I literally just got a linkedin ping from AWS (Amazon) for a job, noting that it’s currently WFH, Everyone I know at Meta (Facebook) is WFH, and everyone I know at Google is hybrid. what are you talking about? All those studies were questionaires done by employees. You think these employees will tell you the truth?
We can clearly see that real companies, with real data on their employees, want their employees back. Facebook, Google, Apple are all data-driven companies. If they're asking their employees to return, it's because they have real data that tells them they should.
Ehhhmm, yes, well, 15 or 20 years ago we had MacBooks spontaneously bursting into flames. So perhaps an Apple Car will fit right in with, say, a Tesla? From a 20000000 trillion dollar company folks. And they’re looking to make cars…
Absolutely - I had to do this countless times and for various reasons during my time at Apple.Or you can just set up manually without transferring any data/signing in to iCloud/restoring backups so that you can get into the phone and update (maybe download a profile first if you want to be on the beta train), and then once that is done wipe the device and set up as you would normally, transferring data directly from your old device or restoring a backup. And again, if being on the beta is your MO (as it is mine), you can reinstall the proper profile since a full system wipe erases it.
I prefer this method since you don’t have to be tethered to a computer; all you need is your old device (if transferring its data/eSIM) and a wifi connection.
Read the article again without the extra hyperbole inserted. So I will get my new iPhone tomorrow but can’t usenit because it is impossible to activate it? Tim Cook should be gone by now.
I may be missing something, but isn't activation on an open wifi network exactly what people who pick up their phones in Apple Stores are going to be doing? And I bet something close to 0% of those people will bring a MacBook.Relax. This sounds like a non-issue. From what I’m reading, it sounds like it may impact some users connecting through an open wi-if network. And it goes on to say that if there is an error, that you should select the Mac/PC option — but then return to the previous screen to try wi-fi again. We’ll know more later, so there is no point in creating drama in advance.
Bring a laptop with you if you want to be guaranteed that you can activate at the Apple Store.darn this sucks.. me and the wife planned to pick up in our window at 10 and then walk the mall while it sets up.. now what

I caught that, too... I guess there are people that are activating their phones on public networks???????“Open” wifi networks? Does this mean it’ll be fine at home?
Indeed! Seems logical to me!Wouldn’t it be better to pick up you 14 at the Apple Store and wait til
You get home to activate and set it up, e cause you’re on your own private network? Maybe then you wouldn’t have any activating issues.
That’s what I’m going to try. Just pick it up and leaveIndeed! Seems logical to me!
I was wondering the same thing.“Open” wifi networks? Does this mean it’ll be fine at home?
How many different routers are there, how many different hotspots are there, and how many different versions of firmware are available for each hardware? That is just a start of the variables ... There are different ways each open network works and validates users. You're exaggerating.
There are only a few ways to connect to the internet:
1. WiFi, open or secured
2. Network
3. Connect to a computer
Not hard to test these.
But most likely be fine. Just don't try to activate your phone at Starbucks...So I will get my new iPhone tomorrow but can’t usenit because it is impossible to activate it? Tim Cook should be gone by now.
Think McDonald's, Starbucks, hotels, etc.“Open” wifi networks? Does this mean it’ll be fine at home?
Well they shouldn’t…Not a biggie in my opinion but the Google heads are gonna try and mock Apple.
Have they figured anything out yet?
Apple has confirmed that customers activating new iPhones may encounter an issue where device activation during initial setup doesn't go through on Wi-Fi, saying the problem is "under investigation."

In a memo seen by MacRumors, Apple says that "there is a known issue for iOS 16 that may impact device activations on open Wi-Fi networks." To resolve the issue, Apple says customers should select "Connect to Mac or to a PC with iTunes" in the initial iOS onboarding process when prompted to connect to a Wi-Fi network and then return to the previous screen and try again on Wi-Fi until the activation goes through successfully.
Apple noted in the memo there are no current official fixes and that support staff should "not create a repair [case] for the issue." Unfortunately, the bug is untimely, as customers worldwide begin receiving their iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max pre-orders.
For new iPhone 14 customers, there is an available iOS 16.0.1 update that fixes an issue with activation and migration during setup. If you're facing issues activating your iPhone 14 out of the box, you may need to restore with a Mac or PC to iOS 16.0.1 to fix the bug and fully activate your new iPhone.
In a support document, Apple tells new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro customers that "iMessage and FaceTime might not complete activation" until they've updated their new iPhones to iOS 16.0.1.

You’re joking, right? If this was galaxies or pixels this forum would be losing its sh@t along with a lot of tech media.
This is a totally unacceptable bug and the people who keep saying iOS 16.0.1 fixes this, you still need to get set up to download it ffs. Sheep.
Haha yeah I always laugh at the whole "Tim Cook needs to go" talk. It's not like he's the one making every single software update. All these smart people here suddenly forget how large corporations work the minute something goes wrong.Tim doesn’t know anything about software development or technology. He’s simply an accountant dressed up as a CEO.
If you want to blame anyone for these issues, blame their less than stellar coders.
