I'm kinda surprised Apple doesn't have a more sophisticated call system. When I call my carrier (and some other companies), there's an option to receive a call back when my spot in the queue comes up so you don't have to wait on the phone for however long the wait time is.

90 minutes on hold is ridiculous.
Same here. I've spent a total of 3 hours on hold today with them.

Got a second call back.. Said Jet Black 7+ (which i want) will take 2-3 weeks still. So no reservation for me on opening day. They didn't ask for a backup option initially. Told them would like a regular black as back up and said they will call back within 24hrs. Lets see..

Where are you located? Just a guess but I think these IUP reservations have more to do with location and allocation of in store stock rather than specific apple model

Palo Alto. Wish i could pick up one from the Apple Campus :)

finally got through the initial person, she took some information, laughed and said you're looking for a plus aren't you. She warned me that its over an hour wait for the next dept before she transferred me over. She just checked in with me after about 2 minutes to say we're still waiting, we're gonna be mighty close by the end of this if she keeps checking in like that

I called Saturday morning . . . I must have called too early! Still no phone for me, just a call to say I'd get an update tonight or tomorrow.

Got the call, a black 256GB 7+ will be waiting for me at my local store on Friday. She said show up any time, no appointment needed, and they'll hold it for a week if I can't make it Friday.

So it's worth the effort to call. I'm still wondering when they will reach out to all IUP members though.

That's amazing. Congrats! It's nice that you can go in whenever you want to pick it up.

When did you initially call? Trying to figure out when I'll be hearing about my "case" started on Sunday at 12 PM EST

First rep took only 30 min and did the same thing everybody else has described... but it's been over an hour of hold time to get to the IUP guys... Rep#1 has never checked in on me since transferring.

They're probably on hold with the IUP reps. I only had the rep check twice and once was to confirm my serial number. Good Luck! I'm still waiting for my 1st rep to call after the call dropped. Calling with a second phone just in case.

For those of you successfully getting a spot in the "magic" line, how long did it take to get your email? Its been over an hour and no email. I'm back on hold just incase they took it down wrong.

Just got off the phone, 2 hours total (between the first rep and the IUP rep). Like everyone said, I should receive a call back within 48 hours. And the rep sent me an email with his contact info.

If you mean the email from the IUP rep with their contact info, mine took about an hour. Note this was Sunday around noon local (CDT) and they may be batching processing them now since obviously they are slammed more and more as time goes on. I'm not going to worry about not getting a phone call/resolution until noon Tueaday (48 hours since original call was placed).

As a note, I would definitely have them read back all info like model preference, your store preference, and your email as unfortunately none of these are in a database for them to pull from.

Ah great thanks, so hopefully they are moving through Sunday cases now.
Hopefully...I also feel the need to say this. If people are reading and thinking "oh you got special treatment" if you ignore EVERY problem we had up till now and say "wtf" he is getting his on launch day and I'm not.....I was on the moment the store was up and this was the first time (I have had 7 models of iPhone) that I was unable to secure one on launch day. I had 2 iPads, my iPhone, and my computer up on my tv all refreshing...got my gf's 7 gold, my Apple Watch series 2 ordered delivered on launch day. Even signed her up for IUP....and then the whole mess happened to me while watching the times slip....

On hold for the second rep now. Hopefully it isn't insane. **** I might actually get it on Friday!

73 minutes on the phone. Same as others have posted... they took all my info and preferred phone options, said they will try and locate a phone for me and someone will call me within 2 days. Rep was very appolgetic.

That's pretty much how it went with me. Hoping they'll get it done.

Interesting. My rep is checking in every 2 minutes and prefaced this by saying it was policy and apologized for the frequency since it was going to be a 60 minute wait.

Sorry if i missed this, is this call in for people who didn't get a reservation at all, or does it cover people who didn't get the model they wanted?

Finally off the phone after two hours total. The AUP rep immediately sent me an email with his contact information. Said I would be hearing back from someone on his team within 48 hours.

Just like everyone else I wasn't able to get a reservation so I placed an order and re-enrolled for the program. The guy said that if we get something set up to just cancel the order and then i'll be good to go.

"It's 11:59, and 59 seconds..."

Can Apple play more than 3 songs while on the hold line? Say, I don't know, any song from Apple Music??

Especially infuriating when on the phone 1:30 hours. After 40 minutes I was transferred to some "backup" line that consisted of someone clearly working out of their house with no ability to help. He dumped me back in the queue.

Just posting my experience here: It took 2 hours to get to someone who could take my information. But the person I did get to was very cheerful and sounded hopeful that apple had something in the works. He didnt make any promises, but as with everyone else, said I would be contacted within 48 hours. Crossing my fingers :)

Last week, we reported that the iPhone Upgrade Program caused frustration for some customers attempting to pre-order an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus.

Specifically, some customers enrolled in the program were unable to select the model, carrier, color, or storage capacity they desired, or any iPhone in some cases, due to limited stock seemingly as soon as pre-orders began.Since then, it appears that Apple has acknowledged those concerns and is attempting to help make the situation right for those affected.

Over the weekend, Apple updated its upgrade reservation page with fine print that recommends customers call its support team at 1-800-MY-APPLE and mention the iPhone Upgrade Program. By doing so, the company said a Specialist will help customers find the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus model they want.A number of MacRumors readers that followed through with calls said Apple was very apologetic and is manually collecting information while it works on a solution. Each customer was told they would receive a phone call back within 24-48 hours, but it isn't entirely clear what action Apple plans to take.

MacRumors reader Fikester shared his experience in our discussion forums:Some customers were given the impression that Apple will be prioritizing orders for iPhone Upgrade Program customers, possibly with some in-store stock reserved specifically for upgraders on launch day and possibly afterwards.

MacRumors readers Modernboy and Aaroncbell:Whether those enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Program receive their new iPhones on launch day remains to be seen, but it is clear that Apple is doing what it can to improve the situation. In the meantime, customers can try their luck at Apple retail stores on September 16 on a first come, first served basis.
