Okay, sorry. You bolded the whole sentence so...

Glad it works for you. My 2016 MBP continues to be useless for actually typing documents unless I use a magic keyboard.
I might be splitting hairs, but for me it’s not so much useless as it is simply not “enjoyable” or very comfortable for extended periods of time. I, too, have a 2016 MacBook Pro.

The flip side is that I love the Smart Keyboard for my 2015 12.9” iPad Pro, which is also a butterfly mechanism.

Agreed that the Magic Keyboard is still where I end up typing the majority of my documents and such on my MBP.

Re: Smart Keyboard - i love it too, though it’s a little small.

Re: butterfly on MBP: the problem I have is I touch type, around 90-100 WPM. And on my 2016 MBP, I’m sure I hit the “b” key or the “4” key, and yet I watch the screen as I type and the “b” and the “4” don’t show up. Or they show up twice. I have to type much more slowly and constantly make corrections because what I am typing does not end up in the document.

When I use the magic keyboard, this does not happen. Also never happened on my older MBP’s, and never happens on the old 11” MBA I still carry with me when I travel.

It’s like a vending machine that has only an 85% chance of actually giving you your soda when you pay - how long will you continue to feed it coins hoping you might get your coke this time.

Tim Cook’s Friends dig is stupid. You know why services like Disney+ had millions of subscribers right out of the gate? Because of the weath of content, most of it not new. A lot of people came to Netflix because of shows like Friends or The West Wing. AT&T shelled out $425M to get Friends on HBO Max. And who knows what Netflix paid for Seinfeld. I guarantee you Apple has looked at/is looking at acquiring existing media properties (like MGM) that would have content that isn’t new. Does anyone seriously think Apple wouldn‘t include that content on Apple TV+? The service will never be successful (meaning lots of paid subscribers) if it’s just a handful of new content released every year, especially when not all of it is always going to be good.

Cook said that recycled content is "not what Apple TV+ is about." ‌

But "Ghost Writer" *is* recycled content.
No. Don't discuss things you haven't watched please. Ghostwriter 2020 has nothing to do with the old Ghostwriter. In that series, the book characters didn't come to life. In fact, the show wasn't even about reading. It was about teaching kids to write. Totally different concept, unlike a Friends reunion - which is a nostalgia cash grab.

Disney+ had a ton of subscribers because A) there's a built-in fan base that will adore anything they do. B) They are a media company, not a tech company. So the Apple fan-people are fans for Apple hardware, not Apple TV. C) Disney has been at this for decades and has a massive backlog of content. D) Disney has better brand recognition in this area. E) The Apple TV+ access is still confusing - people mix the Apple TV platform with TV+ and think you need a Mac or ATV to watch things.

None of those reasons counsel against Apple's approach of pursuing only fresh and original content. Apple should stay the course and keep putting on new content like they have been.

Also, it's not a "dig" against Friends. Tim Cook is giving the TV+ mission statement to investors. You should understand that this is Apple's stance on all future content, not knocking what the competition is doing.

I just want a non-Pro iPad that has USB-C so I can start hooking up memory cards and drives to it without having an external power source plugged in at the same time without breaking the bank. Leaving Lightning will be the best next thing to happen to iPadOS.

Might be a better approach to put out better content than they have been doing.

Sounds like what you really want is a cheaper iPad Pro.

Cook was asked why Apple didn't make an effort to get the rights to the upcoming Friends reunion show that's going to be on HBO Max when it launches in May 2020. Cook said that recycled content is "not what Apple TV+ is about." Apple TV+ is "about original programming," said Cook. "It doesn't feel right for Apple to just go out and take a rerun."
Otoh, “Come for the shows you love, stay for the shows you’ll love” sounds like a perfectly fine marketing slogan.

Until it’s not and Apple buys some media company with a backlog of content.

My understanding is that with a streaming service like Netflix, original content is aimed at drawing new subscribers. Old content like friends is geared towards retaining them as subscribers (by giving subscribers something to binge on after they have exhausted the original content they signed up to watch).

TV+ is clearly intended to be the hook that gets people using the TV app. If it’s more content you want afterwards, you have the option of subscribing to extra channel or purchasing additional iTunes content to round out your media library.

It doesn’t make sense for Apple to license existing content when their customers could be renting or purchasing that same content themselves (giving Apple a cut of the revenue in the process). Or to put it another way, Apple doesn’t need to do it either because they have ways for subscribers to obtain additional content on their own should they so desire.

It’s not just about maximising your subscriber base, but also about attracting the right kind of subscriber which counts.

Classic Cookism:

STAY TUNED! YES, STAY TUNED! GUARD YOUR LOINS! BE PREPARED! READY? STEADY.. GO!

We are going to keep working on it.

It’s still that bad? I was thinking about moving from my 2017 Air to this. The reviews I’ve seen seem to praise the keyboard — still issues?

'Apple's aim is to "create an Apple product without taking anything from the earth" as part of a closed-loop supply chain, which is why Apple has established robust recycling methods.'

Wow, what an outright lie. Apple have gone out of it's way to make sure that as much as possible of it's laptops end up in landfill due to glueing and soldering as many pieces together as possible, so if one piece dies, it all goes in the trash, instead of simply replacing that one piece. Unbelievable!

All about original programming...

Isn’t Amazing stories being rebooted on AppleTV?

What about Carpool Karaoke?

As has already been pointed out, your two examples aren’t applicable.

The funniest thing is - if Apple WOULD have won the rights to airing a sequel series of Friends... This forum would be unbearable with people saying “Apple can’t come up with its own ideas and content so they just buy old material...” so on and so on.

I was relieved to hear they aren’t planning on just rebirthing old series.

In college, I watched on the order of 2-3x more Dell and HP computers go into the trash. My roommate went through 3 his first year. I no longer use my first Apple laptop, but guess what, I still have it almost 15 years later - and it works. It’s an easy target to claim just because it’s Technology, it ends up in the trash, but Apple products have a way of living long enough lives or even multiple lives with second and third owners. So, don’t get quite so excited.

To quote The Dude... That’s just like your opinion, man.

And because it was pointed out by you or your ilk doesn’t mean it’s not applicable. I really don’t give a rat’s behind what the fanboys on this site think of my opinion.
