 5 million sold? I highly doubt it. The 4S sold twice the amount of the 4 in its first week-end.

Apple marketing does it again, to much stock means you're not planning to your customer.

Not having enough stock makes "incredible demand" headlines, drumming up excitement for more sales.

Newsflash for you: All companies do this.

The gold and white version is awesome~!

Kuo prediction came true then... He said its because the low yield of the fingerprint sensors.

Come on apple, lots people eager with this phone
Even then then, current supply is much better than last year's iPhone 5 launch where wait times reached 4 weeks.

I just got an e-mail from T-Mobile that my order is shipping (White 32GB)!

Anyway, it looks like Apple has a hit on its hands with the gold phone.

We can all speculate what "incredible" means, but not for long. Apple normally announces its first weekend sales, and I suspect they will do the same. We will see what the supply really was. But it seems safe to say, that not a single physical store in the world is going to have an iPhone 5s left to sell by the end of today (unless they are marking up or reselling). So every phone they got out there will probably be sold by the end of the day.

In NYC it was a good 4 weeks or so before the 4S became widely available. They had an in-store reservation system in place after the second day (similar to what they did in Beijing this year) to manage the supply and demand.

I can't stand that "incredible" anymore. It doesn't make a product better but the company less credible... or incredible... wait...

Living in a small town I never expect lines anywhere... so I was surprised to see that I was ~30th in line when I showed up an hour before the AT&T store opened up this morning!

My store only got 40 phones total and all were "Space Gray". They got:

20 16GB
10 32GB
10 64GB

Being ~30th in line they had run out of 16GB (what I wanted) by the time they got to me.... so I went with 32GB (a bit of extra space never hurts!)

I love the Space Gray - and everything else about the phone is awesome! Well done Apple!

Hmmm...maybe I don't remember the demand very much because I didn't buy one; I went from the 4 to the 5 (and now, the 5s). My wife got one, though, and I do recall her having to wait in line. She was able to get it at the first store she went to, though. Did the 4S sell out in New York as quickly as the 5S? In any case, I'm sure that we'll hear the numbers soon enough.

I'm simply amazed how much demand there is for the gold one. It's not my taste and so I would have gone for the Space Grey if white had sold out. When I first heard gold was an option I thought it would be an embarrassment and not sell at all. Shows how much I know about the market

Would you have gone caseless if you had been able to get the gold one?
now those people will get the gold teef to match

The 4S also sold out.

This might be more and faster, or Apple has lower supplies. But consider that the smartphone market is much larger than it was two years ago.

It doesn't matter if Apple anticipates the demand or not. They are limited by the physical capacity of the supply line and manufacturing plants. Those lines can be expanded a bit for the launch period (workers can work harder and 24/7), but in general to be efficient and keep costs low, the whole system must be sized for expected daily production needed out of them over the course of the entire year. So Apple is never going to be able to meet launch day demand. And this is especially the case as the smartphone market gets bigger and bigger.

And keep in mind, while this was a launch in a good number of countries, this wasn't even close to a world wide launch. There are probably 40 million folks in the world as of this morning who would buy an iPhone 5s. There is no way to have that much product available right away.

Why are people here complaining? Do they want the response to NOT be incredible?

if they announce on monday that they sold 6-8million units, will you still complain?
What number is acceptable for you guys?

If you stop and read the posts instead of thinking "OMG! someone is criticising team Apple, I must rush to defend the barricades... go team Apple" like a fanboy version of one of Pavlov's dogs, you'd quickly see that the number people here are after is "I got the one I wanted".

On that note, placed my order online in the UK and got the one I wanted, mostly because I'm happy with 64Gb Black/Space Grey. Not much choice of other case colours to be had so lucky for me really.

I went to the T-Mobile store 20 minutes after they opened (they opened at 8:00am). There were about 15 people there, no rushing or anything like that.
The only problem is that they only had the 16GB of each model, so I ordered a 64GB space gray, which should arrive on Monday (I overnighted it).

I was considering the gold, but I don't like it with white. I would have preferred it in gold and black instead.
The current gold on white looks fancy and elegant, but kinda girlish or kitchenish. Not my style.
