This is not specific to the 4S, it's all iPhones.

Clearly, this is a software issue. I had it since Beta 1. Beta 6 fixed it, Beta 7 was bad once again.

my phone seems to also run down fast, not just 4S, also regular iPhone 4.

It's random iPhones, this could be something to do with iOS 5. Thats the only common factor with all the phones suffering from it.

How can it only be "a small number of customers" when all the 4S' run identical software?

Serious question.

Must be PR trying to soften the OMG LIGHTENING ROD IPHONE BREAKING NEWS aspect of it.

They don't technically run on identical software, AFAIK. There are a variety of different iOS builds for each specific device and carrier type (GSM vs. CDMA). Now that the iPhone 4S is a "world phone", they may have just made one build for everything, but I'm fairly sure there are technically still a variety of different builds of iOS5.

woohoo

i am glad my iPhone 4 battery only lasts a day and i think i have a bug with the wifi because if i watch youtube videos on my iPad it stops half way thew the video all the time but works fine on the iPhone :mad::mad:

I'm not too happy that Apple will need few weeks to release the patch. Hopefully the patch 5.0.1 fixed all the battery issue in one shot and will release sooner.

Are you suggesting that every bug in all software affects 100% of customers?

Of course not. Despite being same software, certain behavior depends on certain conditions.

arn

I wasn't suggesting anything, just asking for help on how the same software on all phones behaves differently.

Thanks arn. Makes sense that many variables are at stake. :)

My 4S Has Not Yet

Reached it's first recharge cycle, but it's close. It's early day's as I have only been using it for a couple of day's, but it definitely uses more battery than my 4.

The update will be welcomed by all!

Was your iPhone 4 running iOS5? Because mine is and it loses battery like no other.

To be honest, the battery on my 3GS with 5.0 have been fine. I won't mind it being better if there's room for improvement though.

Mileage

Battery life on my 4S is much, much better than it ever was on my 3GS.

Of course, I also switched from AT&T - where my 3GS was constantly struggling to get a signal - to a 4S on Verizon, which pretty much always has a strong signal unless I'm two stories underground beneath dozens of feet of solid concrete.

Seriously, what does Verizon use to get its signal to penetrate so far into buildings and the ground? Subspace?

Already answered, but I'll elaborate. Everyone has different data on their phone and computers. Add iCloud and syncing of things like contacts and you open yourself up to an exceptionally large range of possible complications, right on down to what a person might have entered into the 'notes' field of a contact. As such, people experience a range of different bugs. I'll bet Apple will be cleaning up bugs associated with iCloud for a while (seems like it is connected to numerous battery complaints), and that there will always be people who continue to have problems due to odd data or habits.

I've got a 4S and I'm not having any real problems. I feel like I'm getting a touch less battery life than I did with my 4, but it is still persisting well beyond a day of regular use, and I certainly don't feel as if I'm having the sort of problems others have described.

This bug will affect people more if you are in areas with really poor cellular/GPS signal throughout the day.

My 4S was draining battery faster than my 3GS was on iOS 5 because of several factors.
1. My 4S is on Telus which has a legacy CDMA network and HSPA+ so my 4S can only use their HSPA+ network as it is registered as an HSPA+ device while my 3GS was on Fido which operated a GSM GPRS and Edge network and 3G HSPA network so when my 3G signal was low, it could fall back onto Edge or GPRS which used less power.

2. My new carrier has a different network and I actually have signal at home whereas my previous carrier did not.

Turning off the Timezone feature stopped the battery drain on my 4S and it has lasted two days so far on a single charge.

Lol @ "small number of customers".

A welcomed update indeed. Installing the seed on my 4S as I type.

Sometimes this thing would go 1.5 days standby, and others would barely make it through the day -- all with similar usage patterns and identical configurations. Yes there are a lot of variables influencing the battery performance, with the only constant being the hardware itself.

Smelled like a software glitch from the start.

Glad Apple is on top of their game!

It's not 'all' software but specific firmware, namely the latest incarnation of iOs. And it's not a every bug but a specific bug. The fact that not all users are affected by it is indeed influenced by certain conditions but that does not mean the bug is not there. It just should not happen. This is Apple, not Microsoft.

Fine on my end

I've got an iPhone 4s. It's my first iPhone but to date I've been pretty happy with the battery life. I have most everything on (location services, email checks every 15 minutes). I can always get through the day listening to music most of the day even with some video. So hopefully the fix comes soon for those with problems but I would side with Apple in that not everyone has an issue.

In other news, Android users suffer battery gate every single day and takes it as "normal".

Lol @ "small number of customers".
It might actually be. I don't know anyone who is having these problems and I'd assumed it is because most of the people who I know with a new 4S aren't really doing anything intricate with it just yet. They're barely even beginning to experiment with iCloud. I've heard a whole range of solutions through which people have temporarily addressed or fixed their battery life issues so it is hard to pinpoint what it might be, but if it is more frequently associated with intricate features like iCloud, it probably is a 'small number of customers'.

Us forum-participating folk aren't very indicative of the whole.
