I love my house and have absolutely no regrets about the price paid for it; that’s the fundamental difference.
That’s great, as you actually understand that people can have no regrets about things that cost them a fair bit of cash, as long as they feel it was worth it to them. That means the only question is why you would care about what other people feel is worth it to them.

It’s crazy to think about but the iPhone is only 18 years old. Before that I don’t think we were so attached.

No, it’s not that they tend to do much worse. It’s that they get news coverage. Quite frequently in my area there’s a drunk driver that goes down the wrong side of the highway and gets into a head on killing someone. When’s the last time you heard of a Waymo going down the wrong side of the highway and killing someone? One hit a pole a while back and it made national news.
I was actually thinking about the minor incidents where self-driving goes off script, and people usually just muddle through while just driving even more poorly than usual. The drunk driver would actually be an example of my viewpoint that self-driving would most likely usually do better than the dumb decisions most of us humans make.

However, I’m old and still consider even current AI to just be larger scale pattern matching, so I don’t expect it to deal well with major variations to the norm, but maybe my view would change if I actually rode in a Waymo.

I’d be curious of the actual percentages, as in number of Waymo versus human drivers, as I would expect it to be far less than a hundredth of a percent, and they already do have a few accidents under their belts (as would be expected, though I assume this site would be happy to talk about all of them ;))

I don’t care an iota about the few individuals who defend buying such a crappy product; I care about Apple’s visionless leadership squandering resources on that POS.

If they could somehow get these working for PC users with various flight and racing SIMs, they'd have buyers lining up.

VR simmers spend a LOT of money, and particularly when chasing the best VR quality.

If the M5 version will directly attach to a sim pc and work with iRacing, instant buy from me.

Funny, I feel the same way about the few individuals who constantly complain about a product they aren’t interested in, especially those that think Apple is somehow dedicating all their resources to the AVP, when it is obviously just a technology experiment at the moment. If you don’t like it, then don’t buy it, but the presumption to speak for everyone is just annoying. The tone of the AVP detractors sounds like they asked an AVP out on a date and it rejected them, but they just can’t get over it. If you don’t like a product, just find something you like, rather than belittling people for being interested in something you aren’t.

Price would probably still be prohibitive for me, but I'd be extremely interested.
Since it seems that the AVP does work as a PC VR headset using ALVR, you are sending some really mixed messages on this thread. Are you forgetting the /s, or feel a headset needs wires, or?

I’m just trying to figure out exactly what you are asking for, as you seem to hate the very concept of the AVP, yet ask for a feature that already exists to be added. I get not liking the product, but I don’t understand wanting features added in that case.

But in case this helps you:

This is just how I feel about folks who shout at us small phone (iPhone Mini or smaller) folks and tell us effectively to shut up, go away, give it up, the world has moved on, etc.

Doesn't matter where or when, there are always folks going out of their way to talk down to people who simply love and prefer phones made with "the size of human hands" in mind and really want a return of some option in that class at some point.

This had slipped completely under my radar?

Looks like the wireless system recommended specs are a touch higher (graphics card) than what I recall the wired connection specs were when I was looking into VR headsets in iRacing? I’ll have to grab a new power supply and a 3xxx and give it a try with a client AVP.

Oh, and a WiFi card, been running iRacing on Ethernet forever so never saw a need for WiFi with this build..

Thanks

As the owner of an iPhone 13 mini, I feel your pain, and it is one of the main reasons I find it frustrating that some people think only products they personally desire should ever be made.

If a person likes their house, I would never even consider begrudging them that house because I personally have no need for it, and I honestly don’t understand the viewpoint of anyone that want to crap on other people’s desires. That kind of thinking leads to everyone wearing the same shade of grey. People complain here that Apple doesn’t innovate enough, yet seem to only want them to make products for the lowest common denominator, but time has proven that Apple needs to design products like the Lisa before they get to the Mac, so we should all hope they keep “wasting” money at least trying new product concepts.

Happy to help. It sounds pretty good from the posts I’ve seen, but I haven’t tried it personally and it would be great to get more local feedback about it here, so please let us know how it works for you.

It’ll be a while, I’m in the middle of repairs and upgrades for the real life car for #funwithcars stuff.

imagine being one of the suckers that bought one of these... expensive paper weight. miserable to use. heavy. nasty. smelly. dirty.

just admit it, if you bought one, spent ~$4k (US--even worse for folks outside the US) after taxes & case, you are just turning a blind eye to everything wrong with it. i tried one of those things and felt exhausted after just 30 minutes. it's a terrible consumer product. offers very little value. you would have been better off buying a PS5 and 10 games, and then buy 4 more PS5s to gift to your friends so you can all play together... instead your stuck using some basic desktop apps on this terrible thing. isolated and alone.

you made a mistake. it's ok. apple fooled you. i mean did you see what those frog eyes actually look like to the outside? i mean it's all a joke.
I use it every weekday for work and love it! I’m happy that a company like apple can take risks and push tech forward in such an amazing futuristic way. It’s like the wow factor of the first iPhone.
