Maybe apple should pay a little more for domestic talent?
Wow this news is not placed in the political section. That's new.

Strong vetting procedure and background check is fundamental. But don't forget a part of the reason we are hiring Chinese people is because WE PRODUCE WAY TOO FEW DOMESTIC STEM GRADUATES.

If you want to rid the Chinese of opportunities, simple. Go study in their field, beat them in educational attainment, and apply for jobs at the same places they do – employers will literally fight for you. We hire them because they cannot find comparable American counterparts.

Oh please, depending on where you live(Like California), it's tough even as a black American civil engineering graduate with 4 years of internship experience(I wanted to get more design experience, which is why didn't want to continue working full-time at the company I was interning at), 2 years of college club officer experience, constantly received compliments on my interview skills, passed every test with flying colors for government jobs, etc. After 15+ interviews I still couldn't get an offer. Thankfully, I was fully willing to move out-of-state, so after acing two interviews, I got an offer in Texas.

Jokes on the companies back in California, as I now get paid California money to live a city where a luxury apartment is $1000/month.

I currently work with 4 Indians, and had 1 Chinese summer intern(great dude, although he ended up in an office in my company closer to his home in Georgia). Whats interesting is that in my field, Civil Engineering, suffers down the line because many EITs return to overseas once they get experience. If you're a Civil PE with 5-10 years experience, you can literally get a job anywhere in the US at the moment because there is such a gap of mid-level people.

China is our enemy. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.
What most Americans don't understand about China is that stealing intellectual property, copying products, ect is NOT considered a crime and in most cases is encouraged by their government and laws. It's just part of their culture. Anyone that has worked with a Chinese company will know this.

In fact the idiots are not the Chinese, we are that we let them do it. Connecting this to my precedent post about "reciprocity" we should just protect ourselves making for Chinese nationals the same laws that China has for foreigners nationals.

Heh what version of Apple software has been bug free lately anyways? Let them take what ever “secrets” they have. They’ll end up with a carPod with iOS 13.0 quality. Crashes will take on a new meaning...

We already pay a little more for Apple products. Maybe it's a reasonable expectation for Apple not to take moral shortcuts in the way it chooses its workforce.

To clarify: The communists in China are our enemy.
Until China changes its government, just saying China will do for now. My Chinese friends are not my enemy, they are my friends. But from a foreign policy perspective it's a different story.

This goes on all the time in tech and finance and I am sure other fields too. It wasn’t so long ago a software engineer at one of my previous jobs was convicted of stealing code and we all remember Uber vs Google. Neither were Chinese. I won’t bore people with the other stories of espionage between hedge funds, let’s just say it is a lot and of all skin tones...

Anyway China has been getting better about intellectual property rights. However the trade was does this no favors. For example, we can cut off China’s semiconductor supply at will, they will obviously try to get access to the technology by all means necessary. When survival is in question, ethics goes out the window.

most taiwanese i know hate or speak negatively of mainland china.

And there are those that are Chinese from Taiwan that think negatively of Taiwanese people. It’s Interesting how this hate triangle keeps playing out

When I was an engineer I saw H1B-holders being hired when there were definitely citizens available for the jobs. Don’t know what the situation is today, though.

Wow. Your comment literally makes my head hurt.
Lol, you realize these weren’t Foxconn factory workers, yeah?? You get that this engineer was working at Apple in Cupertino, CA (that’s in the United States!), yeah??
Wtf do you think... he got shipped over here in a box to work for $3/hr?
You think all the workers that don’t look Aryan enough for you get huge wage decreases because they’re not considered “domestic talent”??

I struggle to decide whether your comment is more ignorant or racist. Definitely both though.
Domestic is dog whistle for racist in your little world? Domestic-aryan? Wtf is wrong with you man?

And I think you used literally wrong or need need to go see a doctor.

Here’s a solution: hire Taiwanese, Singaporean and (native) Hongkongers.

Similar or better levels of talent than their mainland Chinese counterparts, well familiar with asian manufacturing and markets, and already respect and value democratic and merit based ideology and corporate culture.

Now you can’t find a billion of em to hire, but on the flipside you won’t have to worry about catching a billion internal thieves either.

I am working in HK currently and the locals here are severely lacking in tech talent. There is barely a whiff of fin tech in arguably the center of finance of Asia. Heck even the finance talents are nearly all imported... Need a reality check.

Stop hiring Chinese nationals. Seriously, I'm amazed that Tim Cook and team are willfully ignorant to the shameless, brazen stealing of Western intellectual property by the Chinese. It's the cultural norm for them.

The Chinese Communist Party is only too happy to exploit this weakness in America's culture of acceptance and non-judgement. Stop being suckers!

Hell, Chinese people even took trips to some historical landmarks in Europe and took a lot of pictures only for them to copy them in their home country. There's just no shame.

This is simply not true. There are so many that are qualified—both whites and non-whites, male and female, in case you want to go there—that are being shunned in favor of foreigners, simply because they're willing to work at lower paying rate/salary.

Guess you’ve never been to the Vegas strip and hung out at fake Vegas or fake Paris? ;-)

This is a pretty new thread and I’m already seeing a lot of worrying, xenophobic stuff. These people should be monitored and they shouldn’t be allowed to evade the trial, but I think that a lot of the anti-Chinese sentiment I am seeing here is borderline bigotry. The Chinese government does subjugate their people and their methods are highly disagreeable and wrong, but I don’t think that the people in this comment thread should twist these regrettable realities of living under Chinese governance into an argument impeding Chinese people from working at Apple.

The Chinese Communist Party appreciates your simplistic, sensitive nature and actively exploits it. While you worry about potentially offending someone, they're stealing everything within reach through tens of thousands of Chinese exchange students and H-1B visa holders.

We are actively enabling a ruthless, communist regime who doesn't share your sensitive nature.

But by all means, worry about the xenophobia and "borderline bigotry" while China points ICBMs at our country.
