Apologies if this is out of context for this thread, but I think this question is likely to be received by the right audience :)

I ordered a T-mobile phone because my AT&T contract-free arrangement apparently meant i was ineligible to buy the phone through the Apple website's AT&T option. I assumed it'd be possible for me to either unlock the phone if it is locked, or I'd just go with T-mobile for a bit.

Have any of you gone through this process before?
Will this be as painless as "activate with t-mobile sim, then switch it out in favour of the AT&T sim"?

Just a reminder in case anybody else has a similar situation:

I am switching over from a Galaxy S4 so I stopped by the AT&T Store today to ask if I'd have to bring in the new phone for activation on Friday and they told me yes because it won't have a SIM since it was sent directly from Apple.

So what she did was she rang up a SIM for me today and all I have to do when I receive the phone is just put it in and activate it either online or via telephone. I'm trying to make sure I have to go nowhere near a store on Friday.

This information is so dead wrong its borderline comical. Whomever told you should be fired. Already common sense should tell you that there is no way Apple is allowing At&t to force thousands if not millions of people to line up at their store on launch day only to get a sim card.

My friend who is a Manager at one of these stores practically laugh at me when I asked him to verify. Like every iPhone in the past, they will all come with its own sim card locked to the phone number that was upgraded with.

Only the person tied to the account using the last 4 social security number can activate it unless you pop in another sim already activated.

Update on my wife's 6s order... I am still seeing "Preparing for Shipment". Looks like it hasn't been shipped yet....

Preparing for Shipment Delivers: 9/25 by Standard Shipping
Not eligible to cancel or return Why?
  • iphone6s-gold-select-2015
    • Qty: 1
    iPhone 6s 128GB Gold (GSM)

It's not eligible to cancel or return because they're already boxing it up and putting on the label. There's no turning back now. You can return it when you get it if you don't want it.

Also, many of us are in PFS status but have phones that have shipped or are getting ready to do so. Check UPS with your billing phone number (no dashes or spaces) as a reference to see if tracking info exists for it.

Shipping info has been populated on the UPS website for my phone. It is shipping via "UPS Next Day Saver."

I wonder if that confirms the theory that some phones won't actually ship until tomorrow or whether it's next day air to the United States, and then ground/whatever the rest of the way.

It's next day air to your selected delivery address.

I was just wondering,

I'm from Philippines and just having a vacation here in Hawaii. I ordered my iphone 6s through apple app and used AT&T as my carrier. I bought it in full price and the contract says no commitment. Does it mean that the phone is unlocked and I can use it when I return to my home country and use other sim?

Thanks for clarifying

No, the phone is not unlocked. You may be able to get it unlocked since you paid full price, but some have said AT&T gave them flak over the phone not ever having been activated on their network.

Wait. So if I bought an unlocked phone, I can't just take my AT&T SIM out of my previous iPhone, put it in the new one and start it up?
You absolutely can. I have been doing this the past few years. I buy the unlocked T-Mobile phone & just swap my AT&T SIM card from the old phone to the new one... Simple as that. Last time I needed a new SIM was the switch to the smaller Nano Sim cards a few years back.

Thank you for answering my question, too ;)

my phone has been charged to my account but it has not shipped yet. it does say it will arrive on the 25th but im wondering how many of you guys that have deliveries on the 25th have had their iphones shipped yet?

Have you read this thread? Plenty have had theirs shipped, but still say preparing for shipment on their order page. Did you check the UPS site and track by reference with your phone number?

Tomorrow night? I am having a problem with the serial number possibly not working anymore. Apple can't help until it's officially shipped. What do I do to resolve my problem?

Until it's officially shipped as per Apple? Or as per UPS/FedEx? If it's Apple, you're stuck until they update their status, which will likely happen some time tomorrow. If it's UPS/FedEx, follow the instructions upthread for finding your tracking info with your billing phone number to see if UPS/FedEx has your package in their system.

If you're having a possible problem, not a definite problem, maybe you just wait to see if you have an actual problem when you get the phone?
