double tap the center of the screen is my vote. Center screen pull down already means "search" anyway, so why not put another function there. Works for lefties and righties.

Am I the only one slightly ticked off with the way apps are closed on the X? Feels like a completely unnecessary step to press and hold the app instead of just swiping up.
I think it has to do with the swipe up interface. If Apple left it there, and you swiped up(as you swipe up the app shrinks), how does the phone know what your doing? It might accidentally kill the app.

I personally like how you can’t accidentally shut an app as I’ve done that on my 6S before when I wasn’t paying attention.

I think they mean swipe up on each app in the app switcher to quickly close apps instead of hold them again and have to reach each red "close" circle. I agree 100%.

You don’t need to reach the red close button. Just hold and then you can swipe up. I learned this and it made multitasking a lot nicer.

I have a few flaws (Notification Center from the top being one of them) that have made me consider returning iPhone X. It's a great device, but after using it for a week it doesn't quite feel natural. The thing that kills me the most is FaceID, when it works, it works well. That being said, I wear a CPAP mask so I can't just wake up & unlock my phone with my finger & Touch ID... I have to be somewhat conscious to enter my passcode.

Don't get me started on the cold weather thing either..... happened to me the last two days.

Much like the initial LTE bugs with Series 3, this might be a return until it's the premium device it should be.
Control Center placement is such a unanimous complaint that I’m positive Apple will change it soon. As for the CPAP mask, you get two FID scans during setup. Try putting on the mask for the second scan and see if FID learns that scenario faster.

I live in California, so I haven’t paid much attention to the cold weather bug, but I could’ve sworn I read that it was a know issue that would be resolved in an update.

The center screen pull down requires enough extended contact with the screen to distinguish against false positives. Double tapping the center of the screen risks launching the neighboring app on the first tap.

On the other hand, if Apple simply reversed the Spotlight gesture—swiping up from the center instead of down—that should work fine.

My only ask would be why it is not available on the left side AND the right. Pretty much forces you to use two hands.

Wonder what is coming for the top left swipe-down gesture.

Why not swipe "up" action? While search uses "down" action in the middle of the screen, there's no "up" action in the middle of the screen.

And you would launch Control Center from inside an app like Safari by?
[doublepost=1510553809][/doublepost]The best replacement seems to me to be swipe up from bottom on left/right outside Home Indicator and change swipe down back to being Notifications all the way across the top (though swipe down over notch could be used for something else - multitasker?). That way it would be more like old iPhones and be left and right hand friendly.

Swipe up to home is cool.
Swipe up and 3D Touch should activate control centre IMO but this pane should include the app switcher too, there's plenty of space.

Also another alternative could be to remove widgets/search page and replace it with control centre. A swipe down from near the top could then be where widgets and search is located.

I don't much like the duplication of functionality apple is doing right now, it seems like a stop gap while they work something out.

3D touch VIRTUAL home button on the centre bottom should have been the home gesture from day 1. No learning curve as thats where the home button instinctively is and Apple has a leg up on the competition with 3D touch yet they totally wasted it here.

Control centre should have remained a swipe up as it always was.

Sometimes apple is just dumb, there would have been no learning curve with this implementation and guaranteed they would have received endless praise for making a full screen phone without having to make any real adjustments to the usability that people have been used to for 10 years!

I know some people who won't get an X because they are scared to live without a home button. As easy as the swipe is, it just isnt instinctive to a long time iphone user.

And unrelated but is it just me or is the iphone X 3D touch less meaty and 'clicky' that previous iterations? I dont know how it was on the 7 as I came to the X straight from a 6S+ but the haptic click doesnt feel as pronounced or satisfying or gradual.
[doublepost=1510586357][/doublepost]I wrote an email to Craig Federighi lol

Hi Craig,

I just wanted to reach out and give you some consumer feedback on your implementation choices for the new iPhone X.
Firstly I love the phone, probably more than I thought I would but that doesn't mean it's perfect so i'm going to focus on my two sticking points, the home gesture and control centre.

In my opinion, a 3D touch VIRTUAL home button on the centre bottom should have been the home gesture from day 1. Next to no learning curve as that's where the home button has instinctively always been and Apple has a leg up on the competition with 3D touch yet the failure to implement it here is baffling.

Control centre should have remained a swipe up as it always was. The swipe down from the top right is jarring, unnatural and unreachable without shifting grip on the phone, for a comfort feature it's not comfortable to invoke anymore.

With this solution there would have been no learning curve and guaranteed Apple would have received endless praise for making a full screen phone without having to make any real adjustments to the usability that people have been used to for 10 years.

I know some people who won't get an X because they are scared to live without a home button. As easy as the swipe is, it just isn't instinctive to a long time iPhone user.

I hope Apple can swallow it's pride and implement something like this in future. This implementation pays homage to both the legacy of the iPhone as well as embracing it's assets, 3D touch should not be treated like the ugly duckling of iOS but as the unique and fantastic feature exclusive only to iPhone users that it is.

Thanks for reading my email and thank you for a fantastic product nonetheless.

I like how the setup is right now but the left notch should be customized or trigger the widgets page. I used press the home button and then a another swipe to arrive at the widgets page. I wish there was a faster way to arrive there. If there is I haven't figured it out yet.

Yeah, nah. iPhone user since day one. Within a week I loathe my devices that still has a button.

Pretty sure I said some people who havent yet bought an X for that reason - which doesnt apply to you. Nor am I saying it should have a home button.

I got a response! (attached)

I was referring to the second sentence mainly.

What a great response. Never seen Apple comment on what they have and haven’t prototyped to random customers before!

Yeh fair.

The senior management are quite active actually, i've seen responses from Tim Cook and Jonny Ive on here before but it was quite cool to look down at my phone and see a notification from the Fed!
