Even though they said that I would personally go on the assumption that one is required. Its a $650 or greater value and I doubt that FedEx will just drop it off without any signature. I wonder if you would call a few more times if you would get different answers.

In addition, Apple's website does say it requires a signature on the order summary page. You can print out a pre signed authorization slip that the carrier can collect and they would leave it at your door. Just print it out from the order summary page and tape it to your door on 9/25 if you want it to be left.

iPhone 6s Plus, Rose Gold, still "preparing for shipment". Location: LA.

Should I be worried that it isn't "shipped" yet?

Just a reminder in case anybody else has a similar situation:

I am switching over from a Galaxy S4 so I stopped by the AT&T Store today to ask if I'd have to bring in the new phone for activation on Friday and they told me yes because it won't have a SIM since it was sent directly from Apple.

So what she did was she rang up a SIM for me today and all I have to do when I receive the phone is just put it in and activate it either online or via telephone. I'm trying to make sure I have to go nowhere near a store on Friday.
So, I work for a corporate AT&T location, and I can tell you that our new policy is that the SIM must be activated in store. I'm curious how she made the exception to this especially since you're supposed to deal with customer care on the phone. They probably won't do it. I'm just trying to forewarn you that it might not work. I truly hope for your sake it does. Just don't want you to have any surprises. The only other way I can think she did this, is if she parked the SIM card. In that case all you'll have to do is call the automated system for activation.

Ugh. This is my first time ordering an iPhone. Didn't know it didn't come with a sim. Is it free to get a sim?

Thanks for the update!!! :)

Whut? My phones ordered from Apple have always had a SIM. I take it out of the box and activate it on the spot.

Go to UPS.com and track by reference... use your phone number as the reference numbers (no spaces or dashes) and it should pop up... Very very few say "Shipped" on apple.com

I'm with you, mine is still being prepared for 9/25
No. You should be able to find a tracking number by reference by now. So chances are that it has shipped or was already in the states.

Nothing to worry about.

hi Aibocyrus - Are you sure about that?
I currently have iphone 5s on contract which was unlocked recently by ATT as contract got over and I am replacing with iphone 6s with full price paid at apple.com site.
Do I have to go to ATT for getting sim or activating it after I receive the phone?

Great to know. Thanks for this. I waited for about two hours last year trying to activate my 6

If they have, and they make me come into the store to activate my phone, that will probably be the last straw.
That's nuts if you can't just activate the phone over the air or with iTunes anymore. I'll be gone too. I personally think this was misinformation. No reason whatsoever for that to have changed.

Have my iPhone 6S+ all set to be picked up from a UPS Customer Care center at 9AM on Friday! So much better than waiting anxiously for the UPS person (who always seems to come in late afternoon). :p

I'm pretty sure. I'm just going off of the updated policy.

Just wanted to share where I am in the hunt today.... Apple store online is still Preparing For Shipment, no notifications yet, but when I login to My UPS website, there is a tracked delivery scheduled for the 25th and it's sitting in Louisville!

Why is Apple not updating me (us?) with this info and I have to find out through my UPS acct online?? Weird Apple... Weird

So, if I already have a SIM card for my previous iPhone.. I can't simply just pop my sim in the one being shipped?

This is actually pretty normal for Apple.

Surely if AT&T is requiring everyone who buys an iPhone 6S from Apple on Friday to come into an AT&T store to activate it, either Apple or AT&T would've put out some kind of press release. Otherwise, there will be thousands of people on Friday wondering why their phone doesn't work.

With only one exception, everyone is in PFS status. It's not an indication that your phone hasn't shipped. You'd know that if you read the last few pages of this thread.
I just received an email the day we had to pre order, after that no longer receive any e-mail and my process has not changed from "waiting process"
