I have a question:

I want my iPhone the day it comes out. If I pre-order the phone to come to my house will it be shipped on release day or will it delivered to my house on release day? Pending shipping companies of course

I've heard that previous years it was shipped and you RECEIVED it on the release day.

Now somebody who did the 3GS pre-order last year fill me in on the question I posted....(about required signatures when you receive a package)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

I have a FAN account and it shows me the priing of the 3GS & 3G, I guess I'm good to go to order via apple.com for home delivery.

mine shows the same thing so I am assuming I can order from apple or att. Really they will both show up the 24th so why does it even matter?

Has anyone pre-ordered to the store before? How does that work? Do you still have to wait in line forever or can you just show up, walk in, and buy?

Probably depends on the store. I bet you can't just walk into the store in New York, but here in Iowa I walked right in around lunch time last year for the 3GS.

I didn't see this answer, so excuse me if it's been discussed, but if I pre-order tomorrow on Apple's site, can I choose to pick it up in the store?

SO if I order from Apple.com tomorrow and have it shipped to my workplace, will Fedex/UPS require that myself and ONLY myself sign? Or can our admin assistant sign for the phone? Anybody experience this with the 3GS last year?

They don't care as long as they capture a electronic signature for proof of delivery.

Can u pre-order without contract?

I don't think you can buy the iPhone 4 without a contract via pre-order. I read somewhere that pre-orders were contract only....

Uhhhh ****... So anyone else able to confirm this?

You will have to wait until tomorrow for the official answer but the way the existing systems work, you put in your information and you are offered the best price available and a 2 year contract is required for Online orders.

Is a new contract with AT&T required?

A new 2-year commitment with AT&T is required when starting your purchase online. Additionally, the Apple Retail Store offers a no-commitment iPhone for the full retail price.

So I know pre-ordering won't be available until Tuesday but I went ahead and did a mock buy and attempted to buy a 3GS from the apple store. They do allow you to keep your unlimited plan on there thank god lol. But I noticed something odd when I look where it shows my current plan it shows my current voice plan as 99.99 when I only have the 69.99 (60.00 with FAN) 700 minute family plan. I'm replacing an existing phone.

Should I be worried at all if it's like that on pre-order day?

Oh man! Same here! I qualify for the phone pricing, but I also show up as a 99.99 plan, when my plan is actually the 69.99 ($60ish billed with FAN discount). WEIRD!? I was really psyched to order from apple too... Anyone have any advice on this? I would hate to agree to a higher contract price inadvertantly

When I tried to do a test run of purchasing an iPhone 3GS on apple.com I was told this:

Do you get a FAN discount on equipment? That's the only reason I can think of why you are getting that error. Apple can't recognize equipment discounts, per AT&T.

Just called Apple support and got the most unhelpful person ever. Doh! I REALLY wanted to order through Apple! Dang...

Anyone know, do we commit to the 2-yr contract and plan pricing when we order or when I activate?

My moms college gives us a discount, but I don't know exactly what it discounts on.

So here's a question. What happens if I pre-order tomorrow for home delivery, and on the 24th, I have someone at home who can sign for it, but I go stand in line at my local retailer to get one on a first come first serve basis on the 24th?

Will the retailer have it in their system that I already pre-ordered to have it shipped to my home and therefore can't sell me one?

If your business pays for your billing, those fan accounts will have to preorder with AT&T. Not all now, just some...

All individual billing accounts can go to apple.com

I have been lurking a while and registered because I ran into this exact issue the other night. I mocked up a 3gs on the ATT website and it had a family plan price of 69.99. When trying the same configuration through apple it came up at 99.99. Ignoring FAN discounts. The issue was with the family plan base price. I contacted Apple's online store. They proceeded to tell me that I could not order a family plan through the apple online store. I kept explaining that it gave me the option, blah blah blah. Finally he says, "yeah but when you get to the end, it tells you, to into the apple store."

So what I got out was, that I could not order a family plan through the online apple store.

FYI, I will be a new customer.

For the 3GS at least, if you pre-ordered from AT&T online, you didn't need a signature, but i believe pre-ordering from Apple.com did require one.

You can still fill out a signature release form with FedEx which would eliminate the requirement for signatures on any packages.

Remember...

FAN discounts are applied after the fact, i.e. in the discounts sections of your bill. Technically as a FAN account, you have a plan that is $69, $99, etc... but you pay far less.

Don't worry where you buy your phone, your plan won't be affected UNLESS, when activating your phone, you choose to change plans.

I am a FAN account holder, and have purchases my iPhones from both Apple and AT&T, and never has my account been affected.

2007 iPhone... Apple Store
2008 iPhone 3G... AT&T Store
2009 iPhone 3GS... Apple Store

My same voice plan and FAN discount has remained since before even owning an iPhone.

This is comforting. In 2008 I had trouble at the Apple store getting the 3G. They asked if I had a business account, and I said no I have a personal account but I do get a discount because of where I work. They said I would have to go to an ATT store. Very frustrating after I spent so long in line. Went to ATT and waited in line for a while, then realized I probably wouldn't get one, so I called and had them remove the discount. Went back to the Apple store and at that point the order was able to be processed.

In 2009, I called a few days before launch and had FAN removed. Then just added it again after I got the phone.

I have not called to remove FAN yet this year, and I don't know if I should. I was able to get a phone reserved through the Apple site and the process did confirm eligibility with ATT, but I just don't want to have trouble when trying to check out on the 24th.

As a follow up, I did not have any trouble yesterday. I did not remove FAN, I did not make any changes to my plan during purchase.
